Town in Ellington Exit Talks
Town in Ellington Exit Talks
Tuesday, 8th May 2012 23:30

Town and striker Nathan Ellington’s representatives are understood to be in talks regarding the settlement of the 30-year-old’s Blues contract. Ellington, who played for manager Paul Jewell at Wigan, has made only three starts — just one in the league — and 14 sub appearances without scoring since signing on a free transfer from Watford last summer.

Speaking recently, Jewell, who flew out on holiday earlier today, indicated that he wouldn’t stand in the frontman’s way if he wanted to move on despite having a year left on his contract: “He’s been disappointing Duke, there’s no two ways about it.

“I see him every day in training and I saw a piece where he said he hadn’t had a chance, but what he does in training, or what he doesn’t do, or what other people do in training can highly influence my decision on a Saturday.

“He hasn’t had a run in the team, there’s no doubt about that, but since he left Wigan he hasn’t really had a run in anyone’s team. Maybe he’s one that might have to leave in the summer.”

The Blues boss also said that Jaime Peters might be better off moving on as well after a season in which he featured in only the Carling Cup defeat to Northampton: “I think it’s about time Jaime moved on as well.”

Madine & Ffuller would be fantastic, howver, tThere is no chance of our leadership getting players of thate ability in.

It always amazes me that so many people reckon they know exactly what the players' wages are. Surely this is a confidential matter between the player and the Club, or do they leave their P60s laying around.

'Can't imagine he's coming into PR on a 10k a week contract on the back of three loan contracts either at 29!'
But Keanish, on the back of that stat who would even dream of offering this man a two year contract???
We have got serious problems with our recruitment policy and as has been stated by the club many times, the manager is responsible.
Ellington and PJ should be shipped out sharpish, get a new man in and give him the summer to assess and redress.
Jewell out Now.

Walberswick...... have you thought about being a comic? You clearly know far more about cracking jokes than football! 10Km a week... REALLY? i would guess around 2 - 3K max and worth a punt at that. However i do agree with some that a 1 year deal to see how it panned out would have been better than realising it wasnt working with a further 12 months to go.

When all's said and done, quite hard to see where PJ was coming from on this one. I've got a idea !!! why dont we go into the new season without a Rightsided centre half and a goalie on loan with an return clause in his contract.

Ellington should have had a Bowyer style contract ???? (1yr.)
I think Marcus Evans has paid out enough on buying up failed players and managers contracts ??? I dare not think how much he has paid out....

Guess Ellington was a lot cheaper, but if only Jewell had gone for the other member of this attacking duo instead, look how successful Jason Roberts was this season!! Might allow Ronan Murray to feature more now though!

The question is this. Who decided that getting a load of free signings in was the way to go? I suspect that from somewhere in the top echelons ofour club someone has an idea that a team can be put together on the cheap. Jewell himself said that the emphasis turned to a quick fix, was this down to pressure put on him from above and the assumption that all these players who have made a name for themsleves (at some point in their careers) would come in and do the job.
I really think the management have the wrong idea as to who we need and how much players are worth, whilst I understand we have budget constraints we need ambition and to pay the right players realistic wages, not just getting anybody in just because they're available on a free.

Ellington was on £5000 a week £1000 app total waste of money equal £521000 as he will be paid up his other year add this to Bullard this year £884000 and all the other rubbish Jewell has brought to this club and any one can see why Clegg and Evans are being careful Jewell is a waste of space the only reason he is still at the club is they cannot afford to pay another manager off after the Keane debacle

And how exactly do you know that for certain bluey123? Are you the club accountant? I'd guess not as you can't seem to put a comma or . anywhere in your post.

Stick to playing FM as that's probably where you got your figures from!

To clarify, i, like anyone else have no idea what wages Ellington was on but there's certainly no way it was 10 k a week. To your point SonianBlue, i completely agree. It was a bad PJ signing but, given his experience at Wigan i guess he thought he could get the best out of him. Sadly not!

In retrospect it was a signing that diddnt work out but at the time it looked like great business and lots on here were praising the manager.

Ellington had it all to prove and was at the perfect age (29) to produce the goods and on a free transfer. He excelled at this level earlier in his career and was seen as the perfect partner for Chops.
Also if he bagged 15+ goals on a 1 year contract we would be accusing the club of being short cited/clueless etc.. Cant have it both ways.

It diddnt work out and now the club and the player will move on.

With no money PJ had to scrape round and take what he could. I fear this summer will not be too different, other than the age of the player will be bit lower.

The thing that disappoints me more is the fact that Jewell has gone away on holiday and we are yet to make a signing. Just a thought.

look at Mike Jensen from Brondby IF in Denmark. Hardworking midfielder that also chip in with goals. Why have Town stopped looking abroad ?

ebitfc The other bad signings? There's been a few.
Sonko (admit it, always heart in mouth moments when he was playing)
Ingi.
Bullard, based on this years form.
Bowyer, same as Bullard.
Andrews (probably one of the worst midfielders we've seen at PR, can't pass and was part of the 7 straight defeats team, although admitedly he could score a goal ot two)
Collins, never actually fully trusted him, as above with andrews, part of the early season 'poor form' side. Smith and Delany have done much better.
I feel that PJ has made several mistakes in the transfer market this year but as I am still behind PJ I feel that he can make better choices this summer.

Jewell has gone on holiday at the same time as the majority of players so very few deals will be completed at this time anyway ,but why let that stop people having another dig

He has played under Ipswich boss Paul Jewell at Wigan and Derby.
"I look back on my career and see my best time was under Paul at Wigan. I think he'll get the best out of me," he told BBC Radio Suffolk.
"He knows how I tick, some people don't like to be shouted at or dealt with in front of everybody, he just knows how to deal with me.
"Times when I found things hard at Wigan he'd call me into his room and have a chat and tell me what he thought would help me."
Jewell added: "I know his strengths. He has shown he can score goals at this level and will add to the competition for places.

This signing was a gamble that obviously did not pay off so the club has made the right decision to cut losses and move on. Good to see a lot of deadwood being cleared out as others have already mentioned. Once we clear the decks then let's hope we have some exciting young signings lined up!

Good luck Duke

Although it turned out to be a horrific signing, lets get off Jewells back and acknowledge that he's doing the right thing by amending his mistake and getting rid of him! I'd go for someone like Luke Freeman at Stevenage, seen him a few times this season and looks like the real deal for his age!

Ellington leaving the club is probably not a bad thing but he will point to not having a run in the team. The focus from within the club seems to always be about who will be leaving when we should be getting players in after finishing 15th in the table.
