Hreidarsson to Offer to Play for Portsmouth for Free
Sunday, 2nd Sep 2012 10:59

Former Blue Hermann Hreidarsson says he intends to offer his services to former club Portsmouth for free in their hour of need. The 38-year-old was released by Coventry at the end of last season.

Hreidarsson said: “I intend to do my coaching badges in England in September and October and then I intend to train with Portsmouth.

“I have decided to give them a hand because the club is on the verge of bankruptcy and in need of a new owner. I am going to turn up and ask if they want me or not.

“I was at the club for five years and I find its current state very sad. I want to train there and give something back. If they see some use in me, then great.

“I am going to take one month at a time because I think the club is only allowed to sign players for no longer than one month at a time.

“There is no doubt in my mind that I don’t expect a penny if I get the chance to play for Portsmouth again. I am in good shape and while that is the case then I intend to play on for a little bit longer.”

Hreidarsson was previously with Pompey between 2007 and 2012, while he was with the Blues from 2000 to 2003.

Good on you Hermann. Couldn't think of many other players who would do this

Still remember the leap into the North Stand!

Top bloke - not sure I can see many of our current lot help us out in the future should the need arise.

That's Hermann - shame he's not still here with that attitude. I'm sure he would be more use to Smith than anything we currently have.

A good Town trivia question: who scored the goal that caused HH to jump into the North Stand?

Marcus added 14:40 - Sep 2
@arc - it was credited to Mark Burchill although HH clearly claimed it on the day.

What a top bloke, utmost to him, not that Pompey deserve such loyalty after the way they have run their club, still having Ben Haim on £30K a week when you were in the mess they were in was a joke.

Coud do worse than offering him a post as defence coach. It would stiffen the current players up.

Nice to see there are some gentlemen who believe in loyalty still left in the game.
Loved watching him play at PR reminded me of Beattie running the left flank.Massive respect Hermann.Portsmouth were and are lucky to have you.

Legend of a Player, Legend of a Man :)

I wonder if Norris will be offering to play for free in Portsmouth's hour of need (smirk)...

Agree with many of the comments above. Hermann was an absolute legend in the time that he was here.

I loved watching him play and he always put in maximum effort.

This is a great gesture from him and probably not one that would be replicated by many footballers.

They don't deserve it though. A very poorly run club who don't deserve to be still operating.
