Bruce: Colback Can Stay at Town
Bruce: Colback Can Stay at Town
Saturday, 1st Jan 2011 08:34

Sunderland manager Steve Bruce says he’ll let Jack Colback decide whether he stays on loan with Town until the end of the season. On Thursday Blues boss Roy Keane said he was concerned that his former Manchester United team-mate would recall the midfielder at the end of his half-season spell which is up in the next few days.

Bruce said: “I’m aware that Jack’s loan spell is almost up at Ipswich but I’m going to leave it to him to decide whether or not he comes back.

“I’ve had Roy on the phone talking about it and it was an interesting situation — we do have injury problems at the moment, but then I know Jack is doing well down there and getting regular football.

“So we’ll have a word with Jack and leave the ball in his court really — if he wants to come back then he’s free to do that but if he wants to stay there until the end of the season, we’re happy that that will continue helping him to improve.”

Colback appears likely to want to remain at Portman Road where he is playing regular first team football, something which wouldn't be the case at Sunderland.

Needs to push on with the drive he had last season.

Problem with Colbeck is he is better in the middle of the park.
Think he will be pushed to the left wing now Townsend has gone back and Keane will play Norris and Leadbitter in the centre.

Norris looked good on the right against Leicester so possible a Leadbitter and Colbeck centre with Norris on the right and Edwards on the left, or do we do something silly and start to play Cillivi on left. surely he must be getting close to at least some sub appearances.

New loan left winger in Jan?

If Keane does push Colback back out to the left after his showing in the middle against Leicester then it's just another stroke of stupidity in his circus management career here. No doubt from his previous statements saying 'he can do a job there', he probably will...

Let's be honest you wouldn't blame him for going back would you!?!?!? Hope he stays though.

Wish list for Jan transfer window: GK (for cover) LB, 2 x RB, L winger, R winger, 2 x new strikers!!

I for one really welcome Jack to stay with us. Cracking little player, keeps his head down, works hard and above all he likes it here and like playing under keano. I admit I feel his best position is in the middle but hey who am I to Judge, my job is the same as everybody on here and that's to support the club regardless of who the manager, chief executive and owner is!

I would also like us to try and do a permanent deal for Jack

COYB starting at Cov today.

Perhaps not quite so good this time, but starting to look better and with a regular run in the side will come good in my opinion. Just remains to be seen if Jack wants to stay.

Agree with Barhamblue would like to have Colbeck as a permanent deal, However the way we seem to have to cut cost, I can see us affording his fee or wages, If Murphy was on 26k a week at Sunderland, I would expect Colbeck to be on a fair wack

Such an average player! send him back, offers nothing in the middle of the park and useless outwide, always coming inside and offering no width! Keane Out!!!!!!

Preeviously I would have argued for him to leave, as RK doesn't like to leave him out and he makes our team lopsided, preventing Townsend from playing. However, now Townsend's gone I don't see any problem in him staying. He's a good player; he just can't play in a team with both Norris and Leadbitter. It kills any creativity and removes any hope of adding width to our game. He's a CM, as are Norris and Leadbitter - this should be so obvious to Keane it is cringing eveery time all three play together. Roy make up your mind which two you want to play and then the other can be an impact player / rotated. I know I'm stating the obvious but Keane doesn't seem to have cottoned on yet.

If we keep him we have to play him CM. He is not a utility player to be be employed wide left or even left back. There is absolutely no point in bringing in players on loan and playing them in positions in which they are not comfortable.

Problem: who to shift; Leadbitter or Norris? Steve Bruce is happy for him to stay with us as long as he's getting games but is he a better option than Leadbitter or Norris?

I'd love him to stay but can't see a real future for him until he signs full time and I can't see this happening at all.

Move Norris to the right, colbeck and leadbetter in the middle civelli/Edwards to the left.

Am I the only one who thinks Edwards has done ok this season so far?

He is a quality player....playing him on the wing really doesn't get the best out of him tho.

I hope he stays with us, we haven't seen the best of him yet this season but we all know that the skill is there.

Leadbitter6, Ok I'll drop the GK wish, & I'll go with only 1 RB, Happy?!?!.... My point really being, Keane has lost Zuilverloone, may loose O'dea, Murphy out for 3 months, Edwards hasn't really had the impact we thought he would, replacement for Civelli seems to be needed, Priskin poss going to Swansea, Wickham (a great talent) but not at the races this season, so new strikers seem a must to me.

Don't think Steve Bruce will be having panic attacks about him staying here - decent player but no more than that ..............

....... and of course, as per normal procedure - we keep playing him out of position, as we do others most of the time.

Can't see what the worry is, an average player who has not produced much, he wants to stay, then OK, he wants to go, then go, no problem.
