Martin Set for Exit Claim
Sunday, 4th Nov 2012 11:08

Town will look to sell midfielder Lee Martin in January, according to one of this morning’s tabloids. Contract talks with the 25-year-old, whose current terms are up at the end of the season, have been on hold since August.

However, with new manager Mick McCarthy only having taken over on Thursday, it’s highly unlikely that any decisions have yet been made regarding players' futures.

Even if the Blues and Martin are unable to agree new terms before January, that’s no guarantee that the Ex-Manchester United man will be sold in the next transfer window.

Two years ago, with Town similarly struggling at the wrong end of the Championship , the Blues turned down offers from Crystal Palace for David Norris and Damien Delaney in order to keep them to help in the fight for survival.

Meanwhile, ex-Wolves scouts Dave Bowman and Ian ‘Taff’ Evans are again mentioned in connection with moves to the Blues, as reported after their departure from Molineux on Friday.

Elsewhere, it's reported that Blues owner Marcus Evans consulted with former boss Paul Jewell about his potential successor during the Liverpudlian's time as manager at Portman Road. Jewell, who left Town by mutual consent a week and a half ago, and Evans enjoyed a close relationship during his time with the Blues.

Have a feeling that contract talks were put on hold until they knew if Jewell could sort out the team.
McCarthy said he was to report back in 2 weeks so its down to Martin to prove he is worth a new contract.
Martin is good on his day but so is Jet, have to say in his time here it was only the back end of last season that he showed what he could do.
Jewell wanted Boyd not to say McCarthy wants him plus wages were a problem so can see Boyd dropping his demands now. Boyd too much like Martin blows hot and cold just ask the Posh fans

I like Martin. I think he is our most creative player and normally works his socks off chasing down defenders (which Chopra and JET rarely do). Ideally I'd like to see him (and our other midfielders) score more goals but if we can get him to accept a sensible contract then I'd like to see him stay.

I think this is the right move, he hasn't been performing that well and doesn't look that bothered in any of the matches i've seen him play... having said that, when he does put in 100% he can be a decent player, i'm sure MM will make the right decision

He did well yesterday - closed down and worked much better. So he should. Understandable why a contract for a player hasn't been sorted because of a) our past record on this and b) an outgoing manger. Mick will have a look, but how effective he is in getting service to the strikers and scoring his fare share of goals. He was rubbish at Hull...

Have to say he hasn't contributed that much this season, he works hard at times but to little effect. But as this rumour has come from a tabloid I think I'll dismiss it.

One thing is for certain. If we do sell him, there's no chance we're going to get the 1million or 1.5million we paid for him. How much was it!?

McCarthy needs to get the best out of him in stole that suits him and quickly as he's under performed for years. At only 25 though, I'd like to think its down to management rather than ability as he's got the best years ahead of him which someone else will likely reap the reward for if he goes!!

Decent player on his day, but we shouldn't overpay him. I expect he's on good money, having come from Man Utd, and he is hardly our indispensable player: he's an attacking midfielder who hardly ever scores and rarely sets up a goal. And we have a ready-made replacement in Josh Carson already lined up.

Good player. Has put a shift in every game that I've watched him play in.
I hope he stays and the MM gets the best out of him.

He is a decent player but not a player who should be kept at all costs. Think MM will assess what the squad is like and Clegg will offer Martin an offer according to what MM has indicated to him.

Slightly off-topic but I don't think that he has been worth the 1.7 million price tag, but then again I don't think anyone brought by the club costing over 500k has been worth the expense since ME took control.

Under MM I would like to see the foreign market or lower leagues raided rather than spend big on PL squad players who fail to deliver

Let's leave the problem for MM he knows all the details and will do the right thing for the club/team.

Martin had a good game yesterday. Put in a decent shift, tracked back well and put their defence under pressure, assist for the goal. Who knows what he is capable of under the new Management.

Short memories on here, Martin was one of the few bright spots last year along with Cresswell, unfortunately neither has shone this season yet, can be an effective player if played correctly, hopefully McCarthy will get the best out of him and the rest !!!!

Re- Martin, I think MattinLondon makes a good point: "He is a decent player but not a player who should be kept at all costs." I'm afraid I've never really been convinced. He flatters to deceive. Does some good things, but doesn't actually produce much at the end of it. I'll continue supporting him, however, while he's wearing the shirt.

respect.

Martin is ok without being too special. Should certainly score more than he does! It seems common knowledge he is on a high wage and i think it could be better spent on a replacement. Boyd was a target previously and i'm sure he would be cheaper despite the breakdown when we tried earlier.

Gives 100% every game ?? Watch him when things aren't going his way, head drops and sulks. In his better games he still has no ability to beat his man and has no end product. I think he will be let go in Janruary for little money.

oscarwhiting - Martin played on the right wing yesterday
He set up the goal - not sure if it was an intended pass to DJ or a misplaced shot?
He played ok, but he cut inside all the time rather than take anyone on

let martin go yes he runs about a lot but never has any end product to his game

No great loss if this happens. Flashes of brilliance aren't enough when most of the time his performances are mediocre.

If players won't sign a new contract they should be transfer listed when they go into the last year so the club has a chance to sell them. This happens at all clubs that are properly managed from Peterborough to Arsenal who don't allow agents to hold them to ransom and as a result don't create a debt mountain for the club.

He ha a good spell of about 10 games last season playing behind the main striker. For the rest of his 3 and a half years he has been pants. Not a great Roy Keane signing. He is rubbish as a winger with little end product. I would not trust him to take a penalty.

We will never progress with Martin in the side and we should let him go but I doubt there will be many takers

Daley, I totally agree. The team will change significantly without these four players.
