Jewell Hopeful Higginbotham Will Stay
Wednesday, 17th Oct 2012 11:48

Town boss Paul Jewell says he is hopeful that the Blues can extend defender Danny Higginbotham’s loan beyond its initial first month. As things stand, the 33-year-old’s spell is due to come to an end after Tuesday’s home game against Derby County.

Jewell told the club site: “We are hopeful that we will be able to keep Danny. He’s come here to play football and he’s doing that. He’s enjoying it here and I’ve told him we want him to stay.

“We’re in conversation with Stoke and we will see how things work out, but we are certainly hopeful that he will be remaining with us, ideally for the maximum three months.”

Higginbotham has made three starts and one sub appearance since joining the Blues towards the end of September.

Meanwhile, one of this morning's tabloids claims the Blues are keeping tabs on former midfielder Owen Garvan, who is out of contract at Crystal Palace at the end of the season.

The Eagles are reported to have opened talks with the 24-year-old regarding new terms. The Dubliner left Portman Road for Selhurst Park in the summer of 2010.

Looks like it's all down to hope now. Like the rest of us DH must be bewildered by everything that's gone on in the last couple of weeks. If PJ has a plan it doesn't seem as if it is totally convincing. DH's stint finishes in less than a week and all we're given is 'hope' that he will still be here for the Sheff Wed game. Come on Danny, you need us as much as we need you. Commit now. You know it makes sense.

If Jewell went to Tesco knowing he needed to buy bread, he would buy a banana because it a good deal

And then he'll remember that he doesn't like bananas and promply give it away for nothing.

ITFC94 Could of course get both and make a banana sandwich!
DH looks the business to me,and as he isn't in Stokes squad of 25 could sign him in Jan window.
These recent loan signings look ok to me and if 2 or 3 can be made permanent then could be getting somewhere.
No mention on here about Jewells contract running out at the end of the year, which he alluded to recently;but need decent players whoever is Manager, and Drury and 2 or 3 of youngsters dont look good enough to me.
Have taken Ipswich sticker out of car and replaced it with RNLI one,as after 50years not proud to be a Town supporter at present.

Despite the fact that we're rubbish I'll always be proud to be a Town supporter and would never get rid of my Town car sticker.

I don't have a car or a car sticker but if I did then it would be on for all to see

Danny most important loanee we've got- good if he's here for longer. Especially with Tommy away racking up the air miles.

jewell inthe town, at last/ one other person who wants to talk sense rather than just slag every1 at itfc off for the sake of it. as you say, the garvan story is just tittlle tattle from a national paper. yet many on her immediately on pjs back forwanting another midfielder. yes irishtim, people do have the right to comment n these 2 players but why so many have to put a negative slant on every story they read?

My brother in law text me earlier, he told me P J was seen jogging in Christchurch Park wearing a Derby County strip.

Can't see the Garvan one happening that's well to far ahead at the end of the season . We only plan one month ahead.

Well if he can extend his loan to 3 months or beyond will undoubtedly be the best loanee we've had this season, he not only brings his valuable playing ability but also his verbal knowledge to our players from his days at Stoke. Fingers crossed.

If the club think we will rejoice because we manage to keep a 33 year old for another month their dilusional.

I have read on another site that Season Ticket Holders have written to the club below.

“In January, when our short-term approach was shelved in view of a sustainable long-term goal, I felt the club was beginning to move in the right direction. It wouldn't be easy to switch so quickly to a long-term approach and there would be bumps along the way, but with all the noise coming out of the club, I was really positive for this season and the years ahead. I therefore elected to renew my season ticket in the Sir Bobby Robson Stand on the understanding that I was supporting a club building for the future using a core of hungry young players supplemented by experienced players and the odd loanee.

“In the last three weeks, the loanee count has risen to effectively nine, with the additions of Nigel Reo-Coker and Stephen Henderson. This no way to run a football club, especially one that is embarking on a long-term plan.

“Is it possible for me to cancel my season ticket? I feel as though, with the letter that was sent out around renewal time, the club has totally reneged on their side of the bargain. I signed up for a club with a long-term plan to move the football club on step-by-step — I am now due to be watching a team that can't see past the end of it's own nose and is existing hand-to-mouth from week to week with no thought given to the future. This isn't what I signed up for and what was described at the point of sale.”

I think that sums it up the current situation perfectly.

This club is officially in meltdown.

You know what I don't think that this situation at the moment is good but I I'm not moaning we can turn this around with or without jewell.(would rather be without jewell). And still I don't moan at all I do hate you lot sometimes.

Oscarwhiting

What is your point?

You do not have to comment, you do not even have to read the variety of comments on here.

Most of all, there is nothing to hate on here. We may have our share of weirdos, freaks and loonies with a variety of viewpoints but what is there to hate?

Other, that is, than the desperate mess we find ourselves in. You will find that all the posters on here hate this with a passion that you perhaps don't understand.

Should be no moaning about extending his loan- he has been a good performer, Ideally we have a plan to make him permananet in January but can we afford him? If not we should have another centre back lined up to make permanent in the transfer window.

I liked Garvan, in the right team he can be a real player- in a struggling team he went missing- he may have changed but I suspect not. Would not mind Wright coming back though- at least he is a footballing footballer

All the loans is a reflection on the lack of signings in the summer, there were many on these message boards who were predicting top 6 before a ball was kicked- I think they have shown that they know less than Jewell

Why on earth would we want garvan back? Sure he's got a nice left fot. Against that he can't tackle can't header and is slower than a snail. He would struggle to get into our 9 man midfield anyway.
