Jewell Makes New Striker Bid
Jewell Makes New Striker Bid
Wednesday, 20th Jul 2011 12:00

Town boss Paul Jewell has revealed that the Blues have made an offer for another striker but says that the target isn’t Sheffield United frontman Ched Evans. The Welshman has been linked with Town on a number of occasions this summer with reports on Monday claiming a £1 million bid had been turned down.

Jewell says he has made a move for a third new frontman of the summer but not for the same player he was chasing during last week’s Holland trip: “We’ve made an offer for a striker and we’ll hopefully hear from them on Thursday. That’s a different striker [than we were waiting on before].”

While Town have not made an offer for Evans, the Blues boss says that a future approach is not out of the question: “Someone said to me that we’ve had a £1 million bid turned down. That isn’t the case.

“People are speculating about Ched Evans. He’s a player that’s on the list but we haven’t made an offer for him.”

The newly-relegated Blades are desperate to offload Evans’s £15,000-a-week wages with the 22-year-old now understood not to have joined the rest of his team-mates on the club’s pre-season training camp in Malta.

Middlesbrough, Leicester and Cardiff have also been linked with the former Manchester City man, who joined the Blades for £3 million in the summer of 2009.

Jewell says he's confident that he'll get the additional players he's after before the season begins: "We know we need a couple of players and we're hopeful of that happening before the start of the season.

"We know the players we want. We're looking for two or three players and hopefully they will be here and ready to go for the Bristol game.

"We're looking at all areas of the pitch. We know we're still short and we're determined to get the players in we need."

As long as it's not Evans, Hulse or Sharp cause they're all cack.

And with 6 strikers and 3 centrebacks I think we can presume we are playing 2 up front next year! Yippee! And 1 at the back.

Hmmmm let me see. Gotta be somebody that nobody else wants. Gotta be about 33-34 years old and are looking for a last payday !!! Maybe a buddy of PJ or Hutchings perhaps?

We have signed some crap this year so far I am afraid.

Whoppit, You are a complete end of a bell, can't you just go outside and play in the road or something?
Im sure yourself and a certain Ged Scott off the EADT are the same people, Both numpties and negative idiots!!

Anyways back to the thread..........I have faith in PJ to bring in the right men for the task in hand, Unlike a certain Mr Keane who did bugger all this time last year apart from bring in Scotland at the very last minute!!
Ok then Whoppit i will put you on the spot...............Who would you like to see PJ bring in to play for us?? (And no stupid answers like Messi or Rooney)
Instead of slagging off every player and every post on here let's see what you,re made of...........Let's see which players you would like here!

I dont think we need anymore strikers. I think we have competition for places there already, and like i said before pre season started - i think scotland has more to offer (just needed a good partner). With ellington/ tamas/ and murray waiting in the wings i think thats quite comp! Need to concentrate on RS CB and a more creative midfielded (although i heard Drury was very creative last night)...COYB's

Whoppit has to be the saddest, lonely, depressed boy/man in the Ipswich area. I feel bad that i've even dropped down to his very sad level but had to make that comment. Plus how can you say chopra is a bad signing, HOW?
Wouldn't minded if we signed kevin phillips instead of ellington however, a natural goal scorer that will always score when he is on the field! Even if it's the last 10 minutes of a mate.
Also i'd drop damien delaney to the reserves! Looks like bamby on ice when on the ball or a basket ball player trying to kick a tennis ball, no technique or class at all, even if he is a centre back!!
