Dyer Rejoins Town on Loan
Dyer Rejoins Town on Loan

TWTD understands that former Blue Kieron Dyer has sensationally rejoined Town on a month’s loan from West Ham. The former England international will go straight into the squad for tomorrow’s game at Leeds.

Ipswich-born Dyer, 32, came through the youth ranks at Portman Road and broke into the first team under George Burley’s management, making 104 starts and 13 sub appearances, scoring 14 goals before moving to Newcastle for £6.5 million.

Having won caps at U20 and U21 level with the Blues and having been in senior England squads during his time at Portman Road, Dyer eventually made his full international debut when a Magpies player and went on to win 33 caps.

Injuries hampered Dyer’s career at St James’ Park and have continued to do so since he joined West Ham in the summer of 2007 for £6 million, limiting him to only 17 starts and 18 sub appearances for the Hammers.

Town are certain to be paying only a small percentage of Dyer’s wages, which are understood to be £83,000-a-week.

The midfielder, whose West Ham contract is up in the summer, was asked about the possibility of a future return to Portman Road when he was back at his old club for a pre-season friendly last summer: “I don’t believe in comebacks, but you never know, you never know!”

Blues boss Paul Jewell said yesterday that he was looking for an experienced midfielder to come into his squad with skipper David Norris suspended for two games after reaching 10 bookings, Jimmy Bullard a doubt with a hamstring injury and Colin Healy likely to miss out again with a torn stomach muscle.

I am not sure what this will be. It's a bit of excitement in a dead season, though.

Ambrose was not given enough time to show what he can do, Palace fans love him and at 300K would have been a great signing, go and get him in the summer, still only 26 with an eye for goal, would be a great signing.

Portman 51, I don't think so he was only 21 I think, was a class player and would have had 50 caps plus without serious injury, if he is fit enough to play is far better than anything we have in midfield so hopefully he will provide us with some much needed improvmemnt.
I think this is also about ST renewals.

Def crowd puller!!! Still sponsors local boys team so blue through and through, hopefully will be great inspiration for the young lads to see someone who came through the youth system and got thirty plus full caps. Win win only a month if it goes belly up we lost nothing if it works well hopefylly extend and show the budgies how to play football, just hope he isn't too much of an ego in changing rooms. Btw can't believe he is thirty two!! Ah and agree would love to see ambrose think he'd suit jewell attacking style and don't think he'd be hard to convince to return.

Not wishing to sound negative but ,it do's look more of a publicity stunt ,than a practical move.He was a very good player, and perhaps if he can stay fit he still is,but a lot of water has gone under the bridge since he was at P R ,he has had problems and been one since leaving us .Lets hope he can show the better side for a month .COYB .

Would like to see him play as I was too young when he was first here.

Really not sure what to make of this. On the one hand - as a fan of Dyer during his first spell, my heart tells me I'm delighted to see him back and I wish him luck.

BUT my head says this guy is over-paid and even more injury prone than Jimmy Bullard - just 33 appearance for WH in FOUR years suggest he's not match fit, which must be a worry.

Overall, considering we have little to play for, this seems a pointless over-priced risk. He will go back after a month!

I think Dyer will love coming back here, he still has great feet and a quick footballing brain and will link up perfectly I think. Yes we know all about his injury problems but right now he's not going to break into that West Ham side on a regular basis...at last, a Manager that understands what we're missing!!!! (just needs to keep fit! :))

.... more injuries than a kamikaze skateboarder - an expensive sicknote for sure.
Although I would hope otherwise - but what can the benefit to us be ? - is this part of the rebuilding we continuously hear of ??????????????? - not in my book for numerous reasons.

It,s not a risk as he is on loan. Dont you remember his mazy runs, exquisite skills, exciting play. He is here to help us short term to achieve safety, then the rebuilding process can commence. Oh no, i forgot, instant success can only be tolerated in the h32 world. Get real, Rome wasn,t built in a day.

As usual, some on here are happy, some are NEVER happy (Daleyitfc - have you actually watched Bullard play for us?). I for one am delighted to see KD back in a blue shirt and can't wait for 3pm. Let's give him our support and hope that he produces something like we know he's capable of. Good luck Kieron and welcome home!
