No New Injuries Ahead of Trip to Blackpool
No New Injuries Ahead of Trip to Blackpool
Thursday, 23rd Aug 2012 13:28

Town have no new injuries ahead of Saturday’s trip to Championship leaders Blackpool. Summer signing Elliott Hewitt remains the only Blues player on the sidelines at present.

Boss Paul Jewell said: “At the moment, as we sit here on Thursday, we haven’t got any injuries. That’s crucial at the moment, because if we got a couple of injuries it would test our strength in depth.

“That’s why we need to bring some new faces in, not just for competition for places but also if you look at our bench it’s young and inexperienced.”

Hewitt is continuing his rehabilitation after undergoing hip impingement operations while with Macclesfield. The Wales U21 international, who is now running, is due back in September.

The Blues manager was pleased with the performance and victory at Watford but says the focus has now moved on to the trip to Bloomfield Road: “They know that they did well but that that’s finished and we’ve got to kick on now.”

Well said Paul Jewell! Take every game as it comes and it does not come much bigger than Blackpool away these days.

No point resting on our laurels and thinking we are the bees-knees, we must look forward and I am looking forward without th usual trepidation to the game on Saturday.

great chance to show our worth, against the only team with a 100% unbeaten record in the league (don't think I was expecting to see just 1 team with that record after 2 games)

Ince and Phillips (if he hasn't moved to Southampton by Saturday) are two of the best wingers in this division. If we can keep them quiet then we will have a very good chance of taking our points tally to 7. I'm happy with N'Daw coming in, will add the option of power and aerial ability that we lack.

On another note, the job Ian Holloway has done with a club the size of Blackpool is nothing short of sensational. To get them promoted was an amazing achievement, and although they got relegated they became everybody's second team in the Prem due to their amazing entertainment value. I think everybody expected them to capitulate thereafter but Holloway got them to the play off finals last year, and has found gems such Phillips and Ince, and now they lead the charge this year (albeit only 2 games in).

@DanLyles
Some good points made -proves that there are still bargains to be had.

Just to add in another point - tat the start of the season Blackpool got promoted, Holloway made a decision not to pay agent fees. This proves that it is possible - albeit unlikey - that a team can be promoted without dishing out cash to agents.

Great points by MatinLondon and Danlyles, I think Blackpool are a great example of boxing clever in the transfer market, getting a good spirit and having a very good manager in place, I think we arent a million miles off ticking all those boxes.

It can be done on a shoestring, teamspirit (including the fans getting behind them) and going for it. Could well be one of our toughest starts to recent seasons with Blackburn/Watford/Blackpool in 1st week and id we can get 5 points and stay unbeaten out of those games I think we would have had an excellent start to season and somthing to build on.

Things are hopefully coming together.
