Redknapp Calls Jewell to Dismiss Town Link
Thursday, 27th Sep 2012 15:13

Town boss Paul Jewell has revealed that Harry Redknapp called him over the weekend to assure him that there was nothing in reports that he had been lined-up to take over at Portman Road.

Speaking to Radio Suffolk, Jewell said: "Harry rang me last Sunday and said there was absolutely no truth in it.

“The only worrying thing was at the end of the conversation he asked me what the best areas to live were!”

The Blues manager added: “The last time I saw Harry, I was with Marcus [Evans] in Portugal [for the Sir Bobby Robson Classic golf tournament].

“I said: 'You didn't have to make the phone call, Harry, because if Marcus was going to make a change, I think he'd tell me first' and it was fine."

Incorrect claims that three bookies had suspended betting regarding Redknapp taking over at Town were the trigger for the weekend speculation that the former Portsmouth and Spurs boss was set to take over at Portman Road.

Cool - that might mean that ME has got Harry lined up to replace Clegg instead...

Not much comfort is it though, he's still a dead man walking, he just knows it won't be Harry.

Not surprised Harry is defo out of our league, 6 months ago he was odds on to be England manager and 3rd in the prem ........ why would he come to Ipswich?

My choice would be Billy Davies loved what he did at Forest on a tight budget good attacking football and honest.

Ill Back the team and to a degree Paul as he is our manager but i dont have faith in him!

Looks like it will be harry. Don't you get it. “The only worrying thing was at the end of the conversation he asked me what the best areas to live were!” That means harry asked him where a good place to live in Suffolk & He is lined up If PJ Losses sat.

If we lose yet again on Saturday then surely there is no way back for Jewell.
Oh and our season will be more or less over! Again.

McCarthy or Davies would be a good one for me.

Agree with Danfootie, think Billy Davies would be achievable and he did good job at Forest and Preston.

If we lose to Barnsley I can't see us beating Brighton or Cardif so it will be time to make a change.

Cant understand why people wouldnt want a man who was favourite for england role 6 months ago. one of the only managers who is a proper football coach aswell as tactician. He had spent a bit of money at portsmouth and tottenham but those clubs made those funds available for him. he would also be able to attract players to the club unlike jewell at the moment, be lucky to sign anyone else before january.

Harry is not cruel enough to taunt PJ

If he made this call he's not coming. and I'd not want him on these terms either. ... Not that he was ever coming

My second choice and this may take abit of stick, but if the board offered him a 4/5 year contract with the young team we have and told us fans this is a long term plan steady progress year on year, Karl Robinson MK Dons maybe with a technical director with Experiance Big Joe or George Burley
