Tuesday, 1st Feb 2011 19:24

Striker Connor Wickham has been nominated in the Championship Apprentice of the Year category at this year’s Football League Awards. Despite recently signing a new professional contract until 2013, Wickham is still a second-year academy scholar.

Town are not nominated in any other category at the awards, the winners of which will be announced at a gala ceremony at The Brewery in London on Sunday 20th March.

The England U21 international striker faces competition from Adam Thompson of Watford and Wilfried Zaha of Crystal Palace.

well done CW
on the subject of tommy smith, theres a player i think needs to go out on loan until the end of the season, could happen in the next week or so - would be good for the lad troy brown possibly to. two promising young CB's we have there that we dont want falling into obscurity

I couldnt agree more Calmingwind, its important our youngsters to play at a lower level. I think i could see 1 of the 2 going out on loan. I would like to see other of the other young fringe players do the same. our squad size could he holding them back

congrats connor hope you win it big fella.

on the subject of loaning people out, who would we use if Delaney and GMac got injured????? Brown and Smith, so they really cant go out, but i think the likes of lambe and murray definately need the games and experience.

well we could have a re-call clause in the loan deals - failing that Odea is a center back really, Kennedy could go left back if hes not playing the holding role in midfield, O'conner could do LB aswell.

Going on loan is important, you can only learn so much in training and the reserves - reserve games arnt very frequent anymore anyway and generally players will learn and pick up alot more if they are playing in a competative environment week in week out- even if it is League 1 or 2.

keeping a young player on the bench or not even making the bench inhibits their ability to learn.
