Brown: I Left Town For Regular Football
Brown: I Left Town For Regular Football
Monday, 4th Jul 2011 14:11

Former Town defender Troy Brown says he turned down his new one-year deal with the Blues in order to play regular first team football with Rotherham. The Wales U21 international signed a two-year contract with the Millers last week, TWTD first revealing the League Two club’s interest in May.

Brown said: “I had a great time at Ipswich and personally had a good season but I felt that it was time for me to move on and get regular football.

“I need games under my belt to learn and grow and gain experience and I don’t think there is a better place to do it than here.

“I’m pleased to come to Rotherham and I want to get the team promoted, then the club will grow and hopefully I’ll grow with them as a player as well.”

The 20-year-old has been impressed with his new boss: “I think Andy Scott is a top man. I enjoyed our chat and he definitely made the club sound good in my eyes and that’s why I’m here. Hopefully I can prove to everyone that I’m worth signing.”

Meanwhile, former Birmingham midfielder Lee Bowyer continues to be linked with the Blues. We understand that, as reported on Saturday, talks are ongoing between Town and the 34-year-old, but have not yet progressed as far as has been suggested elsewhere. Derby County and Bowyer's former club Leeds have also been linked.

Former Blue Hermann Hreidarsson is close to agreeing terms on a new one-year deal with Portsmouth.

Peterborough striker Craig Mackail-Smith, a reported Town target earlier in the summer, is perhaps surprisingly is on the verge of joining Brighton for a fee which could ultimately reach £3.25 million. West Ham, Leicester and a number of Premier League sides had all been linked with the 27-year-old.

Fair play to him. We regularly criticise those who want to sit on a bench and take big wages - I think it's refreshing for a young pro to be hungry to play games.

Personally I was never that convinced by him on the pitch but good luck to the lad.

Craig Mackail-Smith to Brighton......wow!!

Good move for you Troy. Maybe going out on loan to get games may have been a better move for you. But wish you luck.

Just shows that Poyet could sell fridges to eskimos.
Seagulls have much to look forward to. New league, new ground and potentially a top striker.
Just gutted we have to wait until Feb to visit the ground. Was hoping that would be our opening away trip.

i think this is a great signing by rotherham and a great move for brown.
been to rotherham when ipswich played there and its a nice ground and they were not that long ago in the championship under ronnie moore.

seen brown a couple of times and think he is really good centre half and this will do him good give a couple of years he will be a top player

Churchmans when ITFC last played at Rotherham it was at Millmoor. I would hardly call the Don Valley Stadium a nice ground in fact far from it. I too liked Brown as he could pass the ball but was not quite up to the plate in my opiniion. I do however think he could have done better than Rotherham much as I like the Club.

Can't really criticise him for making a brave choice, but I'm pretty dissapointed he's gone, showed real potential for me and we're not exactly flush with right sided defenders right now... might have seen more football than he thought he would if he had stayed another year and could have always moved on after that if he still wanted to. Still, best of luck Troy, I think Rotherham have got themselves a decent player here.

Best of luck. IMO you have the potential (and clearly the drive) to go on to better things. With some of the over paid deadwood, its nice to see.
