Town Linked With Free Move For Andrews Thursday, 3rd Nov 2011 19:21
Town will reportedly try to sign midfielder Keith Andrews on a free transfer from Blackburn when the Irishman’s loan ends in January. The 31-year-old has another 18 months on his contract but is very much out of favour at Ewood Park and has no intention of returning to the Lancashire club.
Andrews has said he would be interested in extending his Portman Road stay beyond January, while Blues boss Paul Jewell is similarly keen to keep the one-time MK Dons man in his squad.
Blackburn may be willing to consider such a move to remove Andrews's contract from their books, although it's likely that the Blues' five-goal joint-top scorer would probably look for a pay-off with his wages almost certainly set for a drop if he joins Town on a permanent basis.

Getting him on a free would be very good business indeed

Would love this! Anyone else seen how well Liam Trotter is doing now?! Three assists in his last game, and I was probably one of few who knew he'd become good! If we kept him and Jordan Rhodes, where would we be! Trotter putting them through, and Rhodes finishing them off! Ahhhhh well! COYB!<3

Trotter and Rhodes have done well, Rhodes at a lower level. Neither exactly set the world on fire here. Pleased they've done well, but we really should move on and support the players we have!

Can't believe we let David Johnson go, he was great!

Can see this being very 'Jimmy Bullardish'. Brilliant player on loan when he's trying to prove a point but when we sign him he'll be much less effective on the pitch.

Trotter was fairly disappointing for us but I am very pleased he has done well. Let's not forget RK offered him a contract, but it was rejected by the player - at least we got compensation. Overall I agree wth TractorMan - it's time to forget the past and move on. Sometimes players need to move to progress. Andrews would be a good addition to the permanent playing staff - but still think we need youth, pace and width in the midfield. At the moment, it's all very samey and one paced (very slow!).

Agree with Jas, Trotter was useless for us. Just because he is doing well at another club we can't all say 'oh we should have kept him'. Rhodes is a different story. Anyone saying 'he didn't exactly set this league alight' is ridiculous, he was 18! Now he's 20 he's goals everywhere! Andrews on a free would be nice but I can't see Blackburn accepting that.

Watching him last Saturday i don't think he's improved much since he joined Millwall. Not a bad midfielder but never going to hold down a regular place in a prem side.

To get Andrews on a free would be a great piece of business in anyone's book. As for Rhodes and Trotter, good luck to them and now let's press on.

Andrews return of five goals already is excellent, and really shows up Leadbitter. If we do manage to sign him on a free that's a good bit of business, although I expect his wages might be the sticking point. My two concerns are that if you take out his goals I am not sure his overall displays have been brilliant, and he is a central midfielder as are Bowyer, Bullard, Leadbitter...and I still think we need a defensive central midfielder!
Surco72 added 09:42 - Nov 4
The main reason Trotter was poor for us is because Keane played him as a defensive holding midfielder alongside the attacking Leadbitter ,completely wrong for his style of play which has now been proved ,shows Keane judgement of players again . Sign up Andrews he has been a very good signing this far and some of his goals crucial.

This would be a steal for us, absolutely fantastic signing if done. And last I checked, Trotter and Rhodes aren't on our squad list.
