No Loans Imminent
No Loans Imminent
Monday, 6th Feb 2012 06:01

Blues boss Paul Jewell said no one was set to join the club at the start of the ‘emergency loan window’ on Wednesday after Saturday's game at Coventry. The Town manager will be looking to add to his central defenders — and perhaps other areas of the squad — with TWTD understanding that former Blue Titus Bramble, currently at Sunderland, is on his list of potential loanees.

Clearly still feeling the cold having watched his side’s dramatic 3-2 victory at the Ricoh Arena, Jewell said there was no news on the signing front and joked that open windows were far from his thoughts: “No, we won’t be opening any windows in this weather!”

The Blues have been linked with Bramble for a couple of weeks but with Sunderland boss Martin O’Neill dismissing reports of a Town approach for the 30-year-old before the January transfer window closed.

However, we understand that there is indeed some interest on the part of the Blues, although no move would appear likely in the short-term, even if O’Neill sanctions one, with Bramble continuing to struggle with an Achilles injury.

That may mean Jewell looks elsewhere to strengthen his backline with the likes of Middlesbrough’s Stephen McManus also linked, while ex-loanee Danny Collins is still at Stoke, a move to Southampton not having gone through before the window closed.

Meanwhile, one of Sunday’s tabloids claims Town and Hull made deadline day moves for Derby’s Paul Green, leading to the Republic of Ireland international being pulled out of the Rams’ midweek fixture at Barnsley.

Earlier in the transfer window, Blues boss Paul Jewell, who signed Green during his spell as manager at Pride Park, confirmed that he had spoken to the former Doncaster man’s agent.

Elsewhere, former Town manager Roy Keane is reportedly set to be the next boss at Millwall.

Good shout Lightningboy, Monk is a class player.
But as you yourself have intimated, the odds of luring such a player is remote.

Much rather look at up and coming players from league 1, or even the SPL, I have a friend who is a Motherwell fan and he keeps telling me that Shaun Hutchinson is a prospect.

Just stick with what we have. We are good enough to stay up and then we can assess in the summer. We are not going to get anything other cast-offs in the loan market.

While I agree With you that piers Morgan is a tool piersmorganisatool, I think Jewell is here to stay. Given the 'I'll get you promoted in a season' claim which Evans bought into, I think he'll adopt a more patient approach with Jewell although he'll have to see a marked improvement in the second half of the season!

Looking at the fixtures, February is critical for Jewell. We put a decent run together now then there's nothing to say that given the games left post-feb we can't finish strongly...but then again, this is the championship and our defensive frailties are still there!

McManas over Bramble all day long.

Maybe Roy Keane's dogs are a key part of the package that interests Millwall. New manager plus crowd control at the same time !

Not Titus Bramble. The guy is a mess at the back, no better than what we have now.

How sad this is what the club has come to Bramble excuse me for not taking it seriously is this the best we can do . The club is in steady decline and the tone has changed on here it's almost as if no one even cares enough any more to be angry. On the up I saw PJ linked with a Leeds move most of us would drive him there

newboy, no only a few would do that at this point in the season with things looking up, most fans are feeling just a litle bit of optimisim. would never expect that of you.

Whats all this Titus knocking about? It seems like some people havn't watched him play for the last 5 years. Titus was one of the best players I've ever seen come through the youth system at Town but his good performances were blighted by silly mistakes. All he ever had to do was cut out the silly mistakes and he would be a top centre half. He did this about 5 years ago and has been a regular, high quality premiership centre half ever since. To those who dont want him, who do you want? Rio Ferdinand - get real! Titus would be an incredible signing.

Thats not optimism its madness 3 wins in a season and a 50% loss rate should never be good enough in anyones book. Bless bluelady are one of PJ's relatives or someone who has not forked out hundreds for season tickets

I'm optimistic Newboy and have been on the back of the Birmingham performance. With the exception of the last 30 mins at Leeds there's been a lot to be optimistic about. If we can put in a decent run between now and the end of the season and sure that defence up a bit then great. It needs a leader though and at 29, 6'2" with 30 international caps it has to be McManus over Bramble.

if Titus comes back that would be really "interesting" as you may have noticed that following his latest court appearance he has been airbrushed out of the matchday programme as a sponsor for the U9's team, which many think is a john terry style 'guility until proven innocent'.

Said in a letter to EADT 2 wks ago after loss to Leeds that if we did not strenghten centre of defence I feared not only for relegation to Div1 but subsequently for the future of the club should this happen;as Mr Evans owns through the club the prime building land on the outskirts of town at the training ground.
Since then through injuries and suspension Mr Jewell has stumbled across an energetic midfield resulting in the two consecutive wins;but he must get in a right sided centre back to replace Sonko who continues to make mistakes even if it is Titus who has been playing regularly in the top flight continuosly for ten years since he left us at Newcastle Wigan and Sunderland(until now)

Keano at the Den - i bet Liam Trotter will not be looking forward to that! perhaps we can have him back, very impressive recently, shame he was not given more time by the so-called supporters

Good. PJ said he had learnt from his mistakes and should not have relied on loanees. So, if he now brings in more loanees it will be very disappointing. PJ and Clegg clearly failed to deliver in the last transfer window - spending too much time on three players who were unavailable/on big wages - pointless. However, after this disappointing failure, we should now stick with what we have - rather than bringing in more loanees who don't care / will only be with us for 93 days max. We need stability in the playing squad - not be back at square one in the Summer. We may as well give Smith/Sonko a run of games - afterall PJ has had since April 2011 to sort out the defence and hasn't.

Garv added 16:23 - Feb 6
Jas, not saying I would get any loanees in now, (MAYBE one central defender because if Sonko gets injured Smith and Delaney is a recipe for disaster) but to say he shouldn't have relied on loans is a bit dim don't you think? Without Andrews in particular, and Collins at the back we could easily be bottom of the table.

You can say 'PJ preferred getting loans rather than permanent players' (rubbish) all you want but when financial restrictions stop you from doing this, loans have to be considered. Every team loans players.

s6blue comments, "Just imagine if we could defend ..."
In fact imagination is not required, you just have to look at the Championship table. West Ham are top having scored 46 goals. We have scored 46 goals. The difference is that they have conceded 30, whilst we have let in 57.

@Sindre94 - Bramble a good passer!?! I don't think so, it's the worse part of his game - good tackler tick good in the air tick reads the play ok passing form the defence cross. I watched him when he was with us in the Premiership and saw a few games when he was at Newcastle and you always knew he was going to create good chances for the opposition. Not sure if he's the player we want on loan.
Keane manager at Millwall? lol! A Tiger into the Lions den - he'll sned them down.

Agree with keanish and believe PJ is here to stay.

I have not been his biggest fan but out of no where we have beaten the top team, got 6 points and 8 goals and played some decent football.

Leeds have had 5 managers in 7 years and as people have said before be careful what you wish for.

2 wins doesn't make everything hunky doory but if we carry on as we are, can shore up the defence then Mr jewell will stay and we need to get behind the team.

Biggest thing is though that the players play for him.

If Titus could concentrate for 90 mins he would be worth having. Although he is a local boy I don't think he's the answer. One defender on loan in the Collins mould and take a gamble on a lower league centre half with a view to buying in the summer if he fulfils his promise.

Keane to Millwall - it's a marriage made in heaven. If he perfoms like he did here they will go down and help us in the process

I would be happy for Collins to come back on loan.
PJ should not be judged now until the end of the season.
That is all.

Interesting article-at the bottom it claims they would give us murphy as part of the wickham deal!
Yet he's still on loan this time from Celtic!
