Naylor Hangs Up Boots and Returns to Leeds
Naylor Hangs Up Boots and Returns to Leeds
Friday, 13th Jul 2012 10:13

Town Wembley hero Richard Naylor has been appointed to a role with his hometown club Leeds United, where he played for two and a half years after leaving Town in January 2009. The striker-turned-defender has decided to hang up his boots having left Rotherham towards the end of last season.

The 35-year-old will be working alongside the Whites’ U18s boss Neil Redfearn at the Yorkshire club’s academy.

Naylor made 261 Town starts, a club record 118 sub appearances and scored 42 goals - the most famous the second in the 4-2 1999/00 play-off final victory over Barnsley - between 1996 and 2009, having come through the Blues' youth system.

Thanks for the playoff final clip.itfc1981. Bam Bam, Stewart, Reuser & Mogga all great, but the importance of the delivery from Jamie Clapham's crosses to that team shouldn't be forgotten. Similarly Cresswell set up a number of goals last season with excellent balls into the box, that's why we still need a good in the air type centre forward, to be added to the squad, who will take advantage of that quality. Maybe Davies could be that player, although I had hoped Madine would be the man prior to Wednesday getting promoted.

Just looked at the Bolton game, what a side we had, quality all the way through.
Even all these years, watching that 24 minutes brought goose bumps all over my body, what a side!
Oh, legend that is Richard Naylor, hard as nails if not harder!

Good luck for the future Bam Bam, you were one of the few players in recent times to know what loyalty is, the service you gave us will never be forgotten!

As many will say, thanks for the memories!

Thought he was at Doncaster (where I live!)... unless he popped over to Rotherham and I missed it? Anyway as other posters have said, a great player in his day.. I wouldn't mess with him!!

He scored the only goal away at Port Vale on the day I got married and it was his cultured pass out of defence that led to an equalising own goal away at Coventry on the day my daughter was born. A special place in the memory of me & my wife for Naylor.

Best of luck for your future Richard. You will always be remembered fondly here in Ipswich.

379 appearances for Ipswich over 15 years...how far we are from that now.

Peters is our longest serving player, isn't he? 7 years and 99 league appearances. Smith must be second, 5 years and 64 league appearances. It goes to show what a turnover we have had.

Legend:
remember seeing him once away at Swindon where they were all calling him Ginger Tosser. He went on to score a hattrick and went up to their end pointing at his hair and we were all chanting "one Ginger Tosser, theres only one Ginger Tosser" classic. Good on ya Bam Bam best of luck
