Clegg Carrying Torch
Clegg Carrying Torch
Thursday, 21st Jun 2012 12:52

Blues chief executive Simon Clegg will be carrying the Olympic torch through Keswick in the Lake District during the 92nd day of its tour of Britain later today. Prior to joining Town in 2009, Clegg, who is an official attaché for the Pacific island of Guam during London 2012, had spent 20 years and 12 summer and winter Games with the British Olympic Association as deputy general secretary and then chief executive.

The Town chief, who led Team GB to 47 medals - 19 gold, 13 silver and 15 bronze — in Beijing as chef de mission four years ago, was involved with the 2012 bid from the start and was amongst those to sign the contract giving the Games to London.

He says he was pleased to be asked to take part in the torch relay: “I’m hugely flattered to have been invited to run with the torch carrying the Olympic flame from its journey from Olympia to London.

“Whilst my focus has for the last three years been on Ipswich Town, I could not pass this opportunity by, having spent so much of my career in the Olympic movement.”

The torch will be in 16 Suffolk towns and villages on July 5th, 6th and 7th, full details here.

Elsewhere, former Blues loanee Keith Andrews is reportedly close to joining Bolton Wanderers having turned down the chance to move to Celtic.

Give the man time , you do not get to or hold the positions he has achieved during his career by being stupid . He by his own admission is still learning about the running of a football club ,its just a shame he doesnt have the wealth of experience to call on that our countless critical fans have , who could do it all so easily and have us top of the premiership and challenging in the champions league within 3 seasons !!

He is a bit accident prone so let's hope he doesn't set fire to himself.

Then again...

Surco72 - well said! If only it was as simple as all the problems being one man's fault. Good job witch burning has been outlawed.

'He by his own admission is still learning about the running of a football club '

So we are a training ground now are we. Let me know when next your medical, dental, legal etc services cock up badly and continously for four years because those you paid to do the work were 'still learning.

And maybe tell us all whether he is taking a 'learning' rate for the job

ps word to stringtheory - witches were not burned they were hanged

Does the flame have to go back to Olympia? If so I nominate........

Maybe he's going to use it to set fire to Portman Road in some kind of insurance job that will give us more cash to buy players, or possibly line ME's pockets...?

If he spent more time with his club rather than this Olympic nonsense maybe we'd have some players by now!

The bloke is a joke.

“It's important, towards us standing on our own two feet, that we optimise future opportunities and minimise risk”

Sorry Simon, run that past me again?

“Optimise future opportunities and minimise risk”

He's out of touch.

HARRY10 - witches were burned as well as hung. My point is that the kind of thinking that begats 'witch hunts' is exactly what Clegg is being subjected to. It's annoys me because it's lazy and wrong.

Surco, the main problem I have with Clegg is that he has no experience of running a club at that level and shouldn't have been given the job in the first place. I thik after 3 years he should have some idea as to what he's doing. This summers transfer activety could be an indication of that.

There are some miserable beggars on here today ... Never mind Clegg out, so called fans out!

Cant the guy get a break for one day. No wonder he gets paid so much, its compensation for putting up with nonsense from some of you lot.

The likes of Surco72 and stringtheory (and a few others) seem to be the only ones who rightly can see any optimism in this story, the rest just want the world to fail so they can say "see, I told you so".

Plums!

Stringtheory - it is not a witchhunt, he has been here four years and we are far worse off than before he joined - we are in a steady decline, he is ultimately responsible that is what his is paid for

and witches were hanged, very, very few were burned - try guessing how many
