Fallon Signs on Loan Thursday, 25th Nov 2010 12:44
Town have confirmed that striker Rory Fallon has signed on loan from Plymouth Argyle with a view to a permanent switch. The 28-year-old, a New Zealand team-mate of Blues defender Tommy Smith, with be at Portman Road until January 22nd.
The frontman will train with the squad on Friday and could make his Town debut when the Blues travel to Norwich for Sunday's East Anglian derby.
Argyle boss Peter Reid says the move could become a full-time switch: "I've decided to let Rory go out with a view to a permanent move when the transfer window kicks in in January.
"We'll be actively seeking a replacement but I was pleased with the way Rory Patterson has been playing and I've got Joe Mason as well.
"It's a great opportunity for the boy and I'm sure he'll thrive in the Championship environment."
Fallon started in youth football with North Shore United in his home country before joining Barnsley as a 17-year-old. The 6ft 3in tall frontman has subsequently played for Shrewsbury (loan), Swindon, Yeovil (loan) and Swansea before signing for the Pilgrims for £300,000 in January 2007.
The one-time England U16, U17, U18, U19 and U20 international target man - he reverted to playing for New Zealand in 2009 - has scored 19 goals in 84 starts and 57 sub appearances for Argyle.
For New Zealand he has scored three goals in 10 games and played in all three matches at the World Cup in South Africa, having netted the goal which secured qualification via a 1-0 play-off second leg victory over Bahrain.

I fear for the club tbh there is obviously no more money in the kitty and let's face it we need at least 2 or 3 quality permanent signings before we get anywhere in a very poor league
Although I'm less than thrilled with this signing, it is important to remember that the main window for signings is closed. Therefore, in answer to some on here, the ONLY option is a loan signing.
As the loan window closes today, I would much prefer to see us bolster the attack - as there are a lot of games coming up. Who knows this guy may be rubbish - but yet he may score against Norwich and become an instant hero.
At the end of the day, he wanted to come, we need another option up front, & he'll be wearing a Town shirt, so lets at least give the bloke a chance, heaven knows we gave Priskin time!!!!
Admittedly this doesn't look good on paper. But reading what someone said about Luke Varney going to Blackpool hit the nail on the head. Strange transfer but has worked, i guess nobody thought Mackie would be great at QPR but he has scored for fun.. We will see. Can only be positive.. time will tell!! COYB!!
Fatboy, if Keane plays two up top then it might (BIG might) prove to be an OK purchase but still don't see this as the difference in getting us promoted.
And why if Keane is now going to start playing 2 up top isn't he going to give Tamas & Connor a proper chance. Tamas has looked a new player this year - on form, scores for his country - then gets dropped at Hull. And Connor must be wanting out soon if he is being put down the pecking order by the likes of Fallon without being given more than a couple of late sub appearances!!!
leadbitter6 - I will cheer on Fallon as I do any player who wears the Blue & represents our club (as bad as it looks signing a L1 player where others around us are getting proven quality).
What frustrates me the absolute most about this is the fact the strikers we have (under contract) haven't been given a proper chance due to Keanes tactics - 1 up top. Now another Loanee will take their place, move them down the pecking order, dent confidence & only be a short-term, panic solution. Why will it take a Loan to change to 4-4-2....
We have way too much reliance on loans now (remember the Budgies 2 seasons ago), players can't gel & do they really care about ITFC. And Keane can't keep using the excuse of having a threadbare, inexperienced, young squad. He decided to clear the deadwood (most of it rightly so IMO), had millions to spend on players above 95% of Championship Teams and hasn't replaced or delivered.
this is great news we can finally hold the ball up up top, admision of failure again for the other (cough) strikers though. He is a very good player, this togther with the rightback news, gives me the first positive feeling about the Derby since september! Play Wickham and Fallon togeher like Woods and Fallon in WC. Woods and Connor are similiar. Now Bring on the puss look-a-likes! arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrghhhhhhhhhhhh
Can't believe Ipswich are signing this complete donkey. Living down here in the Devon he's one of the total dross on high wages that Argyle have been trying to get rid off. Saw him play against Exeter & he's slower than a cart horse. If we had to get a forward from Argyle then Wright Phillips would have been the best signing, another player Argyle are trying to offload because of their money problems. Plymouth's board must think christmas has come early by being able to off load Fallon.
Good heavens this guy hasn't even kicked a ball for us yet and he is already been written off! But I'm not really surprised, with all the changes that have happened to this club over the past 10 years or so the most startling one for me is the attitude of people who go to the matches, I'm not going to refer to them as supporters because they are not as i understand the deffinition, I realise it's the minority that post on here that are so negative but the Barnsley game showed me that the problem is widespread, regardless of how town have played and I was a season ticket holder in our lowest ever points tally season in the premier league, I have never been put off coming back to portman road, iv never booed a performance, but I was disgusted at that show by the atendee's that day, I remember the chant of "we'll support you even more!" when we were going through difficult times. I'm not aiming this at the supporters of this great club but those that are letting down the club and once proud reputation for having such a great following, I think keane's damnation of fans in recent weeks has been kind to them! I would rather see 10,000 turn up and cheer than have an extra 7000 grumbling moaning booing getting on the players backs! But back to rory, I wish him and every new player well and I hope he gives 100% for the badge, that's all I ask of any new player.
Looks like a desperate move by a desperate manager. If it means Evans now cashing in on Wickham,oh dear!Hope it works out well for Town but most of Keanes moves of late seem to be to the detriment of ITFC.Need a skilful forward looking classy midfielder like Geo or Kieran as far too pedestrian in midfield.
Finally I have to believe that keane has lost his marbles. According to a Plymouth fan who is a good friend of mine & whose football opinion I respect, this guy is totally useless. What on earth has inspired Keane to sign him. He may even eclipse Lee Martin as RK's worst ever signing. I sincerely hope I'm wrong
Can't believe how negative some of these comments are. Matt Holland and David Jonson was plucked from the lower leagues (Bournemouth and Bury) are they turned out to be right little gems for our club. Good luck Rory glad to have you here. COYB!
So when RK goes to a lower division club for a player it is all wrong , ( but lots of you were telling him to do that ! ) and he is not good enough for us , you should make your minds up about what you want and think ! Some of you are so silly in your thinking because of dislike for RK ! Give the guy a chance to get it right and do us proud with the good players he is assembling !
meekreech, there is nothing wrong in signing a young player with potential from a lower league club, Mariner being a good example, but have you ever seen Fallon play? Why are Plymouth supporters so happy at the news?
Joking aside although I would not complain about Paul Mariner being out manager. Check back at posts from before the season and people were bemoaning why cant Keane got into the lower leagues and find us another Mariner/Holland/Johnson now people complain that he has done that. At the end of the day I am no longer a fan of Keane BUT while he is Manager of ITFC I will cheer his side and support everyone one in the blue shirt.(OK I once cheered when we conceded it was against Avenir Beggen we were 5-0 up and the whole of Portman road erupted into a round of The postie is on the score sheet poor guy though his goal had been disallowed not used to 17000 people cheeering when he scored)..
i have been down on Keane lately, but even i cannot believe some 'fans' my uncles grannies sisters long lost niece said this guy is now good...... For goodness sake guys let him kick a ball first eh? He is a big tall guy, we have really missed the arial threat, particularly with our long balls (not that i agree with this style of play)... If he is good in the air, can header, hold the ball up and perhaps pass to one of our natural poachers like Prisken or Scotland then that will do me thank you very much! We also havent signed him guys, its a 6 week loan, with a view to signing if he is any good, if he is rubbish we have lost nothing and he can pack his bag and toddle of back down South. People have moaned about going to higher divisions, we have gone to a lower division and still people moan, what miserable negative lives some people live!!! As for the right back, think its very ironic a few weeks back we didnt need one, now Keane has an 'excuse' with Tom being injured he has swallowed his pride, personally i dont care how or why, i just cant wait to see a natural (hopefully attacking) right back. Oh and whoever said this guy was a natural centre back, he is five foot eight for goodness sake!!!!!
