Leeds Linked With Priskin Loan
Leeds Linked With Priskin Loan
Friday, 12th Aug 2011 11:09

Leeds United have been linked with a loan move for Town striker Tamás Priskin. The 24-year-old seems certain to leave Portman Road this summer with a number of frontmen ahead of him in the pecking order.

The £1.7 million August 2009 signing from Watford wasn’t included amongst the subs for last week’s season opener at Bristol City and missed Tuesday’s Carling Cup defeat to Northampton as he was away with Hungary.

Blues boss Paul Jewell has never appeared entirely convinced by Priskin, whose contract is up next June, and sent him out on loan to Swansea for the final weeks of last season.

tbh I'd rather see him go on a free now and save all his wages than pay part wages for a 6 month loan deal followed by a free at contract end.

can't believe there will be a new contract offered so we should cut our losses now.

as for who is better Priskin or Scotland...irrelevent debate as obviously neither are in the plans for PJ...move on!

'I'd rather see him go on a free now and save all his wages'

It doesn't quit work that way. Unless another club is prepared to pay the same wages as Priskin had on the remaining part of his contract he will stay or we will have to make up the difference. Something many clubs do to be rid of a player.

I should imagine though he is on a high wage so even a loan will free up money to bring in a good player from a lower league, as would paying up his contract. It hasn't worked for him here and I hope this will be part of the process of ridding the club of Keane's absolute failures. If Leadbitter does go then hopefully Scotland will follow.

Unfortunately, as Tues night demonstrated, there isn't much in the way of quality back up and Jewell's policy of signing 30 somethings should keep us up, but will will leave us with more rebuilding come next summer. Hopefully this is going is going to be a necessary transition period whereby a few experienced pros hold the line while Jewell locates and brings in some decent, younger players who have the hunger and want to step up a league or two.

I doubt there will be any player of the Keane era left come next June, and to be honest they won't really be missed.

Why let him go until we have experimented with him in the other new striker combinations?

@Bluejake

Stick him in the reserves then !

Bluejake added 11:20 - Aug 12
You can't send Scotland out if nobody wants him!

Needs to go.
For too long we have tolerated flash strikers who did not score. If this was "just a confidence thing" then he would have had a period of sustained scoring at some point in his career... but he has not. Not even in the reserves. look at his stats
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tam%C3%A1s_Priskin
He played 39 games for us last season and we got 5 goals. That may have been the system we played but he has never been prolific.
Scotland on the other hand has had a good 2 seasons with the Swans where he was a consistent scorer and scored a goal every 2 games. Even for us he managed a goal every 4 games and he was our top scorer last year. He may be fat, not blessed with a silky technique but he scores. I would not care if he was sold, but those that want to keep Priskin and sell Scotland need to look at the facts.

tractorog : factually you may be right about Scotland having scored loads of goals when at Swansea. Bobby Charlton scored loads of goals in the past but he'd be crap now and thats about where Scotland is. Tuesday showed that Ellingtons ability to take a ball at pace or bring it down and control it was way above anything which Scotland can manage. His control is terrible. Chopra needs someone to play off and certainly thats not Scotland. I'm not saying its Priskin but if one had to go then i would still say Scotland

Priskin flatters to decieve, far to often he plays with a couldn't careless attitude. He must have it in him, or he wouldn't have done so well at Watford.

dugoutdave: I'm not saying play Scotland ahead of Ellington. I said Scotland was better than Priskin at scoring goals so if the choice was Scotland or Priskin then keep Scotland and get rid of Priskin.

@HARRY10 whatever the complete financial picture may be (i dont profess ot be an expect in the contract workings) there will still be a saving of some percentage of wages rather than paying them all year to contract end.
There is no point IMO in loaning out a player in the last year of his contract, especially in the same league, when we dont need him for the future - if he's not in the plans of the rebuilding of our squad this year there is no future for him here.

So........ we should move him on at the first financially positive opportunity

If we don't get a new striker I'd like to see Priskin upfront with Chopra. With JET just behind.

The 1 difference I can see between scotland & Priskin is Priskin doesnt seem to be playing with a car tyre round his waste! Priskin ahead of scotland anytime.

Talbs - you clearly havent seen JS's new slimline look!

Personally i would rate him above Priskin but think they are both mediocre Championship players when either of them have a rare good day!

We need goals Priskin has never got goals anywhere he has been the BEST he has ever achieved is about 1 in 3.5 games NOT ENOUGH Scotland has previously been a 1 in 2 man and I believe would get 17-20 goals if played every week. Having said that he is not as gifted technically as Priskin but Priskin doesn't score enough. I personally would be happy to see both of them go IF we could get someone else in that might have potential someone quite big and young I wish I were a scout for ITFC id be hunting Hi and Low in Northern Europe, Scandinavia and South America I wish Jordan Rhodes would have been given a chance for us I hate Keane for that!!!! ANYHOOOO COYB!

Agreed, pound for pound one of our worst ever signings, no desire, just happy to sit on the sidelines and take the money, when he has been out on loan no one wanted to keep him for that very reason, a pity we can't just cut our losses and get rid, he will leave at the end of the season on a free anyway.

Send him out on loan but only till Christmas so. Then if hes found his form he can challenge Chopra at least
0

tractorboy2434 added 09:37 - Aug 13
If he was ever going to find any form we would have seen it, lazy, complacent player, we were absolutely fleeced by Watford, he was never, ever worth 1.7M and we will get nothing for him, If Leeds take him I will wager he will be back at PR by Jan, mark my words, he will leave on a free in June and go back to Hungary, an absolute waste of space and money.

Why do people moan about Scotland apart from Chopra one on one or in the box id have him any day problem is his not a lone striker its not going to happen but next to a big man he would score goals
