Edwards Frustrated By Brighton Draw
Saturday, 6th Oct 2012 09:39

Captain Carlos Edwards admits the midweek draw at Brighton was a source of frustration to him and his colleagues, even though he concedes they would have gladly settled for a point beforehand.

Edwards said: “It was one of the better performances of the season thus far but I hope no one thinks we have cracked it in terms of seeing out games when we are under pressure away from home.

“Looking back, we have taken two points from two away games but if we had just dug a bit deeper it could have been six points. Football’s a funny game and we have to make sure we learn from the little things so that we can hopefully see out a game over the whole 90 or 95 minutes.

“I think the guys were a bit more patient and a bit more confident in the way that we played. Obviously, we know from playing against Brighton last season that they are a patient team who like to play from the back.

“Maybe it worked in our favour that the day before the manager did not show us a DVD of them playing!”

Edwards, whose superb cross set up Daryl Murphy to head Town’s first-half opener, added: “It was the sort of display that we always knew we were capable of.

“We are a better team when we counter-attack because we have players with pace and I think we just needed to have that little extra patience in the midfield to cause them a few problems.

“I think we did that and their fans started to get on the Brighton players’ backs when we took the lead. We just need to work that bit harder now to make sure we can keep the lead in games.

“It’s a learning process for everyone. To some extent we were disappointed that we did not see it out and win the game but we were also happy with the point we gained from an away game against a quality team.

“Before the kick-off we would have taken that and we have to look at it as a point gained rather than two lost.”

Let's hope we can turn these good performances into 3 points today. It would be a huge lift going into the international break.

"it's a learning process for everyone"

So what did they learn from last season?? When will they learn that they need to concentrate for 100 minutes, not just the 90.

See out the game tonight and give the supporters a performance they deserve.

Edwards says, and i quote : " if we had just dug a bit deeper, it could have been 6 points". so does that mean they could have tried harder and they didnt dig as deep as they could have done?

I am not a moaner guys and gals, but tired of excuses now, time to produce. Week in week out, there is always an explanation or excuse for a loss of points. We have no divine right to anything on account of our history its about the here and now. What we do deserve however is Progress , doesnt matter imo, how slow but it needs to be there so if we start challenging near the play-offs and get lucky we need to hit the ground running if we were to hit the premiership with any chance of survival. the facts are probably this, no matter what division we are playing next year, half this team wont be here, for whatever reason. this is not progress in my opinion. And it is only my opinion , remember that b4 you all count me down for being negative.

For today though i am going for 3-2 win and will celebrate with a beer in pub this Evening...coyb

Don't worry, Carlos, we're all used to seeing this team squander leads since the start of the Keane era. It says everything that a 1-0 (with the goal scored any earlier than the 89th minute) is a genuine surprise to Town fans these days.

But I come to praise ITFC not bury it. They were good draws gained with fight and some good football. Time to get that first home win on the board tonight if possible, but if not just make yourselves harder to beat and keep that momentum going.

Winning today will turn two good away points into two fantastic away points.
