Colback Recalled By Sunderland But Livermore Gets Cup Nod
Colback Recalled By Sunderland But Livermore Gets Cup Nod
Thursday, 6th Jan 2011 16:28

Midfielder Jack Colback has been recalled by Sunderland ahead of the Black Cats' FA Cup third round tie against Notts County at the Stadium of Light on Saturday. Better news for the Blues is that Jake Livermore has been given permission to play for Town in their tie at Chelsea on Sunday.

Colback had less than two weeks remaining on his loan at Portman Road and has said he'd ideally like to secure a permanent move rather than another loan this month. Blues boss Roy Keane has confirmed that he would be interested if the price is right.

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce decided Colback was required back on Wearside after David Meyler suffered a knee injury, Danny Welbeck a hamstring problem and Bolo Zenden picked up a suspension.

More positive news for Sunday's FA Cup match at Chelsea is that Jake Livermore has been cleared to play, Spurs boss Harry Redknapp originally not granting permission.

Town have also asked Celtic to allow Darren O'Dea to play at Stamford Bridge, but Rory Fallon is cup-tied having featured for Plymouth in the competition earlier in the season.

Grant Leadbitter is suspended for his red card late on in the Nottingham Forest match.

waste of time having him if he's not played in the middle . He would have been too expensive to sign anyway

Dont understand some people. Has easily been one of our better performers over the last couple of months, even when asked to play out of postition. When played in his correct postition against Leicester was outstanding. A big loss, and i think its pretty obvious we wont be seeing him in a town shirt again. Big loss, why we didnt spend the money on him instead of rubbish like Martin and Priskin is beyond me.

Probably get a good response from the side on Sunday as it virtually picks itself ala WBA

how quickly will Keane be following?

Does that mean he can't come back after the Chelski game? He was good last season. This season not brill but done ok. We have to many midfielders that are the same sort of players. We need play makers not just grafters that are'nt play makers. Jim magilton was a great play maker we need players like him in are squad. FORK By the way. :)

Time for Civelli.

Didn't his arrival coincide with our dip in form? he was part of an unsuccessful team last season and its happened again this season....nothing against the lad, he's a good enough player....just saying like...

Good season last year but less effective this time around and with Leabitter and Norris a 3rd player offering nothing more is no loss.
Perhaps this will free up some dough for the right striker?
It may also give an opportunity for Peters on the right and Edwards / Civelli on the left?

big loss, I know we couldn't have played him in the cup games, but gives you so much in the league, shines above the rest! we wont sign him now either - sadly

This will probably be because Sunderland's young midfielder Meyler (sp?) picked up a serious injury last night. When I saw that news, I thought: there goes Colback.

Good luck to you, Jack--you've done us proud, now go make a career for yourself.

Typical as soon as Leadbitter gets suspended and Colback would have moved into the middle of midfield where he is a much better player than he has shown since he came back, he gets recalled by Sunderland !!!!

One of Keanes biggest target as well. No funding for him to secure a signing its only a matter of time now when Keane is shown the door and thank god I can't wait for it.

Not done it for me as previously stated by Millstblue upset the balance last season and has done exactly the same this by trying to squeeze him into the side out of position .Good player but should have started ahead of Leadbitter .
Would rather we held onto Livermore as he at least trys to pass the ball forward and create

Ooooh, a few more suspensions injuries and callbacks and Roy Keane's hands will be tied and the players can get on with playing!

This is when Keane is at his best! When he hasn't got any choices!
Chelsea 0 - 2 Ipswich (Priskin 42, 67 and subbed for Healy on 68)
Ipswich 3 - 2 Arsenal (Scotland 18, McAuley 51, Healy 88)
Lets keep up our form against premier opposition (100%) before a nice relaxing relegation battle when favourites come back!

FORK!

Should we be reading a bit more into this?
Is Steve Bruce old enough to be Keanes father?

Hyam will be in with a shout for the weekend with Norris in the middle.
Or maybe Livermore now that he is available too.
With Townsend and Colback recalled and with Shane O Connor injured we are a bit light of the left midfield. Peters can play on the left of midfield or maybe Civelli but I think Chelsea is a bit too big for a rusty player. Peters should get the nod. I think Delaney will pay the price for his OG with Smith getting a game. Maybe Murray can play a part at some stage. He can play on the wing also albeit the right.

Fulop
Kennedy Smith McAuley Browne
Peters Livermore Norris Edwards
Scotland Wickham

Colback joined us on 15th October when we were 5th in the Championship and the day he leaves we are 19th in the table. I don't blame him personally as he is a hard worker, but I wonder what our league position would be if we played Townsend or O'Connor on the left for those matches?

I think Colback is a good central midfielder, but what is the point of buying him to play him out of position? It doesn't make sense.

Not really on topic but it occurred to me that when Keane says no one wants to come to play for Ipswich, apart from cash considerations and Keane's erractic team selections, could it be that the requirement to live on the doorsteps also puts off potential acquisitions? It's an employee's responsibility to get to work on time - not for an employer to dictate where he lives unless he provides the housing, I'd say

Pity as he will be cup-tied and won't be able to play in the next round!!!

Rather start priskin than wickham

62WasBest - Maybe. Not allowing players to live in London could put some players off coming here. I don't think it was right to apply it to players already at the club, as they had signed their contracts before Keane arrived. It clearly upset Lisbie and Thatcher, who were not our greatest players but if they were friends with other members of the squad it could have caused unnecessary upset and not helped our start to last season.
