Middlesbrough Renew Scotland Interest
Middlesbrough Renew Scotland Interest
Sunday, 8th Jan 2012 10:24

Tony Mowbray and Middlesbrough have renewed their interest in Town striker Jason Scotland, according to a tabloid report this morning. The 32-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season but has a clause in his deal which if triggered will see the Trinidadian automatically receive another year with the Blues.

Boro previously made an approach for the former Swansea and Wigan man in August along with Blackpool.

Today’s report claims Town won’t play Scotland again due to the clause relating to his extra year, however, TWTD understands that he’s still a few matches away from reaching that milestone which is 19 league starts, having so far made 13 in the Championship plus a further four as sub. Last season, Carlos Edwards triggered a similar clause in his contract.

Given Scotland’s age, he’s 33 next month, the Blues would almost certainly consider any offer which came in with Paul Jewell not necessarily seeing the frontman in his longer term plans. If he moves on, Town would certainly look for a replacement striker during the window.

What the Hell is going at this club. We seem to be in a far worse situation then under Roy Keane. Jewell out....

It just gets worse and worse. This guy changes games for us-possibly our most important player.

If we let him go to Boro can we have Mowbray come here as Manager as part of the deal?

He's the only won who's fighting out there. Were going to be in a relegation battle, sort of player we need to hold onto.

Stuff this. I only want to hear one thing, and that is that Jewell and Clegg are OUT!

On a very high wage considering he was signed from a Premier League club, has done ok recently but could relatively easily be replaced, JET seems to be playing well for instance. Hardly a long term option so i'd get rid, we need to build a squad for the long term.

But but, he's one of our best players.

WTF is going on with this club?

Scotland must be on an expensive contract coming from the Premier League and I'd understand Ipswich being reluctant to trigger another year for a player who turns 33 next month. That said, he has been our best striker this season and seems to be working harder than the others, and at least he can hold the ball up. If we do let him go then we must bring in a striker of equal or better quality, preferably ten years younger!

He is the only striker we have who looks like scoring and what a ridiculous clause to have!

Scotland deserves a new contract. This time last year I would have said go. But he has trained hard, put in maximum effort and is loyal to this club, not to mention the fact he scores goals! That's the kind of player we want to keep. This situation is a nightmare. Why oh why is it happening again?

Scotland is the only over 30 in the squad that we NEED to sign up, his effort and commitment levels this season have been second to none and if Jewell decides to sell him then it just proves that he really doesn't have a clue...

If he keeps playing like this ill happily have him for another year! Him and cresswell have been by far our best players and the only ones who look interested!

Footballing wise he should get another year but business wise he will probably go as it doesnt make sense financially and thats the dilemma!

He has been one of the few who has knuckled down and shown any sort of commitment to the cause, and if he does go, I hope it is with the good wishes of most of the people on here.

Sharp is signing for Leicester. Scotland has done ok but come on he's like a bigger Pablo with less skills. Keep Hyam in the side ahead of leadbitter and get Bullard playing like he can. With chopra and Jet and Martin I think we have goals. However, our leaky defence ruins any chance of winning any games.

One of our best players this season, best striker last season. Top scorer last year and now we have to give him away because of this contract.

Joke

Jewell out

The stark reality is one of Roy Keane's signings is far better than the three strikers signed by PJ: JET, Chopra and the utterly hopeless Ellington. We must not blame PJ for the contractual situation - this clearly sits with Mr. Clegg - another major issue at ITFC. If we lose Scotland I hope PJ has a Plan up his sleeve - it's now the 8th January and for months the management have known we need a CB and GK URGENTLY - yet here we are, two games into the window and still no sign. It's abysmal.

wherescounago -- I echo that!
wrightyblue -- Sharp has gone to Leicester (or as good as) that's another one we missed out on. Still if he falls out with the management we could always bid for him again in a year or two.

A year ago most posters here would have driven him up to Boro, but now he is lauded as one of our best players. Has he improved or have those around him been replaced by dross that makes him look better?

Personally, Cresswell excluded I would ship the whole lot of them out and start from scratch.
