Town Confirm Colback's Return Friday, 15th Oct 2010 16:58
Town have confirmed that Sunderland midfielder Jack Colback has rejoined the Blues on loan, as reported by TWTD overnight. The 20-year-old is back at Portman Road until January.
Colback made 33 starts and eight sub appearances for the Blues while spending 2009/10 on loan at Portman Road, scoring five goals. The former England U20 international made a huge impression during his time in Suffolk, winning the Players’ Player of the Year award and coming third in the Supporters’ Player of the Year voting.
The midfielder or occasional left-back returned to Sunderland for the final game of last season, his Premier League debut against Wolves in which was sent off for two bookable offences.
This year, having served his one-match ban, the Killingworth-born midfielder has been a regular on the Black Cats’ bench but only made it on to the field during the Carling Cup victory over Colchester.
Black Cats boss Steve Bruce says the latest spell will give Colback a chance to play more first team football: "Jack did very well at Ipswich last season and really enjoyed his time there.
"This will give him a great opportunity to return and get some additional first team experience under his belt and we look forward to having him back in the New Year."
Blues boss Roy Keane has been interested in Colback returning for a second spell since as long ago as May : “I’d take Jack back, of course. He’s been voted the Player of the Year by the players and that tells you how highly we all think of him.
“The boy’s still a kid but if there was a chance of Jack coming back here next season, Brucey knows where I stand on that — we’d take him here with open arms.”

People saying we don't need another central midfielder but i see colback more as left mid and left back cover therefore a good signing considering townshend is our only uninjured left midfielder.

Quality signing, great to see him back! Was fantastic last season and a key member of the team that showed playoff form from the day we won our 1st game. More of the same now with a better start might even get top 2! We dont need another striker when we play 1 up top do we? We have Scotland, Wickham and Priskin. 3 quality strikers and 3 for 1 position. We play 5 in midfield so this is where we need cover. Pick 5 from Townsend, Hyam, Edwards, Norris, Leadbitter, Colback and Livermore!! That is some midfield!!! Even if he goes back Jan 4th thats still 16 league games out of him which will leave Hyam, Leadbitter and Norris fresher for a big pus in the final 20 games while other teams are screwed! It also means he gets to help us smash the scum at carrot road! And for those moaning about loanees when you look at our best 18 only 4 are on loan and they wont all start as O'Dea is out injured and Colback and Livermore play in the same position. COYB!

Fantastic loan signing..We all know how good he is and even if it's only until January what a formidable midfield we will have for the next couple of months.. I only hope that the midfield start really chipping in with some goals as I still feel we're one short up front.

Waste of a loan signing! We already have plenty of options in Midfield! Hyam who has been playing well, Norris, Leadbitter and Livermore who impressed vs Leeds. Don't see where he is going to fit in! Townsend is a far better option on the left then Colback. This is not the sort of signing we needed, Where is a new right-back and striker which we need. We need attacking players with pace and flair, not average work man like players! Look forward to seeing a negative formation 2mo, 4-6-0 anyone?

People going on about a right back - our defence is one of the best in the Championship. Only QPR's is significantly better. And strikers - Scotland and Priskin have very good shots-to-goals ratios of 43% and 60% respectively (all competitions). At current rate of progress (goals per appearance), Priskin will have scored 10 and Scotland (the magic) 20 goals in the league by the end of the season. So why not reinforce the midfield with a player who we already know is skilled, enjoys being at ITFC and, moreover, scores goals? Welcome back Jack Colback - here's hoping your second stint is as rewarding as the first.

Get the feeling we've signed him because we couldn't sign anyone else, because we don't need him, fair enough quality player but not needed? And to the people saying he can play right back, please don't be stupid....or if you were joking, keep them coming! We do need a right back, peters is wasted there he is a midfielder, brown is still young and eastman I'm sorry is no where near good enough to play there, maybe in a few years at centre back but no full back, he's awful.

Tractorgirl83 what planet are you on? Yes we could do with right back cover but there are many worse than JP - bruce for starters! But your biggest mistake is calling colback am average workman like player - even the anti Keane gang on here can see he is quality! Do you actually go? Welcome jack, adds some left side support and keeps the cm's on their toes! Personally I think he will sign for us in the not too distant future!

The amount of negative comments on here is unbelievable! This guy is a great talent and was our players player of the year last year! On top of that, all the people moaning that we have 5 midfielders to fit 3 positions are ridiculous! We have Norris, Leadbitter, Hyam, Livermore and Colback plus youngsters in Clark and Hourihane (not counting Lambe since he's a winger like Edwards and Townsend). In comparison, QPR have 8 (yes 8!) senior midfielders in the shape of Derry, Leigertwood, Taarabt, Buzsaky, Rowlands, Cook, Ephraim and Faurlin. on top of this they have 3 more young midfielders at similar stages of development to Clark and Hourihane. COME ON! They have 3 more senoirs all on permanent deals compared to our 5 with 2 of them being loans and they have 1 more youngster and if your being picky you could classify 3 of our 5 in Hyam, Livermore and Colback as youngsters! Do you hear QPR fans moaning they have too many midfielders? NO! Come on guys get a grip and get behind all the lads tomorrow! 2-0 Town, Townsend and Scotland! COYB!

Apologies I forgot Quinn and Healey but realistically they wont get in the team and even with them and Colback we have 7 which is still less that QPR'S 8!

I seem to remember at the start of the season 99% of the forum wanted Jack back? Nothing has changed in my opinion, if anything Leadbetter has missed his ginger haired mate. Great piece of business, the lad is happy to be here, will give his all, we cannot ask anymore than that. Enough said :-)

Why thanks keanish! I'm a bit of a footie addict and just like to say it how I see it, not rose tinted glsassed but equally not moaning for the sake of it. We may not desperately need jack but would anyone with half a brain turn him away? Players player of the year indicates he is one of those dressing room characters keane believes can help to gell a team! I fully expext jc to play some part today and look forward tro that with relish!

Colback is a good player but I think we should of got Jason Roberts from Blackburn a natural predator would be fantastic plus a right back and our team will be complete team for today got to play 2 up top at home to these sort of teams Fulop Peters Mcaulay Smith Kennedy Edwards Livermore Leadbitter Townsend Scotland Priskin Subs Wickham Colback Delanney Norris Murphy Lambe Hyam

Colback is a great signing, those questioning it really have a screw loose. I'm not going to speculate which team gets picked today, lets be honest, Keane always throws in a surprise or two! Either way, from that list you've written there Ipswich24 for the first time in many a year i have complete confidence in the strength and depth in the squad now. Just look at that bench!
