Town Confirm McCarthy Appointment
Town Confirm McCarthy Appointment
Thursday, 13th Jan 2011 15:56

Town have confirmed that, as reported earlier, Paul Jewell’s former Bradford City strike partner Sean McCarthy has joined the new manager's staff as a coach. The 43-year-old has signed a contract until 2013.

McCarthy, who will be in the dug-out alongside Jewell at Millwall on Saturday, met the squad along with the new boss at Playford Road this morning.

While TWTD understands that reserves coach Chris Kiwomya will remain at Portman Road, there is as yet no news on goalkeeping-coach Jim Hollman and fitness coaches Antonio Gomez and Simon Thadani. Roy Keane's first team coaches Tony Loughlan and Charlie McParland have left the club.

In addition to McCarthy, Jewell may make further appointments to his backroom team with his former Bradford, Wigan and Derby assistant Chris Hutchings having been sacked by Walsall earlier this month and newspaper reports linking West Ham coach Wally Downes.

PJ, I think that most supporters would agree with me when i say that it would be nice if at all possible for you to concider keeping on "charlie" if at all possible, you only have to look at last nights performance to see that he is a good tactician, very astute, and that the players really played for him last night.

COYB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope we keep Gomez as we proved last night the conditioning/fitness of the squad looks very good. Arsenal looked empty from 50 mins onwards.

Why is any new manager bringing in his own people any sort of surprise? McParland did a good job steadying the ship but now it's time to move on, he said as much himself.

McParland was excellent last night but he was defeated before we even played Chelsea and his after match comments were not impressive. New broom I say but thank Charlie for his part in last night. All the right decisions so far - glad Kiwomya looks like staying he has ITFC blood.

Amazing and hilarious, in equal measures.

Welcome Sean.

I would like to see Chris Hutchings join Ipswich, as he worked so well with Paul Jewell in the past (including the successes at Bradford and Wigan).

Bradford City fan in peace here! Jeez your getting a real Bradford feel are'nt you?!
Sean McCarthy was a brilliant striker and scored some corkers including 2 against Norwich in 1993 coca cola cup - (when they had that 1 good season) when they had Goss, Gunn & Fox et all. Anyway enough about Norwich!
I have every confidence Jagger Jewell will be a success well he does it in Odds! BRADFORD, sheff wed, WIGAN, derby, IPSWICH?
Hutch if he comes is a great coach - let him stay that way - he also looks like Kurt Russell.
Final piece is Chris Kiwomya who is actually a Bradford lad!

Good luck Tractor boys, hope we can climb the ladder and join you in a few years

Sorry mate.... Don't understand your northern accent.

It would seem your living in the past a bit (we too are guilty of this), move on fella, get your team back up ABOVE THE LEEDS SCUM.

Kiwomya was born in Bradford but he's ours now, jog on.....

Sorry I know this isn't relevant to this story but in case no one read it this was Cesc Fabregas' comments to the London Evening Standard this morning, thought you all might enjoy it!

“In England, a lot of teams play like that and it works for them, they create chances like that and it is their football. We just have to put the ball on the floor and try to play football.

“Credit to them because they played well but Arsenal played the football, the other team refused to play football, they were lucky to score with a long ball.

“Still, we played well. We were good enough but just did not put the ball in the back of the net. I can remember only two opportunities for them but it was from a long, long ball because when they were playing football they could not really get in behind us.

“It is a disappointing because we were the much better team but it was one of those nights.”

Fabregas insisted Arsenal did not underestimate their opponents, who were thrashed 7-0 by Chelsea only four days earlier, and claims the semi-final second leg on 25 January will be a different proposition.

“It is not the same to play at Stamford Bridge as it is to come here,” added the Arsenal captain.

“Here they play in front of their fans, they are more motivated, the pitch is not as good as Stamford Bridge, so they play their game. They know how to do it and did it very well, so credit to them. Now we will see how they cope at the Emirates against us"

Someone needs to take the dummy out of their mouth. Maybe he is trying to justify why a certain Healy and Peters dispatched him to lay on Priskin for the winner!

Poor little Cesc.

Just read the quotes from Fabregas....

"I don't know if it is long ball or a rugby kick but it worked for them,"

"It was disappointing to lose because I think we were the much better team. Arsenal made the football, the other team refused to play football, they were lucky to score with a long ball,"

I mean what ridiculous things to say...ofc they are a better team sherlock....but too suggest they played better on the night. We closed down quicker, won all the 50/50, defended better, showed more passion and desire....all qualities that result in a "team playing well"

Re. "Now we will see how they cope at the Emirates against us."

Id love it so so much now if we knock them out.

Re. "the other team refused to play football" We have a name Cesc....Its Ipswich...

Sorry...I know this is off topic but reading the crap he has said has realy wound me up.....why cant he show some respect and acknowledge they got beat by the better team on the night....Lets give him sh1t on the 25th....9000 should be able to let him know what we think
