Keane: Two Points Dropped
Keane: Two Points Dropped
Saturday, 1st Jan 2011 18:38

Town boss Roy Keane was disappointed that his side didn’t turn their one-man advantage into a victory as they left Coventry City after a 1-1 draw. The Blues manager also says that Town might have to sign Jack Colback from Sunderland permanently in order to keep him at Portman Road and refused to comment on Swansea’s interest in Tamás Priskin.

Keane said: “We played some good stuff, particularly in the first half. We had good possession, good movement and I definitely feel it’s two points dropped.

“We could have been cleverer when we were up against 10 men, I don’t think we moved the ball quickly enough. In the attacking third, we took too many touches, were too predictable, but having said that we had the best chance of the game through Jack Colback.

“We as a team don’t take these chances, so there should be no surprise there. We don’t score enough goals and we haven’t since I’ve been at the club.

“You have to be clever with your play in and around the box. One or two of our players didn’t take responsibility, we were passing sideways and backwards when you’ve got to be braver. I didn’t think we were brave enough today.”

Keane felt that Marlon King deserved to be sent off if he went in with two feet, but believed his side found it harder against 10 men: “If people think that helped us, it certainly didn’t, sometimes it just galvanises the home team and the supporters.

“We would have been happy playing against 11 because we played against 11 in the first half and we were the most dangerous team.”

Keane also revealed that Jack Colback, whose loan spell ends this month, was the player he was talking about on Thursday who has told him he might not fancy another spell out on loan.

The Blues boss says that as yet no new loan deal has been agreed and believes Town might have to sign the 21-year-old on a permanent basis: “We’ve not had any confirmation yet from Sunderland and a lot can happen in the next couple of weeks.

“Sometimes a player wants something a bit more permanent, what’s the benefit for Jack staying on loan at Ipswich? Some players want a bit of certainty.”

Keane says Colback’s desire for a more secure future could mean he moves elsewhere: “If we can’t agree with Sunderland, we mightn’t have any money to spend on Jack, he might be going to another club permanently.”

Striker Tamás Priskin is understood to be a target of Swansea City but Keane didn’t want to drawn on the Hungarian's future: “I’d rather not have that conversation today. Lots of stuff comes out of football clubs.”

Coventry boss Aidy Boothroyd had no complaints about Marlon King’s red card and has no plans to appeal: “I think it was a typical striker’s tackle, I think it was over-exuberance.

“It’s nothing malicious, he’s got off his feet to win the ball and when you take two feet off the floor, it’s a sending off, and that’s what he’s done.”

Boothroyd felt referee Russell Booth was right to wave away his side’s penalty appeal late on as the video evidence showed that Gareth McAuley won the ball from Lukas Jutkiewicz, but thought his team were unlucky when James McPake netted with a linesman’s flag having gone up very early for an offside.

The ex-Watford and Colchester manager said: “The goal from the freekick we scored was a goal and it was a mistake, but I’ve got the computer there to have a look at and the referee and linesmen don’t have that.”

Boothroyd felt that in the circumstances, it was a good point: “I think we can look back at the end of the season and say that today is a good result for us because they are a good side.”

How bad do things need to get at our club before we sack this fool! Christ where on earth did we have to be at Christmas for him to secure his role and measure our success?!?!
A bleedin' draw against 10 men Coventry for half an hour!
We are a really poor team just now and a clueless manager is ruining us
Evans please sack him now and get someone with knowledge and proven ability in now to save us!
I have never been so low as a supporter of this great club!
Fork! Coyb's!!!

Normally a hard earned point away from home is a good result but we need 3 points to pull away from relegation. Sounds like Priskin is on his away (not even amongst the subs today) which is another waste of 1.7m as I doubt we'll recoup anymore than a fraction of that. Priskin was the fans on this site MOM 8 games running before RK bombed him out of the side. More weird decisions from our Gaffer.

I wouldn't mind signing colback permanently, Fallon is proving to be useful two, however another striker is needed.

I really am more concerned on how Clegg is operating as apposed to Roy. I personally want Keane to do well and will continue to support him as he is our manager but I can't help admiring the Gus Poyet and Tarrico management at Brighton.mmmmmmmmm

Two-feet off the floor for the sending off - pretty much like Holt's tackle in the Derby match ... still, that's gone ...

Shame we didn't win today. Point would have been good - but against 10, we really should have won. Must sign a decent striker and soon. Priskin sadly doesn't score enough. I wouldn't pay over the odds for Colback. £500K at best plus sell on?

well said Smithy hate to say this but Norwich showing us how you should be playing in this div the distance between us is getting greater each week we are looking the poorer E A out of the two what a sad sad state this club is in.

Normally a point at Coventry isn't too bad, but after throwing away a lead, failing to beat 10-men and slumping to 19th in the table I am not feeling too happy tonight. Keane's performance as manager really is woeful. Surely he has to go soon?!

Colback is a decent player, but he is a central midfielder and when we have Norris and Leadbitter as the first choices what would be the point in signing Jack only to play him out of position all the time? I expect Sunderland would want quite a lot for him, and he is another player coming from the Premier League so presumably on a decent wage.

Priskin not in the squad again. Has he been so bad that he doesn't merit even a place on the bench?! He was MoM on this site for weeks running.

A few words of credit to Fallon for playing well and scoring. He could be a useful-ish player for us, but it is still a gamble given his rather poor career record, and considering he will be 29 soon. I wouldn't want us to spend our cash on him only for him to revent to his form of old and then be "dead wood" that we need to loan out or pay off in the future. It depends on the money really - I'd only sign him if we was really cheap and then on a short term deal.

where as i do not agree with some of the recent sackings, allardyce, houghton, Laws, those managers had better win % than our leader. Sadly maybe the likes of Burnley have more ambition and desire to succeed than us.

Surprised at the ammount of negativity on here to be honest. Yes we didnt win and yes it is same old with not converting chances but we all know playing against 10 can be tricky and by all accounts we played our best football of the season 1st half. I understand people wanting Keane out since I can see the arguments for and against but we have had some much worse performances before today which havnt got this kind of reaction. ANYONE WOULD THINK WE HAD LOST. Dont forget Coventry are just outside the playoffs and today is the first time Aidy Boothroyd hasnt beaten Ipswich.

Win you're home games and draw you're away games and you will move up the table. Very tough game against Nottingham Forrest but lets not consistently beat ourselves up.

Good point against play-off chasing team and a manager we have never beaten, yeh we could have won but thats football. Stop blaming the manager, move on and get behind the lads on Monday. We need some momentum before Chelsea and Arsenal.

Was at the game. Two average teams putting an occassional good move together. Could have gone either way - like most teams and games in this division. Colback should have scored to win us the game - fine line between "success and failure". Colback would be a good signing. The Priskin thing
(not even on the bench) does seem weird, but even when he played well he didn't
score many goals. I am not anti-keane but do think it's time for him to go.

Good point(s) Big Foot but 'the manager' made mistakes again today.
I have a glass half empty feeling. Last time I had this was 20'ish yrs ago. This month is going to be, errm, ...interesting?

ChrisB - IMO (at times) inspirational (but getting no games) Priskin will be going out on loan again or sold. It's all about relationships with 'Keano'; not really footy. Thats why, 18 months on, we're still average.

I was at game today and agree with previous comments that it was a game that could have gone either way. Having said that, I felt Town played better than I have seen in past few weeks , Leicester excepted, and created the better opportunities. Having McAuley back was a great bonus and Fallon is proving much better than I would have expected. It definitely feels like 2 points dropped but also not so desperate as things have been. Monday will give us some idea if this is anything other than a temporary improvement.

Simply put, if any of the current top six teams played against a 10 man opponent, they would have a good go at winning the game.

Our playing style is woeful, why always so direct ? Lumping it about... I paid my monies to watch pass and movement, it's funny that magilton got the team to pass.

We lack a creative flair player, a player who can take set pieces. Also if we brought well we would have options.

In my opinion, let colback go, he will break the transfer and wage funds and reclaim what we can for priskin if he can be sold.

Martin Jol is without work and an ideal media personality with plus of playing football the right way, it's really time to thank Roy and let him go.

I don't want to watch town in division 1, time is running out

I'm fed up with the headline dissapointed almost after every game it's beggining to right on my t!ts! There are clubs recently who are now changing there club ie new managers due to managers leaving or getting sacked. Why aren't we? Forget the play-offs we are not good enough simple as that. We are sitting 19th in the table no progress at all. Two points dropped today. Looks like scum will finish above us this season this is a flippin Knightmare.

First things first
Get rid of Livermore, Priskin, Colback and Keane.

Get Burley and Ambrose, play some football, get a few points and stay up.
Sort out the long term in the summer.

My glass is half full - cos someone (uess who?) as p***ed in it.

Unbeaten this year though and only 7 off the play-offs.

Burley, sadly, is finished and has been since before he left us!

I was another at the game today and in general a decent game with town positive and the better side in the first half. McCauley made a huge difference to the defence looking more solid. Peters winning headers all the time against Eastwood. Edwards was also unlucky with his drive against the bar, I also thought Fallon and Scotland had a good understanding and looked dangerous. Fallon was winning everything in the air and holding the ball up well. Just a shame in the second half we didn't go for it to much sidewards passing and final ball, O'Dea was a disappointment no final ball and would push on and go beyond Colback down the wing for the overlap. Coldback should of wrapped it up but hey a win at home to Forest on Monday and it won't seem a bad point.
