Jewell: We Can Learn from Derby Defeat Saturday, 23rd Apr 2011 10:58
Town manager Paul Jewell says lessons can be learnt from Thursday’s 5-1 home defeat to Norwich City. The Blues boss is looking for his side to bounce back when they travel to Swansea on Monday.
Jewell said: “We can only try and learn from it. Nothing is ever a waste of time. You learn things all the time about yourself, the players and as a team.
“It was an horrendous result for us and for the supporters, who I really feel for, but we have to try and bounce back.”
The Blues boss says the result was a major shock to the system after what had been a decent end to the season: “Obviously we are still feeling hugely disappointed, but we have to get over that disappointment.
“We have had a good end to the season, although of course the Norwich defeat gives us a huge jolt.”
Town could have left-back Mark Kennedy back in the frame at the Liberty Stadium, the veteran Irishman having returned to training last week but Lee Martin will miss the second game of his three-match suspension.

I like PJ but it's a pity it took him until half time to see that Scotland was having a mare of a game.Having said that I dont understand why he was even playing, a better option surely was to have either Peters or Civelli playing as the wide man with Wickham up top.As for Monday if Murphy is fully fit for goodness sake play him in goal as he never let us down last season and give him the chance to impress as both the other keepers have cost us matches this season.

Keanesque comments there from Jewell. Same tactics too with no passion. Losing faith Paul !!!

So Lee Barrett has one bad game and everyone is on his case? Look at how well he's been the past few games. I feel sorry for Lee Barrett and Norris, because they are getting some really undeserved criticism at the moment and it's rather pathetic...

@whoppit - Really?? What do you expect him to say? He's a manger coming into a new club, which is itself a whole new learning process. People seem to forget that this season means absolutely nothing, zilch. It's a good time to learn as Jewell says he is doing, so we can prepare for next season. He knows what we need so it's a case of making use with what we have until the summer where we can strengthen the squad. Keanesque my arse... Jewell is 100x the manager than Keane is.

Are other Town fans (like me) now totally sick and tired of Town players trot out the same old descriptors...." they love this Club" and "want to stay here", yet season after season cant be arsed to put in 100% for the Club? Im sick of listening to the likes of Edwards sounding off in the local press week in week out...or players bellyaching about their bloody contracts, yet turn in displays like Thursday night. For Gods' sake PJ sack the bloody lot of the them - and get in some players with REAL HUNGER in their belly's, and give us fans something to shout about about!! We've had EIGHT YEARS of this crap. Its time for a REAL change !

what a disater..lookin forward to this match for ages and then to have to watch ipswich make a massive f-up on a great sunny day, spoilt my easter w-end and worst of all to watch those budgies singing after two goal presents in the first half was very hard to take..where was the commitment and heart...3---1 gave us some hope but not for long...more easter presents followed soon after..had fled the scene by 4-1,like the rest of ye, only to find out the scum had added again.. worst ever derby day by a mile..

Got to face facts we are a club in a group with the likes of Coventry, Barnsley and Middlesborough. We have had a few days in the sun but in reality it will take a miracle, years and lots of money we dont seem to have to build a team and a squad to get out of this division. I predicted we would get 58 points so we have done a little better than i hoped but with the defence, midfield and attack we have we can only beat those around us (except for Cardiff inexplicably). Started watching Town in 1958 and there have been many years of hurt for the few that have been great, such as at most clubs.

What can we learn? An owner, board and chief exc who live for the club and not use it as a bussines venture. Players who are not journey men and want to play for you, a manager who is good at his job and not a big name ( Well at least we learnt one lesson.)

Bring on the summer... If I could wish the season over that would be great... Nothing to play for nothing to look forwrd too... I'm still very optimistic for next season thou under PJ and I'm sure when the derby is further away in the memory bank most people will be too.. I just hope the next transfer window ends in success and PJ is backed 100% which hasn't always been the case... My wish list is much like others.. 1. Striker 2. Full backs. Pj will also sign a midfielder who can tackle which we currently haven't got.. I believe we r actually 7 players short of challenging with a Centre half needed as well as a goalie... With regards the out of contract players only Mccaully would disappoint me if he moved on... If asked about Norris Id say to people would we really miss him!?! I think no and for the wages he would be on I feel it's time to say thankyou and good luck... If I keep blabbering on maybe it will be august and we can start again with some renewed optimism as my glass is half empty at the moment... :/

What I see is that Town are psychologically fragile. Get in their faces and they back off. Lacking in courage, confidence and consistency. Even with 5 in midfield we seem unable to take control of the game. Norwich demonstr

An apology would be a good start from the players. There was only good individual performances from Bullard and edwards on the night. The most dissapointing player was Scotland I really would'nt be bothered if he ever played for town again he had no hunger desire nothing just so poor. ALB Just had a bad day at the office like most players although he should of saved at least 2 of the goals I think we were going to lose anyway. I just hope Norwich don't go up and we get the chance to put things right next season. Reaction required against swansea.

Did we not already know before this embarrassing defeat, that Scotland is usually totally ineffective on his own up front, or that when your number one Goalkeeper is fit and available he should be first choice in such an important match ?

dont want to seem devious but we may be able to get a bit of revenge by caving in to Swansea .

......... surely we've learnt that we need another Paul Lambert - as much as it pains me, no one can argue against the fact that he knows his stuff - didn't take him long to sort out the mess at Carrot Road. And even the most staunch of their supporters would admit there was a right mess to sort - and he's done it without loads of dosh to spend and in good time. We don't rate at the moment - 9 against 2 for - in the last two derbies say's it all. PJ - spend a month / or two with him in the summer please.
