Murray Returning to Town
Murray Returning to Town
Sunday, 24th Apr 2011 13:57

Town have recalled striker Ronan Murray from his loan spell at Torquay United. Murray has been with the Gulls since March 9th, scoring one goal in four starts and three sub appearances.

The Blues insisted on a 24-hour recall clause in the loan deal, available after the first month of the Republic of Ireland U21 international’s spell at Plainmoor.

Town have been short of strikers since loaning the 19-year-old to Torquay and Tamás Priskin to Monday’s opponents Swansea, while Jason Scotland has failed to impress in their absence. The frontman will go straight into the squad for the visit to the Liberty Stadium.

Murray has been offered a new one-year contract by Town with his current terms up this summer.

Why now? Immediately following our failure to sign Simon Cox would have made more sense, not with only 3 games left to play. Not getting enough minutes at Torquay?

Agree with SouperJim. Odd to recall now with absolutely nothing to play for.

PJ sadly dropped the ball - the Norwich game was the only remaining match with anything riding on it - oh to have a striker on the bench for that game. Too late recalling Murphy now I'm afraid.

Edwards, Scotland, Peters and Brown are in Nando's atm!

So the coach hasnt gone yet...I think Nando's is where they all meet before an away game.

His Facebook status says its been a pleasure Torquay so I think its true!

Probably called him back as he is not getting enough minutes on the pitch. That would suggest he has not excelled at that level so what chance at ours. Hope I'm wrong but don't think the lad is ready for our squad. With his size you have to be exceptional and he clearly is not. As I say I truly hope he does make it on a regular basis but I doubt it. On the other side of the debate Carson has proved that size doesn't matter as he is clearly ready for our squad and could be exceptional so who knows.

You definitely won that argument STB ......... Although you may have lost it too!! :) I think it's clear that Murray is way too small not have been big enough to be exceptional for Torquay. But may be too big not to be exceptional for Ipswich. Or not!!!

we need another striker as an option from the bench. Why not? Well done Jewel.

I would also imagine that Murray, having played for several years at youth level with Wickham and Carson would be more comfortable at Ipswich than he might have been at Torquay with a new set of players.

Could BFJ be thinking of an attacking three of Carson - Wickham - Murray? Would be excellent to see.

MazzaCOYB added 18:49 - Apr 24
Really hope you are right Canadian, it would make so much sense to give the three a chance together and I bet they would love it being good mates and playing for the full squad in an attacking three- would be a dream come true for the young lads and very exciting to see how it turns out! Makes massive sense recalling him to see what he has got seen as we have nothing to play for.

Scotland dropped for the rest of the season. Makes sense really.

Not that surprising to me. He's had a decent spell at Torquay (I understand he's played pretty well) and no reason not to give him a few games in a Town shirt before the end of the season. At this stage there is no reason not to...

I agree, think it's a good move to let him (Murray) have these remaining 3 games with Wickham in a 4-4-2, think we've seen the last of Scotland in a Town shirt, (well I hope we have!)

Makes no obvious sense to me. Has he signed the contract offered to him? As far as we know; No. Is he going to get any minutes on the field here? Unless PJ has seen something the Torquay management have missed; extremely unlikely. OK the last three games are pretty irrelevant for us and it might be an opportunity to see what he can do but I can't see him getting ahead of Wickam and Carson in the queue for places next season particularly if we sign a 'guaranteed 20 goal a season striker'.

Maybe it's good PJ man-management challenging him to prove himself but can't see a happy outcome here at all.

Has anyone seen wickhams a3? Not sure if I like it as he dosent have metallic paint that's how you know if it's him!!

As posts above have said I wouldn't imagine the coach leaves until late afternoon as they train in the morning, have lunch then get the coach their have dinner and go to bed ready to train in the morning!!

I would imagine jewell wants to see murray before next season?
Or he's sick of Scotland after he was subbed at half time, perhaps Norwich was the last time we will have seen scotland in a town shirt with any luck

Wickham, Carson, Murray in squad .. would put a smile back on at least 1 Ipswich Fan tomorrow.

Wickham drives a matt black A4 by the way.

I agree ozzy blue. Jewell wants to see if he lives up to the 'most natural goal scorer' title handed to him by keane. He plays well with Wickham so it will be good to see them upfront together in a 4-4-2 with o'connor or civelli coming in on the left.

Excellent point, Bluecynic, and, for me, it does make sense.

Let's hope, for Blue041273 in particular, there is a happy outcome in the long term.

But do not forget that, a few seasons ago, Scotland was outstanding in a Swansea shirt against us.

All things Footy and their fervent fans alike are fickle! That's the fun of it.......
