Town to Issue Statement
Town to Issue Statement
Sunday, 12th Feb 2012 21:20

Town will issue a statement regarding the restaged Middlesbrough game on Monday. Yesterday, the club announced that there would be no refunds but that those with matchday tickets for Saturday's abandoned game will be able to purchase seats for the rerun at 50% of the usual price, as per Football League regulations.

A Town spokesman told TWTD: “As chief executive Simon Clegg indicated yesterday, purchasing tickets for the rearranged game at 50% follows Football League regulations but the club will be issuing a statement tomorrow after we have looked further into the matter.”

We understand Clegg is set to meet with ticket office manager John Ford and club secretary Sally Webb and will also liaise with the Supporters Club and Middlesbrough.

Subsequent to the above, Clegg has been quoted on the club site: "[The 50% discount] falls in line with Football League regulations but we will be taking a broader look at the whole matter tomorrow [Monday], as we always planned to.

"Obviously we understand the fans' frustrations but a lot of people worked very hard to ensure the game went ahead. Our groundstaff worked through the night from Wednesday onwards and could not have done anymore.

"I'll be speaking to Middlesbrough tomorrow and we will issue a statement on the website to confirm all details regarding Saturday's game and the rearranged fixture."

We have some right to@@er as fans never shut up knocking the club. Wait for a statement from the club before having a go or just bu@@er off and watch Norwich as they seem to be perfect to those that comment on here

Just to point out that small print o the back of a ticket does not constitute a contract. You've already bought it by then. You need to be made aware of these before he transaction.

Just to point out Football League Regulations also state that it should be made clear on a club's customer charter what the ticketing policy is on 'replay' costs after abandoment. Actually no one is sure what's going on because the club do not have a clear policy - instead a vague reference on Football League regulations which are not explicit themselves when it comes to the season proper. So how the club hide behind one regulation when another is being ignored?

'The only reason they're doing something about it is BECAUSE people kicked up a fuss, so tbh I hope they don't shut up.'

Erm no, the club always were going to make further comment on it today.

I DEMAND my money back for the petrol in my car and the burgers that Clegg MADE me eat............otherwise I'm going to squeem and squeem until I'm sick. Simon Clegg controls the weather (with Marcus Evans pulling his strings) and they made it cold just to annoy us...........and make us throw pathetic tantrums.........and Sonko break his rib..............IT'S ALL SO UNFAIR!!!!!

Mr Clegg, some advice, think before you open your mouth, you issued the wrong statement, too soon, and without any thought to the repercussions, particularly in view of the fact you have now caused another split between supporters, those same supporters that fill the PR coffers week in week out, WAKE UP OR SHIP OUT!!!!

God knows how football was played in the 70's and 80's. Cold weather is not a new phenomenon!!

The ref has to take the blame if the pitch was no different at 2pm compared to 3.37.

The game should have been completed- that is just common sense- a perfectly flat pitch covered in grass with a little hard bit down one side- and we call it off- Good God.
People who bought tickets should be allowed into the second match for free- it is just the decent thing to do. Good business sense is to look after your customers- sometimes you have to take a hit. Prices for the second match should be reduced to encourage even more fans to attend and cover the costs of staging the game.
Fans complaining about petrol costs should understand that these things happen and be quiet- I have now driven 2 x 440 mile round journeys in 14 months to the Watford and Boro games
Clegg should not have gone on radio and caused all this confusion- I listened to his interview and it was unclear.

How good is Jet at the moment?

Perhaps those with a better memory than me, could remind us what happened after the abandoned game at Maine Road. I couldn't go when the game was rearranged, but I certainly don't recall receiving any compensation for the cost of tickets, travel etc for the abandoned game.

I really do not understand why so many posters expect the club to offer a ful refund. When the season before last, Good Friday meeting at Foxhall was abandoned just before the halfway mark, nobody (bar a few chanchers) thought they deserved a refund. It's the risk you take when you pay for admission.

Most of the comments just reflect the sad nature of the society in which we live....a bunch of parasites demanding something for nothing.

50%!! thats awful, for a game that should never have been started in the first place. Anyone with half a brain would have thought, its not 100% with a big WARM tent over the pitch, so of course its gonna freeze and get even colder.

Another time they have offered cheap tickets, normally the game's awful but this time there stealing the money, good luck in getting the full 19,000+ for the return.

Technically 37mins is about 41% of the game. So maybe 59% refund would TECHNICALLY be all that should be refunded. However, I do see some points about costs etc. Problem is, if you start refunding for part played games, do you then call for refunds on games that havent provided full entertainment value - i.e you lose. Starts a precidence if you start giving money back. Just saying, I know feelings are getting serious.

Monarch Blue - I am pretty sure that Man City allowed everyone in for free who had a stub from the abandoned game and then reduced the prices for all others. The first attendance was 18000 the second 32000. I went to both games, the schools were on Xmas holiday for the sceond game- great atmosphere.
Town should re-arrange for Easter and do the same as City and market the hell out of the game.

There are no League regualtions. The only League regulation is that Town make their abandonment policy clear to ticket holders. It's entirely up to club.

Can anyone find ITFC policy in the small print or anywhere else?

On a positive note as a ST holder I have finally got something for paying up front for my seat - 37 mins of free football and I won't have to pay more for the re-arranged match. Personally I hope the club stick to what Clegg has said and make people pay to see the match then we will see who are real fans and who are not.
"Where were you when we were SH*T"

Clegg was wrong to state that he was bound by the Football League rules. THe club makes it's own policy on abadonded games. However they do have to make clear their policy to ticket holders.

So where iis your official policy, Clegg? Not breaking League rules are you?

Good post carsey - thata how i see it too.
Hilarious all these so called fans going on and on about being ‘ripped off' and ‘petrol money' — most of you only went because you thought you'd see a win for 20 quid. Where were you all when we lost 2-1 v Watford in December? At home having a moan at the radio, probably.
Part time fans - it was nice to have you along on Saturday, but you really are getting boring…

Bedsitfc! - keeping the fans happy is the right thing to do for ITFC and everyone at the game with a ticket wants what's fair which is a free ticket to the rearranged game!!!

In my case though I'll be in the States do I'll be waiting for this statement with keen interest to see what the club do about individual circumstances.

Its a sad day when holders of Season Tickets start thinking things like they are better than other supporters or they are the only 'real' supporters and that everyone else is beneath them.

On one hand its as if some Season Ticket holders want to see the ground full up and the other its as if they feel more Elite than other supporters.

What do you want?

Some of us season ticket holders think of all fans of ITFC as the same, regardless of how many games they can afford to go and see. We have fans all over the world for goodness sake. How many games do they go to? Does that make them any less important?

Clegg, you haven't done much for fans of this club since your arrival, and the least you can do in these circumstances is honour all tickets for the rerun without charging 50% - don't hide behind the League rules Clegg

BlueVelvet added 12:23 - Feb 13
anyone with a small amount of weather awareness could have told you thatover the course of Sat afternoon that temps would fall - they did Thurs and Fri afternoons and it got to -8C on Sat night befor'warming' up and so the ground was liley to refreeze especially as it didn't have the covers on or warm air over it. Boro were tired and depleted and didn't want to play anyway. Clegg, do the right thing - free tickets for rerun

Well I've been to nearly 4 games this season and had every plan of making it 5 against Cardiff this Saturday. Times are hard, and people need incentive to spend lots of money on football games. The ticket trial was introduced and all of a sudden you get fans through the door. Why should football be so out of reach for fans, especially for a family of 3-5 people, that's about 70 - 80 quid. So to say where were the fans when we were s*it? That wasn't a bad turnout Saturday for a team who's best realistic target is mid table or just above. Not to mention they have only won 2 on the bounce. Offer games at decent prices, you get fans through the door. Simples
