Town Turn Down Blackpool Offer for Scotland
Town Turn Down Blackpool Offer for Scotland
Tuesday, 30th Aug 2011 22:33

Town have turned down a £350,000 offer from Blackpool for striker Jason Scotland. TWTD was first to report the Tangerines’ interest in the Trinidad and Tobago international frontman earlier today.

Blackpool appear likely to make further overtures for the 32-year-old, who Coventry, Birmingham and Middlesbrough are also believed to be eyeing, before the transfer window closes at 11pm on Wednesday.

Scotland, who has a year left on his Blues contract having signed from Wigan for £750,000 a year ago, had dropped down the Town pecking order, but scored one and created another after coming on as a sub during Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Leeds. The former Swansea man is currently understood to be back home in Trinidad.

Earlier today, Blues boss Paul Jewell revealed that he is looking to recruit three more players either before the transfer window shuts or when Football League clubs have the option to sign players on loan in a week’s time when Stoke defender Danny Collins is set to be added to the squad.

West Brom’s Spanish international centre-half Pablo Ibáñez, the subject of a Blues loan offer earlier in the month, is another player that Jewell has said is likely to become available once the transfer window closes and the 30-year-old continues to be linked with a move to Portman Road.

Town are also understood to be interested in a loan move for Tottenham’s England U21 international winger or left-back Danny Rose.

The 21-year-old joined Spurs from Leeds as a youngster for a fee reported to be £1 million and has subsequently spent time on loan at Watford, Peterborough and Bristol City, in addition to making six starts and three substitute appearances for his parent club, scoring his only career goal so far in a 2-1 derby victory over Arsenal.

Elsewhere, Town manager Jewell was spotted at this evening’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie between Colchester United and Barnet at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, which the Bees won 3-1.

In June, the Blues were linked with U’s central defender Magnus Okuonghae, although the Nigerian, who has since been mentioned in connection with a number of Championship clubs, wasn’t involved tonight and would seem an unlikely target given the other centre-halves currently in Town's sights.

Meanwhile, midfielder or striker Jay Emmanuel-Thomas is not expected to miss the match at Blackpool a week on Saturday despite suffering an ankle injury during the weekend's 2-1 victory over Leeds United at Portman Road. The ex-Arsenal man picked up the knock in the incident which led to Leeds defender Aidy White being sent off early in the second half.

New central defender Ibrahima Sonko limped out of training earlier today with a stiff back and hamstring but the problem is similarly not considered too serious.

Town are hopeful that Ívar Ingimarsson (thigh) and Lee Bowyer (hamstring) might be in with a chance of being involved at Bloomfield Road, although neither is yet training with the rest of the squad.

1 year left on contract and significant wages - that offer sounds about right to me?

no more of a insult than ours for Coppinger.
My view would hinge on how much of a load off the wage bill he would be.

That would mean he has lost approx 1Mill in value in one year.
If Chopra gets injured we will definitely need Scotland, I can't see anyone else in the squad scoring more

How has he lost 1m in value when he cost 750k?

2 year contract 750k - 1 year left =375k??

I'd say wages near £15k a week as he came from PL, plus a fee this sounds a v good deal to me

If he keeps losing the weight and knowing as he does that no decent offers came in for him until now, we could still see a the best of him yet. I saw a different Jason on Saturday. His goal was first class as was the lay off, I say keep him. I agree with most on this site, let Prikin go and pay someone to take him if necessary.

First post, go easy on me people.

Having seen him at the Leeds game he looked noticeably fitter. I'm hoping this was due to a good pre-season and a wish to play more football/score goals. He was sharp and looked as though he wanted to be in the shirt. Assuming he wasn't just placing himself in the shop window, this offer can't be high enough. He isn't past it at 32 and would make a decent impact player/injury cover in the push for the higher places in this division - which PJ needs to hit now the owner has invested (more) serious money in the squad.

I can't see the exec jumping at this (yet). It can't be at the value placed on him. And (personal opinion), if anyone up front should be going, it should be Priskin.

As PJ says: clubs always reject the first offer!

I think we would be wise to hold on to Jason Scotland and feel that he could just be coming into form for us after watching him Saturday, he also gives the impression that he wants to do well for us.

I agree entirely with Churchmans. Sure Scotland came off the bench to great effect on Saturday but let's not forget that the Leeds game turned on the red card. On the whole Scotland has been disappointing and at 32, entering the final year of his contract, I would sell without question. I suspect his wage is pretty hefty too. If he goes to Blackpool, I would insist he doesn't play on the 10th though as strikers often score against former clubs - Especially in their first game.

It shows how well Scotland has done to improve his fitness etc. as a few weeks ago (even one week ago!) most fans and probably the club would have accepted this offer as a good one. Jason is a year older than when we signed him for £750K, he must be on big wages and his contract runs out in June, so £350K sounds a reasonable bid to me. It'll be a bit difficult to wrap up a deal if he is in Trinidad though won't it?!

I'd still sooner it were ' The Totally Uninterested One ' Priskin !

This was a great offer! We should have bitten their hands off. Gutted.

Keep Scotland, we need him for his goals!!!
If we sold Scotland and Chops got injured, who would play up front?
Priskin and Ellington!!! (and possibly Murphy). Now ask yourselfs, how many goals a season would that get you from the strikers? 8? 10?
And even if Chops didn't get injured, he'd struggle to score very many alongside Priskin or Ellington. I think Chopra-Scotland could work very, very well!!!
KEEP SCOTLAND, this is a very low offer, even for a 32 year old. I wouldn't let him go for less than 850k-1m!!!!!!!!!

Lanky added 08:31 - Aug 31
Keep, and sell the outrageously lazy Priskin!

bobble added 08:32 - Aug 31

Sounds a good offer under the circumstance, but i still think he has something to offer us as he proved on Saturday. I still want Priskin given a chance with Chopra though.
