Jewell: Delaney and McAuley Offered New Deals Tuesday, 29th Mar 2011 12:11
Town boss Paul Jewell has revealed that defensive pair Gareth McAuley and Damien Delaney will be offered new contracts. The duo are amongst the 21 players who are out of contract at the end of the season.
Jewell said: “We are a lot further ahead. I spoke to the players just before they went away. I’ve spoken to them all, including Damien, which is another pat on the back for him, and also Gareth.
“I told them we will be putting an offer in writing and hopefully that will be accepted. And as soon it is accepted, it will get signed.”
McAuley, along with skipper David Norris, turned down an initial offer before Christmas, while Delaney had not previously been given new terms.
Meanwhile, former Blue Ian Westlake is training with Colchester United having been released by Wycombe Wanderers.

I can imagine the scene: "Phew! Thank god we've got those two contracts sorted out. Shall we do Norris' tomorrow? I need to get home to my family" "Maybe we should stay late...some of our fans aren't too clever and will seek scandal when we reveal the first set of contracts. People are very assumptive nowadays. They'll think the rest won't get contracts unless we do them all at the same time" "But that's impossible! We only have a certain amount of hours in a day. Are there really people that dumb?" As the saying goes.....To ASSUME makes an ASS out of U and ME.

Where is Dyer any way, very little mention after not being in the squad for the Scunthorpe game. Has he gone back to West Ham. Can't be any fitter now than when he came on loan. Presumably only a week to go of his loan. Phil: What's the latest?

Maybe not offering Norris a new deal is helping to open up a way in for Jimmy?

Great news on both players, lets hope they sign, I think PJ may go in for a new CB in the summer, & possibly sees Delaney as back up, but if he can get him to sign now, before approaching anyone else, this can only be a good thing.

Our team should have been re-built around Westlake and Richards a few years back. The 2 Irish idiot managers messed everything up.

Reusersfreekicks....my mistake! It was Ambrose who played in that epic game. In my defence it was almost 10 years ago and the old memory ain't so good! Anyway I still think Westlake was a class player who lost his way.

Chrioswich is entitled to his views, just as much as drunk blue women who diss anyone they disagree with.

DaleyITFC I'm not sure you will get too many people subscribing to the view that the team should have been built around Westlake and Richards. Given their careers post ITFC I shudder to think where we might be now if we'd kept them. In one way though I do agree with you; over the last 7-8 years we have not reaped the proper rewards of our Academy and the talent that has emerged from there. It is desperately disappointing that NONE of the FA Youth Cup winning team of 2005 are still on the books. The oldest of the bunch - Garvan & Haynes are still in their early twenties and at least are still in the game; most of the others are history already.

Let,s hope that the offers made are acceptable to both players. As for Westlake, i remember him seemlingly having real potential under big Joe, but kind of losing his way a bit after a time at Leeds. Would be good to see him make a go of his career if offered a deal at Colchester.

Well I for one am pleased about Damian and Gareth being offered new terms.I rate Norris, and believe that even if we are going to play 4-4-2 next season, he would still be able to do a job for us. On the Dyer front, he's the one I hope we don't try to sign, too injury prone.

Giving G-Mac and DD new contracts is fantastic (should they choose to accept them) but where would Tommy Smiths development come into all of this??
