Jewell Planning Permanent and Loan Deals in January Saturday, 24th Dec 2011 09:05
Town boss Paul Jewell says he wants to make both permanent and loan signings during the January transfer window and revealed that he has already made a couple of enquiries regarding unnamed targets.
The Blues manager said: “We want to improve the squad. We want to bring in permanent signings if we possibly can and there might be one or two loan signings.
“Whether we can do that in the early part of January or the late part of January once again depends on lots of things — finances, clubs agreeing a fee, agents agreeing players’ terms.
“I’m not sat here thinking we’re OK, we want to improve the squad. We know that for the long-term if we want to move forward we’ve got to bring in more players.”
Like many managers, Jewell isn’t a particular fan of the window: “The January window, like the August window, drives you mad. All of a sudden people will ring out of the blue and a deal gets done which you didn’t see coming.
“When we make enquiries, and we have made a couple of enquiries, what happens is that the agent gets to find out and touts the player round, that’s the way it works.”
The Blues boss, who has ruled out a renewed move for Doncaster’s Billy Sharp but will be trying to secure Danny Collins and Keith Andrews either on further loans or permanent deals, feels he’s got a decent squad but believes additions are still required: “I think we’ve got good players. I think we need to strengthen in certain areas of the squad, every manager will say that.
“There might be some people who might leave, there will be people who come in, that’s football. It evolves, nothing’s ever permanent, it’s always on the move.
“I don’t really like to make predictions, we might not sell a player, we might not buy a player, but we’re certainly looking to bring in some players in the January window.”
Jewell has previously said that he’ll be looking for “young, hungry players” in January to augment the more experienced signings he made in the summer.
The Town manager and his squad are training on Christmas Day morning before travelling to the Midlands for the Boxing Day game at Leicester in the evening.
He admits the festive period can be quite hard for people in football: “It can be a tough time. I don’t see my family, the staff don’t see their families. I guess the only people who are happy are our wives!”

Think we should get cox & mcauley on loan from west brom. cox can also play attacking midfield role if we go 4-5-1. Get rid of priskin leadbitter kennedy ellington free up some wages a rb & andrews as captain & we shoot up d table. sonks & mcauley cbs should be good pairing.

Youth, desire, speed, strength and maybe were get somewhere. I hope we don't sign 1 big name. Just 6 young up and comers. They won't cost alot in comparison

Trouble is he will buy up and coming youngsters, they will fail to impress instantly and they will go down as 'terrible signings' just like with JET. PJ can't win.

Garv - but he will 'always win' in the eyes of people like you - won't he ?. 'Buy up and coming youngsters' - ????? - can only assume you've had too much already !!!!!!. A statement like that has to be taken as a joke - Cresswell exception of course, before you point that out. Just acknowledge the mess it ALL is.

Well said h32 the last 2 managers have been a joke one was signed to promote Marcus Evans the company nothing to do with ITFC this one was a cheap signing no one else wanted just ask Derby and Sheff W supporters he has signed 14 players including Drury pushed out on loan to get experience I expect he is only 27 Loans Wabara poor bloke never gets a game lets Norris & Mcauley go for nothing and Fulop now 16 other players can walk away offers a promising young player £200 a week no wonderer he walked away and dont forget the way he treated Colin Healey Oh yes he walked away for nothing. And people reckon hes a good manager Its the worst ITFC set up of all time or at least since 1959 when I first went to watch them. People say he is a good manager

Prehap PJ can manage poor sides and build them up but I don,t think he has a clue with clubs who have a history and that history doe,s not mean doing away with youth or signing over aged players who are just looking for an easy time and no one else wants i cant see anything to balance it with please someone tell me what he has achieved with the exception of Arron Cresswell wasted so much money and time. The only person worse than him is the incredible Mr Clegg

Listen all you humbugs its xmas , cut out the whinging, you know you lot who do nothing but moan should think on this, Evans hasnt made his fortune by being a loser has he? and common sense tells me he isnt going to start now. he is not a football man, but i am sure he will learn and WILL do what it takes for us to be up we feel we belong..... Really need a rb, cb, cm and winger. Also now we're not in contention for billy sharp anymore I wouldn't mind a bid for kris Boyd, recently a free agent!
Garv added 01:32 - Dec 25
No he won't always win with me. I've criticised him this season but I'd rather look at what he's done good which you refuse to do. We need to stop saying Jewell deserves to be sacked and think 'will it benefit ITFC if he is sacked?' My view, NO.

Strengthen the squad? We need 5 or 6 players! GK, RB, x 2 CB, ST and a DM... Sigh...
