Keane Set for Target Talks
Keane Set for Target Talks
Tuesday, 4th Jan 2011 10:19

Blues boss Roy Keane says he doesn’t yet know whether any players will be moving either in or out of Portman Road before this Sunday’s FA Cup tie at Chelsea, but is expecting to speak to a manager regarding a target today.

Keane revealed last week that the Blues had received loan interest in a senior player, with Swansea understood to be chasing Tamás Priskin, and he says he has spoken with various bosses recently: “We’ve had a loan offer and we’ve had conversations. I’m not trying to be clever with you. You have loads of conversations with different managers. Some make enquiries, some follow them up, just like we have.

“I’m due to speak to a manager [on Tuesday], he’s going to get back to me regarding a player. I think it changes by the day, I suppose with the transfer window being open it changes hour by hour.”

Speaking after last night’s game, the Blues boss said that losing to Forest didn’t mean he was intensifying his search for new signings: “I’ve been keen to strengthen for the last 16 or 17 months, so the next few days won’t make a difference. I won’t be on the phone tonight. That won’t speed up where we need to go as a football club.

“We’re looking at two players, that’s what we’re trying to bring to the club and trust me, as soon as any deals are done, I’m sure you’ll be the first to know.

“At the moment, there’s no news on any players, whether they’re coming or going. Please God, when I’m due to speak to you on Thursday or Friday, hopefully I’ll have news for you.”

Asked whether Priskin is set to join Swansea, the Town manager said: “Not as of today. Tamás, along with young Rooney [Ronan Murray] and one or two of our other young boys, will be playing for the reserves [in a behind closed doors friendly against Crystal Palace] on Tuesday because he hasn’t been involved in the last couple of games. That’s standard.

“Tamás nearly made it for the Forest game but young Rooney’s done well in training, Rory’s been a handful, Connor’s had his first 90 minutes, while Jason has had two games in three days. Tamás has got a bit of competition, he’s just missed out over the last few games. There’s no problem with Tamás."

Colin Healy, Luciano Civelli, Reggie Lambe, Conor Hourihane and Jack Ainsley are also in the reserves side facing the Eagles second string.

Keane, who fears that the Blues could lose Jack Colback after his loan spell ends on January 14th, says there have been no further developments regarding the current loan players.

The Blues boss feels that recruiting senior temporary signings is not a simple business with a specific target, perhaps Andy O'Brien who is set to join Leeds, having proved hard to persuade to move to Suffolk: “Attracting loan players is always difficult, particularly experienced players because of our location.

“Don’t be expecting two or three loan players coming in over the next few days. It might have to be one or two young players who are quite happy to move away from their families.

“Hopefully the lads we might be looking at won’t be married or have kids so they can put up with staying in a hotel for a couple of months and are young, hungry and want to do well.”

Meanwhile, Sheffield Wednesday boss Alan Irvine is reported to have denied making Plymouth a bid for on-loan Town striker Rory Fallon.

If it is not a midfield player who creates chances for our strikers or a player with some pace on the flanks then don't bother Roy. You have wasted far too much of our money and all your comments which continually contradict themselves drives us mental. I stayed with you but enough is enough so please just go - I'd rather have Kiwomya running the show than Keane. Did you see Martin on the box last night - heavens what a load of tosh he was even at that level. I am just waiting for Palace to send Pablo back now to eradicate any hopes of signing a decent creative midfield player. Very sad days indeed.

Surely if the buck stops at the top, RK is only the manager. ME surely is the one to blame for letting his company (ITFC) get into this shambles. Im sure a manager in one of his other interests would not have been allowed this long in office.

It is fair to say that without the investments of Marcus Evans (whoever he is) administration would have been certain, so we should be grateful to him for saving us from this. So what drove a highly successful business man to invest in a football club. Publicity, to raise the image of his already expanding empire one would expect.

Not better way than to appoint an extremly high profile manager in R.K. This way the Sky cameras would be constantly at Portman Rd. interviewing our manager about any kind of topic with the 'Marcus Evans' slogans all around, hence generating that publicity he wants.

With 2 high profile cup ties coming up this meadia interest will be intensified in the coming week, so sacking of R.K. at this stage would not be in M.E.'s interest.

Whether or not M.E. decides that keeping R.K. at the club for publicity is more important than the football club he owns in serious danger of being relegated remains to be seen, however he should not expect the same amount of publicity in Div 1, Roy Keane or not

Jim managed to attract Gio to this part of the world, didn't he?

Face it Keane..nobody (of any decent footballing ability) in their right mind would want to come here and play for a clueless manager living on borrowed time.

He needs to get the team playing how ipswich have always played (up til now) and we all know how that is. The embarrassing thing is for keane is that there are quite a large amount of fans that believe they could actually do a better job, and I f*cking think they could!

Reason why players will not come to Ipswich is nothing to do with our location, it's the manager, See comments from Stead and Walters

I cant even be bothered to be pissed off anymore. Were on a suicide mission, its obvious whats wrong at the club.So if the board, chairman ect, cant be bothered to do anything, then its hardly worth getting worked up.Afterall keane did say,i take ipswich to another level. So stop whinging hes achieved his aim,he just did not say what level he meant.

Still waiting .....

Good point. Geographical location must make things difficult. Look how tough it is in the 'little island in the marshes' at the end of the A140, to attract championship players.
(forgive me father for I have sinned)
I think he meant geographical location of the current manager...

bicesterblue2 ; your comments are absolutely right on the money. That is why RK will see out his current contract. Like it not, this club sold out to a businessman.

To get an idea of the man, you should check out the following:-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marcus_Evans
The best hope for supporters is that RK is given the money in Jan to get the players to fill the gaps that everyone is suggesting. Creative Midfield player(Jake Livermore getting there), Good consistant wide player( Andros not consistant enough).
RK knows what he needs, CK and others at the club will be saying the same as the fans, but if the Boss does not back you (RK keeps saying he has bascially had his hands tied for 18 months) , then what can RK do? He will not resign , ME will not sack him as it will cost and also will be seen as a failing from a successful business man.

Hate to say it but i am bored with ipswich town fc. bored bored bored, i believe the players feel the same way. Marcus Evans wake up and smell the coffee your investment is going down in flames. You need to lead from the top not leave it to and incompetant manager and an ex army pe teacher to sort out because i think you will find they have both failed in there respective tasks

Yeah have to agree with bicesterblue2 as well, I believe that is the most accurate post of the day! you do have to ask yourself why he hasn't he been sacked. Just watch the football league show and it is generally about KEANE rather than ITFC and about how much air time we receive through him, if we had a manger of lesser name then this club would have almost been forgotten about considering the position its in. I can only invisige that ME sees that RK finishes his contract, hope I'm not right but if I am (and others think so) we've got another 5 months of staying clear of the relegation zone!

Why does it take the lower Britannia to wind Keane up, we cannot hear the North Stand library anymore. If you want RK OUT than it is about time we heard from the North.

Why can't Keane get players? Well as a player he upset a lot of people so maybe it is pay back from some managers. Would you do him a favour? As it may hurt your ego.

The location of Ipswich has all to do with it. Who ever mentioned Sir Bobby never had issues getting players, well you wouldn't when you were pushing for titles... we are no longer a big club times have changed, the lot up the road have a nice City to go shopping in and enjoy life, plus they are doing rather well.
Players are now in control. If you were an older player would you: -
A, get paid and stay at home with the family.
B, or go on loan to Ipswich. The place that has the worst road system known to man and a town centre that is awful and get the same money and live in a hotel away from the family.
It's always going to be ‘A', As you will all know it is not a shock that he is having a hard time getting players as he mentioned it at the shareholder meeting.
We need a player maker and maybe Luca will be the guy for the job, if not then we will have to try and tempt someone with big money if ME allows it. But after the money he has put in from day one, I can understand why he is holding back.

Yesterday Nottingham only scored thanks to us, so this league is bloody tight and with luck we will get out of this hole we are in. With or without RK.

I'm really not sure what to make of Keane's commute comment. I am right in thinking that he banned anyone from commuting and said that they must live in Ipswich? Wasn't that the reason Lisbie was let go? Surely the answer would be to allow people to live a commutable distance away i.e. London.

Surco72 added 15:44 - Jan 4
How can Luca do the job when he is never selected ? You cannot have a playmaker when you just punt the ball from the back all the time ,and with no width he will have very limited outlets to pass which makes our play very predictable and easy to defend against . And what was the 3.5 million paid out for Leadbitter for if not a playmaker ?
Harry wants Woodgate to go on loan to the championship ,he would get a lot of defending practise if he came to Town
