Cotterill Refuses to Comment on Leadbitter Interest
Cotterill Refuses to Comment on Leadbitter Interest
Tuesday, 16th Aug 2011 11:44

Portsmouth boss Steve Cotterill has refused to comment on his club’s interest in Town skipper Grant Leadbitter. Yesterday, Blues boss Paul Jewell revealed that Town had turned down a bid from Pompey for the 25-year-old.

Cotterill said: “As far as I know, our chief executive has spoken to one of the Ipswich guys [regarding Leadbitter].

“It’s not come out publicly from us. Maybe they want it to come out publicly. It’s not something I’d discuss in public. He’s not our player.”

Elsewhere, Stoke’s Ryan Shotton is set to join Burnley before the weekend, according to reports in Lancashire. Town and the Clarets are both understood to have made offers of around £1 million for the 22-year-old with Blues boss Paul Jewell yesterday playing down the club’s chances of landing the central defender or right-back.

"Its not something Id discuss in public".
"Our chief Executive has spoken to one of the Ipswich guys".

If you dont want to discuss it in public, then dont discuss it.

Seem to remember Mr Cotterill publicly discussing / tapping up someone else's player (David Norris) last season...? Seemingly he suffers from memory loss?!

Jewell doesn't want to pay Leadbitter what he's on at the moment. He knows he wont take a cut so he's outed the interest to spark a better offer elsewhere. If he wanted to keep him and thought it was viable he would've kept his trap shut about the interest

Leadbitter is as good as gone. And looks like we have been beaten for another player - Burnley again. PNJ, Evans and Clegg now have to step up to the plate and start signing some decent players ... Creswell and Chopra were good signings, but the rest are loans, frees, has beens or injury prone. Jury well and truely out on JET.

The bloke is a to$$er, he should concentrate on his own mob rather than trying to unsettle ours all the time.
He is still unhappy that he didnt get our job after Jimbo.
Really hope we give them a pasting this season.
We will probably piss them off tonight when we lose to their hated rivals.............

I think Leadbitter will go, and I don't mind at all as I feel slightly cleansed each time one of Keane's signings leaves! £2.7M and a big wage for an ex-Premier League footballer has not been repaid. He's only scored a couple of goals excluding penalties, hasn't he? He usually does okay, but no more than that and he is the quietest captain I have seen so I would understand if Jewell wanted to drop his wages down. How much would we get for him though? I foresee a £2M loss coming.

Cotterill is a grade A plank. He always has too much to say for himself.

Like the previous comments concentrate on your own team.

In regards to Grant Leadbitter, he has been an alright signing, i think it is more the fact that he is Kene signing that people feel a little resentment towards him. He hasn't set Portman road alight or put in the big performances but who has since Holland/Magilton in the middle of the park.

In the style of Ivan Drago, "If he goes, he goes".

Lets concentrate on getting 3 points tonight, a fighting performance and please please hand the captains arm band over to eithe Lee Bowyer or Damian Delaney.

COYB, please lets get the win tonight. A great start (first game) follwed by a few loses is not what we want as despite it being early, we can fall off the pace very quickly.

Cotterell gets on my nerves and talks so much drivel. I am not a lover of Pompey full stop with all their dealings in the past, but there is always an excuse from Cotterell i.e. only having one sub or four subs because they are short of players. Portsmouth need to get their act together and I too hope we give them a good beating when we play them.
