Fab Gives Zuiverloon Lesson in Town History
Fab Gives Zuiverloon Lesson in Town History
Thursday, 9th Dec 2010 08:00

Loan signing Gianni Zuiverloon says he has been taking lessons on Town’s Dutch history from fellow Rotterdammer Fabian Wilnis. The West Brom man’s Portman Road stay is unlikely to be anything like as lengthy Wilnis's as he says he’s eyeing a permanent move to another Premier League club in January.

Zuiverloon told Voetbal International that Wilnis has been instructing him on the Town exploits of Arnold Muhren and Frans Thijssen, as well as himself and Martijn Reuser: “For the time being I concentrate on Ipswich Town, a club with a nice tradition and a special history with players from the Netherlands. Fabian Wilnis gave me a small lesson in history last week!”

The 23-year-old hopes his month with Town will help him to win a deal with another top flight club after failing to make a league appearance for the Baggies this season: “My ambition is to play for a club in the Premier League. Last year I played in the Championship with West Brom. That’s not what I like.

“Every match is very fast. Running, rushing and a lack of tactics. In the Premier League there is more time to receive the ball and the football itself is more important.

“I’m short on match action and I want to be fit when a club is interested in me in January. That was the main reason for me choosing to come to Ipswich Town.”

Shortly after his signing, manager Roy Keane said he had no issue with players using their loan spells to impress other interested parties: “I think he went to West Brom for £3.2 million and put it this way, I don’t think we’d pay that for a full-back. I don’t think we’d pay that for a striker at the moment.

“I spoke to the boy, he’s very positive, he knows he can come in and get some games and it might help him to get a move, not to us but to someone else in January.

“Players will use loans as an opportunity to help themselves, and I see no problem with that. If we can help him and he helps us, then we’ll all be happy.”

Zuiverloon's month at Portman Road is due to end on January 4th.

Meanwhile, the Blues, Coventry, Scunthorpe, Charlton and Southampton are claimed to be watching 27-year-old Leyton Orient striker Alex Revell. The former Cambridge man would appear to be an unlikely Town target given the recent loan signing of Rory Fallon from Plymouth.

So far mate I wouldnt pay 100k for you so you'd better pull your finger out if you want a move to a premier league club.

I love it when people slag players off. He's a premiership player and a natural a rb, give the boy time to settle for gods sake, he's played two games and been thrown in at the deep end for the norwich game. I'm pretty sure ild rather a premiership player at rb than a youth team centre half there. So called fans PHA! Man up and support the team instead of thinking your the next manager...

OOH. You're a bit touchy for a fairly bland comment. You'd better not read the message board cos there's a thread on there saying the same thing.

And it's you're the next manager.

It may be his lack of match fitness, but so far he has been very poor. His mistakes against Norwich were obvious, and he was poor again against Swansea.

Maybe Roy should stick to recruiting from Sunderland after all, if his other ideas are this guy and Fallon...

If he is not wanting to stay then put Peters in and give him the season at getting used to playing right back with mistakes along the way . We need a settled back four playing regularly together who will learn and benefit the club ,not help some players career.
We were performing a lot better at the start of the season with our own before Keane brought in the loanees , how many have actually improved the team
Zuverloon - No better than Peters
O'Dea - No better than O'Connor
Livermore - No Better than any of our central midfielders
Colback - Hasnt been played in his position
Fallon - Looks out of his class ,still early days
Townsend - Been very impressive but rarely features ?
Other teams loanees are making impact straight away without this bedding in time ,why is that ?

Morning GITS! (copyright B Smallpiece Den Haag). This bloke has exactly the right attitude for the present ITFC regime. He is self-serving, plays poorly, has no interest in the club or its fans and is merely using it as a springboard to achieve better elsewhere. How many others in the set-up does this apply to? From the evidence provided by Gianni on the pitch to date, I fear his high expectations are unlikely to be met. FORK! POMS! COYB!

Alex Revell? (Leyton Orient). Thats the 3rd time he's been linked with Town this week. As they say, no smoke without fire.
Willing to give the guy a chance, but when Norwich are signing Lansbury its very frustrating...
Would rather have QUALITY of players rather than QUANTITY.
Not great for Leyton Orient, don't know if he will handle it in the Championship.
As for Zuiverloon, its clear where his priorities lie. Classic quote about "lack of tactics". Could do with more stable players who are willing to die to wear the shirt...

Jesus wept, some of the comments here are crimgeworthy. You can always spot a clueless plank because they think picking up others on minor grammatical errors is a good comeback!

Good luck to Gianni, he's looked decent so far all things considered and a few throwaway comments are nothing to get excited about.

Seems to me a bit like Liam Rosenior having a high opinion of himself;but Keane seems to have changed his mind about loan players from his remarks at AGM.Clearly money is tight but Zuverloon is proof that loan players are best just in an emergency, and he will only stay if nobody else comes in for him;so what have we gained and why when Peters and O'Connor were given the numbers 2&3,why haven't they been played regularly?Manager smooth talked the AGM just as he does the Owner and CEO as Mr Clegg said"they have full confidence in Roy";so thats ok then we can all sit back and wait for Div 1 football next season when'Roy'can try and get us promoted to the Championship!!!

Any idea what Fabian's upto these days?..has he gone into coaching at all?..always liked his attitude, seemed like a top bloke with a real love for this club..shame we haven't got someone with his personality on the coaching staff..i'm sure he could do no worse than the clown in charge at the moment.

keane plays a team for every oppositions style because his team has none.if we were playing good football we wouldn't have to change lineup every week the oppositions would be the ones trying to work out how to contain us. but that will never happen under this bloke.....sack him

Spot on bobble....

Wright,
Wilnis,Bramble,Venus,Hreidarsson,
Scowcroft,Magilton,Holland,Reuser,
Stewart,Johnson:

..the last "truly great" team we had at ipswich..that team never needed changing week after week..we just went out there and let the opposition worry about us...like someone said a few weeks ago, keane just seems to pick his line-up out of a hat...anyone of us could do that.

No interest in helping us at all then!! you just feather your own nest pal, cock. Another player who doesn't want to be here, these "have beens" have no idea what a privilage it should be putting on a "Town shirt", but then it doesn't surprise me if I'm honest, we have a manager that has brought this culture about, I would much rather we use one of our own players than another bloody loan signing.

Feel really down about the situation at our club..... we are miles away from ever returning to the Prem.

“I'm short on match action and I want to be fit when a club is interested in me in January. That was the main reason for me choosing to come to Ipswich Town.”

So when Roy Keane sat down David Wright (a committed Ipswich man and a solid defender at right-back) in the summer and told him he wanted to look in a new direction and so was letting David go, this is what he had in mind?! Keane said Peters is not a full-back but they "persevered" with him earlier in the season. Why do we not have a proper right-back at Ipswich Town Football Club?!
