Southampton Join Swansea in Targeting Priskin
Southampton Join Swansea in Targeting Priskin
Thursday, 6th Jan 2011 10:38

TWTD understands that League One Southampton have joined Swansea in chasing Town striker Tamás Priskin. The Hungarian has failed to make the Blues 18 since a lacklustre performance from the bench at Preston a month ago.

Last week, boss Roy Keane revealed that Town had received a loan offer for a senior player with Priskin understood to have been targeted by Swansea, who are managed by his former Watford boss Brendan Rodgers. The Swans previously made enquiries regarding Priskin in the summer.

Southampton are also now showing interest in the 24-year-old with Keane having admitted that the Blues may have to loan or sell players in January to release funds.

With that being the case, Town could look to sell Priskin rather than loan him in order to bring in the cash with which to sign another striker, one of Keane’s main aims during the transfer window.

Speaking on Monday, the Town manager said that Priskin was close to making his squad for the Nottingham Forest match and dismissed suggestions of a fall-out: “Tamás has got a bit of competition, he’s just missed out over the last few games. There’s no problem with Tamás."

Priskin, who scored in Tuesday’s 2-0 reserves friendly victory over Crystal Palace, is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2012 with Town having the option of a further year.

Prior to his recent omission, Priskin had finally begun to show why Town paid the Hornets £1.7 million for him in August 2009, netting five goals. However, a month-long barren run led to him being dropped.

The 6ft 1in tall frontman failed to make much of an impact during his first season with the Blues, moving to QPR on loan in January having scored only twice in the first half of the 2009/10 campaign.

I just hope Keane goes before he does.

Priskin must have made it clear that he wants a loan move out to have so much interest in him.....
Fear there may be a lot going on behind the scenes with this one.
Oh well, we can always bring back Stern John if Priskin goes out on loan (or just recall Kevin "The Wonder" Lisbie)

If he gets sidelined and taken out of the picture for one lack lustre performance... How about all the other players that either can't be bothered or simply don't have the ability? Not to mention Keane himself?!?!?! Should have been sidelined permanently month's ago based on his ability and poor results as our manager! Don't get me wrong I don't think Priskin is that good but he ain't the worst thing at our club just now... That award goes to Keano! FORK!

We would have to sell him not loan him out again. Its a shame as he's a good player, but I'd prefer someone with abit "more about them". He sometimes looks like he isn't really interested. Maybe he's trying to be like Berbatov, Pity he hasn't got the same class as him

Who is going to be his replacement though itfc1981?
Jack Midson?
I would rate Priskin above Midson anyday....

one lucklustre performance and keane tries to get rid of him!! leadbitter has had a lucklustre season and he still walks into the team, another case of keane shipping out any classy, attacking players; clearly has a personal problem with him!!!
shipping priskin out leaves us with 3 strikers and a dwarf!
get rid of keane before he gets rid of the best players from are poor team.

Be prepared for bad news because i for one just know McCauley is not going to resign, who would want to work for Keane? look at what he has done, Priskin off to Southampton? they are Div 1. Keane is a seriously not very nice person and it seems to me he has lost it even more BIG TIME !!

He is good enough to do very well in the Prem so why would he want to go to Southampton? Keano made it clear he was dropped cos of his sub display at Preston and went moody on him (scapegoat) so there are issues, why does Keano lie?

People wanting to keep Miskin is about as sane as wanting to keep Keane.

^^^Priskin is a striker who is selfish in front of goal, yet still cant score. he's rubbish at his job, plain and simple.

Ole, Leadbitter has been bloody awful I agree.

You are just getting old 81 :o) Cant keep up with Priskins pace. I would stick him out wide, he is our only player who regularly takes defenders on and more often than not beats them.

One bad performance and he is dropped.

Sorry guys Priskin has scored 7 goals in 46 games/sub for the club, he was very poor last year and got called by many on here, he has played better this season but still not really done it, yet he is now seen as a great player that the club should not get rid of, his record at Watfiord was never that great.

Would prefer to keep Wickham above Priskin and if selling Priskin to fund buying a goalscorer then yes, However the replacement needs to be far better than any of the strikers we currently have.

Ipswich Town FC appears to be dying on its feet before our very eyes

1 A manager that cant manage
2. A CEO that cant negotiate or tie up players deals
3. An owner that appears more interested in corporate image than the Football Club
4. Significant dwindling support at PR as fans have had enough of the dross

Bloody hell even the Magilton days seem Brazilain in contrast now .

Karlos, his set up play for fatso Scotland was superb. Scotland just wasnt up to it. If he had put them away and town were doing well I am convinced that Priskin would have started popping them in too. Against Forest there was no sign at all of any town player scoring (except for delaney). At least when Priskin is on the pitch there is hope and a bit of exciting flair.

Personally all this talk of about who we should let go/get in/loanees etc. is just wasted, aren't we just back to square 1 as per a year or so ago? it doesn't matter as we still have the complete waste of space that is RK - He first has to go and would then be interesting to see what the next manager would do with the same set of players. If you want attractive passing football don't get RK he can't even get the job done in his own way.

Timmy, his own way was scuppered by Clegg and Evans. He (keano) warned them in good time.

Prisken over Scotland any day.

1. he can last 90mins
2. he can keep up with play - often the ball is up pitch and scotland is huffing and puffin in midfield
3. His is 23 not thirty something.........
4. He will take on defenders and shows some lovely little nice to watch footballing touches (hmm thats exactly why he is going no doubt).
5. are southampton going to give us anything like 1.7 m for him???

Keane has to go and the sooner the better. Ok he isnt being backed financially, Clegg is a muppet but we do have a half decent sqaud that if used correctly and in the correct positions would be capable of a top 8 spot not relegation fodder.

stead was better !..... christ i think pablo was better..... waste of money and not good enough sort of like keane really..maybe seeing him in the squad reminds keane of how useless a manager he is so he wants rid

Ridiculous business if we let him go, even on loan. Goals wise he hasn't delivered but like a lot of others on here, I feel he is one of our only players with a bit of creativity about him.

Keane is losing the plot faster than you can say madman in pyjamas.

Priskin is so under rated by town fans, he is creative and will score bags of goals in the right team! Leadbitter has not manned up this season and as a result he deserves the stick he has received. We still need 3 or 4 players to even start to play any decent football and win games consistantly!

Paul Jewell's odds have been slashed from 20-1 to 11-8 by betting shops as next new manager of ITFC? Has he been spotted?

I'm crying into my coffee as I write this!!! (only reason it's nothing stronger is because I dont think my boss would be impressed at the consumption of a few whiskeys whilst at work, but my god I need it!!!!) Its not about Priskin but the whole sorry mess, I was a Keane loyalist and believed he could really do a job here. Now it's evident that he can't and nor can the men above him. Yes we may be in League one now if Evans hadn't come along, but the way it's going we'regoing to be there next year even with the 12m or so that's been spent. We have a team more than capable of reaching top six, not struggling to fight off relegation a second year in a row. We dont automatically belong in the prem but we do belong in at least the top half of this league. We have the players who as individuals are not far behind the quality of our promotion winning side of 10 years back. Promotion is a long way off and in my time as a town fan I have not known a period of time so long as now for us being out of top flight football, nine years now!!!! A bit off subject but we wont get there by spending £1.75m on players and not using them. In fact think about what we could have done with the £3m or so spent on Martin and Priskin and it's starting to look like we wont have either player on the books by the end of the season and will probably be lucky if we recoup 750k on them both.

Get some attacking wingers, get the ball in at Priskin's feet and he will score. He has pace and flair but NO SERVICE.

Get rid of Keane. He is incompetent and sulky. His team selections are based on rufty tufty tackling and last man standing. His substitutions are hilarious.....and... oh, I really can't be bothered anymore.

On second thoughts, maybe Priskin can't wait to leave.
