Burley and Palace Make Renewed Move for Garvan
Burley and Palace Make Renewed Move for Garvan
Monday, 19th Jul 2010 23:36

Crystal Palace boss George Burley is reported to have made an increased offer of £200,000 for Town midfielder Owen Garvan. The former Blues manager recently had a £100,000 offer turned down by his old club.

Previously, Town were reported to have put a £400,000 on the Irish U21 international’s head, but it is likely that the clubs could come to a compromise, although whether Garvan would favour a move to the south London club remains to be seen.

The Dubliner, who is contracted to the Blues until 2011, is understood to be amongst the eight players manager Roy Keane has made available for transfer.

Burley recently said he felt Garvan would suit his Eagles team: “Owen hasn’t been getting a game and I would like to take him. He’s a good passer of a ball and someone who I feel who can do well for me. He’s my type of player.”

didn't even shine against Histon so can't see him standing out in the Championship next season, bye bye!

I think this could be the reason why so many players are up full sale the owner is in need of cash and really balancing the books.

what ever the offer, Owen Garvan is an indispensable member of the Ipswich side and if he is sold he will be missed dearly. Burley knows what he is doing and like me can spot talent. The money palace are offering us is peaNUTS. and other than Norris and Leadbitter we have no decent replacement CM without Garvan. Garvan gives us a different option in the middle and is someone who can pick a pass and gets his head up.

Can't see us spending too long arguing over the odd hundred thousand. Garvan will be gone by the end of the week, unless he choses to stay and fight for his place.

This is foolishness, mark my words. Without Garvan, we will have no-one in midfield who can get the ball down and pass.

I'm now really worried we might get relegated.

Owen should move to Italy (like Bowditch to Holland...). A year in Serie B and he'd be a star. Passing, passing, not moving, passing...

Gotta love the reasoning, blame Keane for Owen not meeting his early promise. SO what was the excuse when he played for Magiltion? Was it still Keanes fault? I am a neutral as far as RK is concern I support him as manager of Ipswich but if he does not do it this season he is gone and rightly so. But some of you Keane haters are hilarious and blame him for everything wrong with world.....muppets the lot of you.

I rate Burley's judgement over Keane's, even if he has had a couple.

Owne should move on asapo. He has been treated like a a piece of cr@p and owes this club nothing

Getting more and more annoyed that the only transfer stories about the club is about players leaving rather than joining us, that's what three now in the last week? Never been one for getting keane out even through the worse games of last season....... My patience is getting thinner and thinner!

a sad day when our only creative player is sold for a fraction of his true value just because he doesn't run about like a headless chicken. you need a balanced squad and leadbitter and norris are too similar as proven last season by the grinding out 0-0 at home against mediocre opposition. another sad development this pre season.

Garvan has flattered to deceive, and has so often looked one-paced and he gets bullied off the ball too often. You need to build a side round him, but in truth he's not quite good enough for us to do that. Let him go and get someone in who can run, pass, tackle and head.

I don't mind him going as long as there is a replacement of improved quality. Think we need a magilton-esq midfielder who demands the ball from the back four and looks to get a short sharp passing game going! This with now two defenders and Chopra

get the one paced (slow) one good game a season player off our books.
can't tackle, head or break from midfield. imo £100 grand we should rip their hands off.

Owen Garvan is the sort of player that Ipswich would have developed to achieve great things in the past. Sadly we have no one capable of developing players at the club. Just selling them if they have a few bad games and replacing them with inferior players.

wickedblue.... Garvan scored 7 goals the season before Keane took over not bad for a midfielder who apprantly can only play at home ,he has been consistantly one of our players with most assissts even second last year starting only a handful of games .
We cannot fill our team with players who fly into tackles and work hard we need other options ,this will be a big mistake for us but i am sure Garvan will flourish under Burley .The boy is only young and has years left to play we seem to want world beaters by the time they are 20 if not then get rid as they are no good.
Liverpool said Xavi Alonso was one paced but who cares if he passes the ball and creates chances ,they have looked poor since he left .

Best of luck Owen - never quite had the right mixture of qualities. Hope it works out for him with Mr Burley. Odds on to score against us this year.

Clearing the decks...

surco for every goal he scored and created he was probably at fault for 2 that went in

if owens no good, its down to not playing regular games, and playing out of position.watch him playing for ireland under 21s hes the star player most games and he scores some good goals ,so the talents there it just how u use it.burley knows how thats why he wants him.

BLUEKNIGHT85 It's just a shame you did not engage your brain before you got to your computer. The lads talented it would take a fool not to realise that, he needs developing not abusing. I think SURCO posted something, read & learn.

Blueknight Garvan didnt play from the West Brom game till Sheff Weds last season i suppose all the goals we conceded and the fact we didnt win a game were his fault too ?
We are slated on this web page for daring to disagree with Keane decisions who has done nothing for Ipswich so far , but yet feel we can slag off a young player who has given some great performances for Ipswich and tries to play football the way it should be played because he is inconsistant .
What other 22 year old has as much Championship experience ? A good manager would get the best out of him ,which George probably will with a passing side ,we will just write him off because he isnt Steven Gerrard yet .
I hope Connor has a good year or he will be next in the long line for not living up to his potential and get rid of him before he is 20
