Soca Warriors Request Edwards Release
Saturday, 3rd Nov 2012 09:01

Trinidad and Tobago have asked Town to release skipper Carlos Edwards for three Caribbean Football Union Cup qualifiers in November. The Blues are unlikely to allow the 34-year-old old to play in all of the games as two fall outside FIFA’s international window and would mean that Edwards, who has been capped 82 times by his country, scoring four goals, would miss Town’s game at Leicester City on Saturday 17th November.

The Soca Warriors play St Vincent and the Grenadines on Wednesday 14th November, a designated international date, but then take on Surinam on the Friday and Cuba on the Sunday, outside the window. All the matches take place in Bacolet, Tobago.

T&T interim coach Hutson Charles has confirmed that he has made a request to Town, but with the Blues in the position they are in is unlikely to be the winner of this particular club versus country tug of war and have Edwards available for the second two matches.

The top two teams in the four-team group go through to the Caribbean Football Union Cup finals which are being held in Antigua & Barbuda in December.

Let him go and give one of the "young uns" a chance.

Sure someone else could fill his position (standing off his opponent, letting them get their cross in easily, etc)

Let him go. Give Hewitt or Ainsley the rb slot (as proper defenders). Then, when he comes back, let Carlos compete for the RM role.

Edwards has done well this season when i have seen him play , but he is not a natural defender and never will be , if mccarthy is looking for a place to start , then playing 4 defenders at the back would be a very good idea

Since David Wright was released we have played a teenage centre-back (Eastman) and a winger (Edwards) at right-back and we wonder why we concede goals!

Hewitt could be the long-term answer when he is over his injury problems but now might not be the time to throw a youngster in, so a proper right-back has to be one of McCarthy's priorities to bring in along with a tall commanding centre back, and a target man up front.

Would be a good chance for Hewitt and Ainsley to stake a claim. I'd actually like to see a right back in their favourite position.

Yes, he should play international football. It will give an opportunity for a right back - or we move Chambers across, he played there at Forest, and bring Smith back in? Or Hewitt, if fit. Ainsley I'm not convinced with. I saw him play at Burnley for the youngsters last year and I could have played better - not convinced. Chambers or Hewitt for me.

This is not a problem, but an opportunity!

Supporters are convinced that Carlos is not a right back and I cannot understand why he was continually played there

I thought he had been there all season, he's been missing at right-back for ages!

Agreed Carlos shouldn't be employed as a right back in a 4-man defence - he's not a true leader, either, but he does at least try, & has been one of the better players going forward in quite a few games this season, although he also has his fair share of 'mares.

It might sound a bit perverse, but I would leave it up to him to decide whether to join up with T&T - it would be a good test of where his loyalties/ambitions really lie, & I'm sure MM will take this into account when deciding who he wants to keep on board going forward.

I think he has actually been one of our 'better' players this season. Together with the fact that he is the current skipper it would seem daft to let him go if we don't have to

Keane has gone, Priskin has gone, Leadbitter has gone, Jewell has gone, who can we pick on now? Oh I know .. Carlos Edwards!

I've not seen it mentioned anywhere .... is MM keeping him as the captain?

Can't really understand some of the stick Carlos Edwards gets. He's one of (not many of) our players with actual footballing skills, he's fit, and he does put in a reasonable stint. Sure, he looks dodgy occasionally, although often he seems to be able at the last minute to get himself out of a mess of his own making. My main point is that it's not his fault he has been played out of position. I'd still have him on the right wing, at least for the rest of the season, with a new full-back to replace him in defense.

you lot should get off his back, he never asked to be put as right back, hes just following orders, he has the most skilful feet in that squad and has great pace, he is the only one this season to make things happen when hes got forward, no-one else has. People should look at what he has done right instead of picking at what hes done wrong!

Good player ,terrible captain, playing out of his best position. Simple , play smith in goal and loach at rightback. The art of surprise will confuse the oposition , its time for change .

Are some of you lot for real? Carlos has beene one of our most consistent senior pros in the last few years. Turning on individual players is simply moronic.

I have always said he is good going forward and would be better in his right position but what do I know

Didn't Carlos remove himself from international duties whilst Town were in trouble, I'm sure he said that.

what is wrong with u lot? no he isnt a natural RB but who puts him there? THE MANAGER!!!! n ok he does have bad games but who doesnt?! who's been our best player this season so far? i'd say Carlos personally he gives 110% in a position that isnt his, he gets on with it n didnt he take a pay cut? if we had more players like him we wouldnt be at the bottom as mentioned who can we pick on now?
