Townsend to Return to Tottenham
Townsend to Return to Tottenham
Saturday, 18th Dec 2010 20:43

Town boss Roy Keane has revealed that on-loan winger Andros Townsend is set to return to Tottenham. The 19-year-old was due to remain with the Blues until the end of the season.

Keane said: “Andros is going back to Tottenham. I’ve been speaking to Andros for the last few days and I’ve been in touch with [Spurs assistant first team coach] Tim Sherwood.

“It’s all agreed with Tottenham that he’ll go back because he wasn’t getting the minutes here.”

Townsend made 14 starts and two sub appearances for the Blues, scoring his only goal in the 3-1 defeat to Swansea earlier this month.

This lad was never given a real chance. Everytime I've seen him play he has been a class above, one of the few players we've got that has the ability and confidence to take a man on and create something out of nothing.

There is no doubt Keane has had a fallout with him. He should be playing his best team each week however he seems too scared to drop his favourite players like leadbitter when they're not on form and so players like colback are playing out of position.

On a positive note, heres an opportunity for o'connor/peters to stake their claim for a place in the team; two players who I feel are unlucky not to be regulars.

To some of these posts in Townsends defence, i can count numerous occasions where he's beaten players and put decent balls into the box only for there to be one at best blue shirt i there. Also to the point about loan players, while it is better to have your own, if your own aren't as good then what's the issue.

Good performance from O'Connor today though. Looking forward to seeing him get more game time which we've all been saying all season. Thought Fallon was a good foil today for Scotland although he should have scored.

Pity because I thought he was decent, but if he's going can he take Livermore, Fallon and Colback with him, then sell Priskin and use the cash to get a decent midfielder and forward.

Tractorboy fallon deserves a chance set up today and no world beater but just may be the link that's been missing to bring Scotland into the game ? Scotland now on Target to hit sixteen or seventeen for the season. The two work well together. As for prisken a very unlucky guy mom for so many games yet not even on bench not good for a confidence player!!!!

Shut your trap bluelady! This story amazes me, or does it? Roy Keane I suppose doesn't amaze me anymore, I'm used to his rediculous and bizarre decisions. This is crazy, be has in-fact changed quite a few games,l Leeds at home, got Bruce sent off basically, awesome in one of his first games bristol at home I think it was, swansea the other week (i know we lost) but scored a goal and played generally well. To a lot of people saying he hasn't done ENOUGH, maybe not....but the question is - who do we have who is better? Ten times better than Edwards, I'm fed up with him to be honest, in truth he doesn't have much pace, can't beat a player. Colback?! Central midfielder and is always in-field not at all a winger. Oconnor was good today, consistent performances like that might warrant a solid place in that position but remains to be seen. Maybe peters is on par but Roy obviously doesn't like him. The bottom line is that keane doesn't like to use and play the style of football we all want to see- not once in the 20 months he has been here has he mentioned 'playing football the right way, passing, attacking etc.' It's all been defensive, 'lets steal a goal if we can' kind of stuff. Its horrible, he clearly doesn't like pace, or players who pass the ball on the deck (pablo, garvan) and its against what ipswich is all about. That's about 70% of what annoys me about keane and ipswich in general at the moment, I don't think clegg or Evans understand the club and history, nor keane himself.

Sorry to put a downer on a good evening but its just paper over very large cracks. (i think sven was very accurate on his views about his teams chances in normal conditions).

Totally agree with those saying people who moan about loan players etc, I understand the sentiment there, but this guy was by far our BEST loan player and he's sent BACK!!!! WTF!!!

I'm all for using our own players but there must be more to this than meets the eye? Not playing as much of late, getting subbed a lot? I dunno go figure.

Did great tonight Town, so pleased to see the result but I hope Keane has an ace up his sleeve to solve this puzzle?

Ah well, he's still gone in the summer after we get no where near even mid table.

Decent winger with good pace, he hasn't be been playing too bad of late either

There's is no doubt that he is a talented player and will be missed. With his pace, width and direct style he would have been in my team each week. But at the same time the club has the feel of a revolving door with players coming in and out and am I alone in feeling that what we need is a settled team and settled formation and that we are too dependent on temporary loan players.

Sorry garv posted from my HTC that clearly has mind of its own!!! He is ugoing back now as its transfer window time and spurs will send him somewhere he will get played and chances us we will live to regret it when he is lined against us!! Not big onoans but one or two aces as he was are always an asset!

Why so difficult to understand. Good young player going forward but woeful at helping to defend the full back. He'll need to understand that there are 2 ends of the pitch.
Next off - O'dea ..... legendary lack of pace and positional sense! Hopefully swiftly followed by Brian "oh my god it's more than a foot off the floor.. too high for me Murphy".

There's another article from Saturday saying we are looking to buy in January but need to sell for some funds. Whilst not a sale, we have someone off the wage bill

Keane out why wasn't priskin even on the bench yesterday, that will be good for his confidence ???

Townsend not needed. Oconnor, luca, Priskin at a push will cover that slot. Fallon looks like the signing of the season to me. I feel happy this morning :o)

Yet another baffling decision, a player with flair and skill, although I am not in favour of too many loan players Townsend is one who should stay at least until the end of the season.
Very much a question mark over Keane's ability to ever become a successful manager - no one could doubt his effectiveness as a player, but I am convinced he will never fully understand the game at all.
A compound effect of weird and 'not so wonderful' decisions, WILL continue unfortunately.

The only FFS here is all the bemoaning of WHY !

Simple, not getting games, he's pi**ed off and Spurs wan't him to play and progress, something not happening here at Portman Rd. We have cover, if not arguably as good as Townsend going forward - but better all round players that have a reverse gear!

Like the Lad, but come on everyone, see the bigger picture. Reduce the wage bill as well as you can (21 out of contract should help that!! and I'd guess Chuck and Macca haven't been offered 'Bigger' deals thus the dilly and dally on signing?)

The Championship is always the place for the 'delicate' younger talent, not so much the strength on the pitch but the mind too. I'd like to see on or two seasoned work horses behind Fallon, Scotland, Wickham

Agree with most that O'Connor looked good last night, but we need to see that week in and week out if he's give a run in the team. I couldn't understand Priskin not making the bench, mom to dropped?

I'll also add the £8m turned down for Wickham is looking like a lot of money at the moment! How much to you pay for potential? An awful season not getting any better at the moment. Look hungry when he joined last night, but still couldn't help diving in! Like the lad, but £10m in January and I'd say goodbye.

COYB.

Lets say we get offered 8 mil for Wickham in the January transfer window, before the season started i would have said never in a million years. Now, considering the investment our squad needs...i'd be very tempted. We could bring in 4 or 5 very good players for that.

Mmm...

I think Townsend was very unlucky not to get more town games than he did. A real promising good player with all the right attributes who I would of been happy to sign on a perm deal. I guess from a spurs point of view if he is'nt getting enough football whats the point keeping him at town? Massive shame but at the end of the day Roy Keane selects the side and not playing him enough could be the reason he is going back. It's about time Civelli is given the chance now.

Would suggest this is balancing the books before the transfer window. Reduce the wage bill and then get some new players in rather than pay for a player we will never sign because of cost. Or was it Spurs didn't like Wickhams bid being turned down??? we will never know.
But if our players are fit and well, then we need to save the cash and send him back. A shame but lets see what the transfer window will hold..

Fallon - he is a strong player and can bring the ball down so I think he will be a good player for us. Not a top goal scorer but lots of assists. So I can understand the thinking by Keane.
