Town Linked With Move for Watford's Sordell
Town Linked With Move for Watford's Sordell
Tuesday, 12th Jul 2011 06:27

Town are set to offer Watford £800,000 for striker Marvin Sordell, according to a report this morning. Yesterday, Blues boss Paul Jewell revealed that he had made bids for a striker and a winger.

Sordell, 20, was an academy schoolboy with Fulham before moving on to Watford’s youth set-up. Having spent time on loan at Wealdstone and Tranmere, the 5ft 10in tall frontman broke through into the Hornets senior side in 2009/10.

But it was last season when the England U20s cap really started to make his mark in the Championship, scoring 15 goals in 29 starts and 18 sub appearances.

Town fans will remember the Brent-born frontman for scoring Watford’s second goal in the Blues’ 2-1 defeat at Vicarage Road last season and also for netting a hat-trick in an FA Youth Cup victory over Town at Portman Road in March 2009.

Elsewhere, the Blues are reported to have made an increased offer to Doncaster for midfielder James Coppinger, the subject of at least one previous bid earlier in the summer.

Paul Jewell recently said that he could make renewed attempts sign the 30-year-old having failed with an initial £300,000 offer early in the summer when he also tried to land Rovers striker Billy Sharp.

At 5'10 I too can't see this happening. Nathan Ellington is also 5'10 and Chops (5'9) isn't a target man either.

Someone else to come in I'd say.

What about the old Matt Derbyshire story? Could it be him? 6'1 tall.

Just a word of caution, the price quoted seems very very cheap and I believe this link has come from the daily express...

Agree with SouperJim. Watford have already sold Graham for a decent sum and will want far more than £800k for Sordell. The only hope would be £800k plus Priskin/Scotland. New manager at Watford may like the look of Priskin as part of a deal.

Would be good, hopefully. Can't remember seeing him play. Think I was too busy looking at Graham scoring against us :(

We won't need a big man next year because we'll be playing Barcelona-esc football. Bowyer and Leadbitter are the new Xavi and Iniesta....

Who's with me????

Saw that Youth cup tie; Marvin played better than Connor that day.

£800,000. Hilarious. On that basis, me and my mates would like to offer £2.50 and a packet of smarties for your entire squad...

Watford extended his contract last year to 2013 knowing other clubs would be looking at him, no way will they sell for 800,000.

Watford will not sell for £800K in a million years. Get real. Liverpool showed serious interest in him and Adam Barton in January for a combined fee of £8M.

Had a cracking start to last season - a very good young prospect. Watford are not a club in a position to turn down decent offers either

Young, very quick (desperately need pace in out side), an eye for goal and at £800k could prove to be a fantastic buy if PJ can pull it off.

As previous comments have suggested though this will spell the end of Jason Scotland, perhaps out on loan.

Priskin, Ellington, Sordell and Chopra sound like a good pool of strikers for me. I would like to see another midfielder (Coppinger would be great) and a CB/RB to offer cover to Ivor, Smith and Delaney (Eastman would have been the better and cheaper option. A 6 month deal for him was a joke).

Come on PJ keep working hard, doing a great job! COYB

I would be happy to pay double the 800k for this guy. He is exactly the sort of player we have been missing in recent years - genuine pace and skill.

Marvin is a player with a good brain for football. I saw him play for Brent Schools a few times and he is RAPID!
Eating Centre backs and murdering wingbacks with his pace - just a little too shot happy but if if you don't shoot you don't score.! Would be a very good investment...

£800k?!!...no chance..watford know we've got money,they'll probably want more like around £2-3M.

Not the biggest, but has Ballistic pace. I think he will be ours for about a million. As for coppinger, IMO we only should get him if Sharp comes as well, which is unfortunately unlikely, so move on. Better bring in a RB so Edwards doesn't play there every week.

another thing to bear in mind is that Watford barely have a striker on their books at the moment. They pretty much only have Sordell and Deeney who are both very young. I think they will be looking for strikers rather than selling them.

This sounds a whole lot too good to be true. Would be interested to see where this 'report' stem from... Oh wait, here it is:

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/3689399/Ipswich-chasing-8000

An entire 3 lines of 'journalism' on the Sun website.
Stand down Superblues.

he's a great prospect but I still think we need a tall physical striker espically in the championship and it would give us another attacking option upfront.
