Jewell: Murphy Deal Beyond Town
Jewell: Murphy Deal Beyond Town
Wednesday, 2nd May 2012 13:36

Town boss Paul Jewell says he doesn’t expect Daryl Murphy to be with the Blues for 2012/13. The 29-year-old has been on loan from Celtic this season, his second spell at Portman Road, and Jewell is keen to keep him, but feels the Irish international is out of the club’s price range.

Jewell said: "I don't think Daryl will be back here next year. I spoke to him and his agent a few times and we would have liked to have kept him but he's still got another year left on his contract at Celtic.

"We are grateful to Celtic for letting him come here but I think if we wanted to bring him here next season they would want a fee, and you can understand that. He's on decent wages as well. It's a deal that is out of our price range."

Waterford-born Murphy made 32 starts and two sub appearances during 2011/12, almost all on the left of midfield, and scored four goals.

Wasn't an outstanding player but for a loan player he did put in a good shift so we should thank him for this year but there are still better/younger options for a permanent deal in the summer surely

I would try to do a deal - maybe another loan.
He was the only player we had capable of heading a ball in the right direction.

Chripswich - I wonder where we would have finished up without him to give a balance to the side.
Thanks Daryl, always seemed to put in a creditable display, I think that we will miss his height and link up play.

ME making a big push next season no question!!! in relation to players deals are already underway....dont worry if one or two go and I dont believe its the wage though... more the dynamic of the team needs to change interstingly Ive heard also that Ipswich are looking for a wide man so maybe its already sorted??
Good luck DM I liked you a lot and thought you served the club well..cheers!!!

I thought Murph put in a decent shift this time round, having been a bit ordinary in his Keano stint. Linked up well with Cresswell.

Don't understand the reservations about Boyd, he actually has a real level of ability. We've specialised in very average workaday midfielders for too long and really need someone that can unlock sides.

Anyone at the Palace away match would have seen that, all the possession, but when we got up to the edge of their area Drury and Leadboots were reduced to passing it long from side to side. (That's not to say I don't rate Drury, he's done really well).

Well the players are really being let go...he tells us we'll have to be patient in the transfer market but they're leaving the club in the sheet loads now. Gonna need some replacements. Murphy was ok without being spectacular.
Ideally I'd like to see Wickham (on a long loan) and Rhodes (He'll hand a transfer request in when Huddersfield fail in the play-offs) upfront for us, we know what needs to be done in the defensive area.

Another replacement required before August.

At this rate its going to be just like last year with shed loads of newcomers and the season effectively over before they all settle!

If I had to lean one way I would have kept him but only on our terms. Some people a bit harsh on him not helped by his very laid back body language. I actally think he was fairly quick and beat defenders at ease however he rarely looked urgent to me. His height will be missed but the sitters he missed at Blackpool will not. So much for tweaking the team with 3 or 4 players we now need at least 6.

sounds like we're aimimg at lower mid table for next season. and that will be a success according to jewellio

He will be a big loss. He was our constant first attack from goalkeepers kicks won alot more than he lost. Good player real shame

Football seems to be full of over paid, over rated players . Who are essentially paid to the level of being MILLIONAIRES, for little commitment / loyalty to any particular club these days. Sad state if affairs IMO. The only mugs are the fans......

shame, despite a poor goalscoring record in his second loan spell, he was actually quite impressive at times.
Thanks for everything Daryl, but theres no point braking the bank, there are better players about...

For the fans who say he is not very good or he was a waste of time obviously don't go to many games. His work rate on and off the ball is excellent. He fitted in very well in the left sided roll pushing on up front as well. We will miss him.
At this moment in time there is no postive news coming from ITFC and this needs to change quickly. Why can't we get good players like Murphy and Coppinger? Jewell sounds like he has ran out of hope and belief that he can get in the right players. There is no mistakes alllowed this summer. Back him Evans or you might as well change.

bluearmy4life - the thing that really concerns me is that Jewell, Evans and the other one, don't seem to be concerned about anything that has / is going on, no positive news to end the season, more youngsters leaving, etc; etc;

Where are the Positives that should be there post last / pre next season ?? - never known such malaise in 48 years as a supporter.

Let's hope for much increased activity at some point VERY SOON.

h32, you said he would be better played in his natural position, but where is that? He's not really a striker, never going to be prolific enough. Martin, Stevenson (hopefully) and probably even JET are better options playing as the 'forward' just off the main striker. I think he played really well at times out on the left, bit of an unsung hero, just a shame we can't get him back next season.

buryblue77 - I think he has proved this season that he is a player that can play reasonably well in various positions - he has played well, but out on the left would not be his preferred choice.
Personally, I would play him up front alongside someone like Chopra / Scotland for obvious reasons - but then again I would never play less than two up front at home.
I would think that would be his preferred position if asked.
Not saying much if we cannot afford him - I'll probably be slated for this - but I am genuinely concerned at the state of play with this Club right now.
Nothing much looks at all promising. Name me some Positives ? - Interesting summer ahead !!!!!!!

h32, even from a pro PJ like me, I'm struggling to find them.
I guess playing alongside a target man would utilise his strength and hold up play.

Shame, good player. He's been good in both spells here and will need replacing for next season. Wickham back on loan would be a great replacement but i can't see that happening to be honest. Wickham, Martin, JET behind Chopra is mouthwatering at this level. 4 players who should (for variuos reasons) be even better next season than they were this year. Just need a keeper, a leader of a centre back and a ball winner in the middle. Maybe a right back too. 3/4 players short in my opinion, goalkeeper being the priority.

I'm concerned also if Murphy is out of our price range I have to say, especially considering what he's contributed to the team this season.

No, not a surprise.Decent player and except JET on a good day, Murphy is the only player in our forward line capable of winning headers. George Porter from LeytonOrient would be a good replacement for him I think. but he's not the tallest.
