Jewell Made Move for Loan Striker
Thursday, 27th Sep 2012 15:54

Town boss Paul Jewell has revealed that he tried to bring in a loan striker — believed to be QPR’s DJ Campbell - this week as cover for the injured Paul Taylor and Michael Chopra. Taylor is facing at least six weeks out with a cracked foot, while Chopra has a strained thigh.

Jewell said: “We made an enquiry for a striker this week but the player concerned looks as though he is going back to a club where he has played before.

“We haven’t given up hope of getting someone in before the weekend. If we do great, if not then we will just get on with it.”

Having been a youth player with QPR and Aston Villa, much-travelled Campbell, 30, began his senior career in non-league with the likes of Chesham, Stevenage Borough, Billericay Town and Yeading before moving into the Football League with Brentford and then the Premier League with Birmingham.

Since then, the Londoner has represented Leicester, Derby and Blackpool (twice on loan, once permanently), before returning to QPR again last summer for a fee of £1.2 million. Having rarely been involved with Rangers, the former England C international has been tipped for a fourth spell with the Seasiders.

Chopra could be back in contention for Tuesday’s game at Brighton and Hove Albion.

How would he of been a bad signing? He was excellent fpr Blackpool in their first season in the Premier League which is why he moved elsewhere. Hasn't really worked at Qpr, fair enough. Don't tell me this is the only player PJ could try, Luke Moore would be decent on loan as would Josh King from Man Utd.

Would have been a decent signing but never mind there's still plenty of players around who'd be just as good! COYB

Get Boyd with a view to a permanent move, he will play wide left, Murphy or Scotland can take the centre forward slot until Chopra's back, Martin in just behind the striker, JET or Carson on the right.

This is where Paul Jewell lets himself down, why say anything until someone signs.

Why don't we try Walters?

it wasnt a case of him rejecting a move here, just hed already agreed to go elsewhere. was only an enquiry so hadnt talked to the player, but then no1 on here is interested in the facts, just a reason to have a go at ne1 at itfc. and the story does say, it was believed to be d.j. campbell, not that it def was him.do agree with you cornardblue tho, he shouldnt have bothered to say anything. whats the point?

Chopra going to the USA was certainly a Gamble
Looks like it's not Paying Out a lot

And when the Chips are down and on a Losing Streak
he maybe better off playing Russian Roulette

Not sure CAMPBELL is the one to go for
We are already in the SOUP

And we do Need Two Strikers
Crosse and Blackwell
Maybe a better option
:-)

What is this, every time we get an injury we have to run out and immediately sign a loan player? What's the point of having a squad then? Unbelievable.

Why dont we just get Connor Wickham on 3 month loan. For goodness sake Jewell we have 1st refusal on him! plus we are giving him games that he is not getting at Sunderland.

I am so bored about hearing about what ifs and maybes - a good response from players on saturday and at least a close game with a good performance - or it has to be bye bye Mr Jewell - Up until saturday I was well behind him and expected a hard fought win rather than the damp squib that we got - can't even be bothered to say coyb

@Ipswich24 - wages are the barrier. Also the reason we had to sell as we couldn't match what he would get elsewhere.

TrumptonBlue added 17:51 - Sep 27
So Scotland, Murphy, Ellington, Emmanuel-Thomas and Murray aren't sufficient cover? Strewth.

Ipswich24 added 18:01 - Sep 27
Marcus surely we would only have to pay percentage of his wages?
