Keane Could Make Changes For Reading
Keane Could Make Changes For Reading
Monday, 27th Sep 2010 14:08

Boss Roy Keane says he is considering making changes to his side for Tuesday’s game at Reading (KO 8pm) with a number of unnamed players suffering from knocks from the weekend draw at Scunthorpe.

Keane says he will decide which of those players are fit to play and whether to make any other changes in the next couple of days: “One or two of the boys picked up knocks over the weekend. They were in this morning, we’re in again tomorrow morning before we travel down and we’ll make a decision then on the boys who’ve got knocks. We’ll play it by ear over the next few hours.

“We’ve got good options if I decide to make changes, lads coming back and lads who were on the bench the other day.”

Left-back Shane O’Connor is back in training after his hamstring injury, while midfielder Luciano Civelli will be involved in a reserves friendly next week as he continues his recovery from his multi-ligament knee injury. Alan Quinn remains the only player sidelined long-term with his groin problem.

Keane is continuing to look for two more loan signings but expects nothing to happen this week: “There are no developments whatsoever.”

See what annoys me is people talking about promotion from the play offs and whatever and then you get fans saying oh I'd take a point from that one, and that one. In the royle and burley years we would have been going out to win every game to gain promotion, but sadly I think the chances of promotion under keane is unlikely

Reading tomorrow is a really tough one.
It will be interesting to see who Keane picks and how the team shape looks from the start, flat back 4 or play with full backs? Can Keane turn us in to a 90 minute team, will we start the game with ungency, will Wickham be on the bench, will Hyam start in midfield or will Livermore get a chance?

Lets hope we can get going early and give a full 90 minutes!!
CMON lads, give it 110%!!!

ok my team:-
Fullop

peters Mcually O'Dea Kennedy
Hyam
Norris Leadbitter/ Livermore

Edwards townsend
Prisken or Wickham.

My idea behind this is to have more attack from the back, less of a 'hoof ball' that one gets with four centre backs and the use of our wingers more because clearly in the first half they were not coming into play at all saturday. i would bring Reggie on to replace townsend and then Scotland for his hold up play once we are two in front!!!! Think Leadbitter needs to be 'rested' as hasnt been his best in a while, will do him good to sit it out even if he comes on just after half time.

ChambersM - you really are a pressimistic sod aren't you. Are you honestly saying that under Burley or Royle we wouldn't have taken a draw against a fellow prompotion chasing side (just of the back of a good 3nil win with 10 men).

You seem to post a negative comment on every news story - do you actually have a life away from this board because I can't imagine its a very happy one

I too would be happy with point at this difficult game. It would be great if Town could just for once come out and get on top from the first whistle, not after half-time! I'm still not convinced that Keano has sorted the right back so hope Jamie returns there. If we're going with 451, then Hyam Norris Leadbiiter Edwards plus one other will be supporting Scotland will start, leaving Priskin/Wickham on bench. This was our best combo and worked well until QPR.
The defence has been our saviour and expect the McA/O'D/smith/JP. i hope that jake will coem on as sub depending on state of play.

No, we'd have wanted wins because we knew we were better than them, but now we are not

A point tomorrow and three on saturday IS promotion form
An average of two points per game will get you promoted automatically and more than likely as champions.

Will be a tough game which i think we will sneak by a goal , my team would be
Fulop
Peters ,Mac,Smith,ODea
Edwards,Norris,Livermore,Hyam,Townsend
Wickham
We now have a much stronger bench than for a long time but still believe we need a right back and use Peters as more of an attacking option and competion to Edwards.
And Livermore to take set pieces as ours continue to be poor

Chambers is that why Burley is doing so well with CP?

Doctor_Albran added 16:07 - Sep 27
Chambers there is a difference between wanting a win and expecting one. You are using a ridiculous argument to try and score a point against Roy Keane (nobody who reads your comments regularily would be fooled to the contrary).

Even when Burley was in charge we would have gone to Sheff U and (most fans) would happily have taken a point, as it's a difficult place to get a win.

And imagine if Burley was in charge now, it could be us sitting 4 places off the bottom of the table!!!!

Most successful Championship teams have good strikers, confidence, take no prisioners attitude and and a little luck of course :)
In fairness we have come some way from the shambles that was last season, I must give credit to Keane and the players there.
I hope the players have learned from the Scunny game. The players should realise that no matter what position they are in the league they cant afford slack off, like in the first half. The second half showed them they can play with confidence and create chances.

What Joe Royal did during administration was amazing. He created a solid team with bags of goals in them (Bent & Kuqi). Its funny but I think the administration (terrible time for the club) created a backs to the wall, fear nobody mentality in the players and they really went for it!! We almost made automatic promotion one season and ended comfortably in top 6 a few times.

We have good strikers, confidence and Keane has come across some formations that can create scoring chances. We have most players back from injury and a decent squad. I hope the players go out now and take the games by the scruff of the neck. We are not far off a decent Champ team but if we can consistantly get 110% for 90 minutes from all players we can make top 6 and have a chance.

ChambersM has a point, we shouldnt be happy with a point considering the second half performance. If we played x2 seconds halfs we would have walked the game by 3 or 4 goals. This is the standard we should be setting but Keane know this!! The let the players know that and was quick to make positive changes at half time.
Lets not settle for draws. Lets give them hell from the first minute and blitz them! CMON TOWN!

Do you seriously think Roy Keane preps any team with less than win in mind Chambers!? I think if you pull your head out the sand you might realise what out manager is all about.

As for tomorrow night, i'll take a point as well. Anything more than that would be great. Tough place to go Reading.

Dr Albran, do you think Civelli is ever going to make it now?

IMHO this is best team (4-1-2-3):-

Fulop

Peters/Mac/Smith/O'Dea

Hyam

Norris/Leadbitter

Edward/Wickham/Townsend

Simple team talk:-

1) Run, pass and tackle them off the pitch
2) First player to lump aimless high ball to Connor
will be fined 1 weeks wages

@bluelady....no because he hasn't got as good a team at palace as we did back then. My point is that people are hoping promotion and then saying they'd take 4 point from 4 games (i presume, qpr cardiff scunny and reading) as you would have done. If we are going to go up we definitely need to be beating the scunthorpes and atleast going out to beat our promotion rivals like qpr

Keano will not leave Smith out I am sure as he has been a fantastic success thus far. I would not play Townsend away from home as he is a luxury player and you need workers away from home. I wish we would get a recognised right back and it baffles me that we cannot get one in. It was a mistake leaving Hyam out from the start on Saturday so would def play him.
Fulop
Peters McAuley, Smith, O'Dea
Hyam
Edwards, Livermore, Leadbitter,
Norris
Scotland
Its fun naming a team but will probably be completely different come the day. I like many others think a point will be a good return.

yorksblue added 16:34 - Sep 27
Yeah, I'll take a point, as long as we play from the 1st min whistle, instead of the 46th, unlike Saturday.
Peters must start and Eastman must not be FB.

Back_The_Boss added 16:48 - Sep 27
Wickham has to be dropped. Peters and Luke Hyam have to come in after playing well on saturday. I would take another point, Reading are no mugs.

Doctor_Albran added 16:50 - Sep 27
Bluepeter, it'd be nice if he could, but history suggests that players who suffer multiligament injuries struggle to return to the game at the same level of performance.

A significant injury to one side of the body, can often cause reciprical injuries on the other side as the body over compensates for the weakness, applying strain to the other side.

He'll certainly not be the same player he was, but that's not to say he can't still do a job for us. We all wish him well in his recovery and hope he makes a first team start soon.

P.S.
I'm not a doctor!

Chambers, I would have taken a point from QPR at home because of their form, 3 from Cardiff, 3 from Scunthorpe and 1 from Reading. This doesn't sound too unreasonable. I would have loved 12, I would have backed Ipswich to win each game, however, the reality is that they won't.

Hence the settle for a draw - got nothing to do with the team itself.

Other wise why would managers say, if somebody had offered my 0-0 before the game started I'd have taken it? Some places are just harder to get a result than others.

ChambersM added 17:03 - Sep 27
Precisely, therefore we aren't going to be challenging for promotion like everyone thinks we are

But we are at the moment Chambers, so shut up and enjoy it while it lasts.

Stow tractor boy i disagree townsend must play he is our only player who is capable of making something happen not waiting for it to happen he is a luxury we need all good teams have them tarabt at QPR bellamy at cardiff Nani at utd walcott at arsenal etc etc we need to go out to win games not play not to lose.
so team should be
Fulop
Eastman Mcauley O'dea
Hyam
Edwards Leadbitter Peters
Norris
Wickham Townsend
Subs
Murphy
Livermore
Scotland
Priskin
Kennedy
Lambe
Delanney

This is the team that can get us results on the break away from home with plenty of pace in Edwards, Peters and Townsend and Hyam protecting the defence with three strong centre backs and wing backs.
Anyone agree
