Murphy: It Would Be Brilliant to Keep DJ Monday, 10th Dec 2012 06:00 Striker Daryl Murphy says it would be brilliant if Town could keep DJ Campbell at Portman Road beyond the end of his loan on January 5th. The QPR man has now scored eight goals in 12 games for the Blues, netting two in Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Millwall in which Murphy, who is on loan from Celtic for the season, scored the other.
Murphy said: “We will have to wait and see what happens, but if there is any chance we can keep him it would be brilliant.
“He is easy to play with, he is busy, quick, sharp and a poacher who will always score goals and it is just a case of me trying to help him out.”
He added: “Football is a simple game. You don’t need to complicate things when we are playing like that. It is the big man and small man up front and you stick with it.”
The Irishman was pleased to be back in the XI having made an impression as a substitute in the previous two games: “I’m glad to get a start which I wasn’t expecting.
“I was expecting to be on the bench and that the gaffer would pick the same side, but I got a chance and he said it was up to me to make an impact, which I feel I have done. Thankfully I have scored and put in a shift.”
Murphy was disappointed not to get a second goal via one route or another: “I knew it was penalty when [Millwall defender Shane Lowry] stuck his hand out but I finished anyway just in case he played on so I was gutted not to score, but at the same time I’m delighted I have won a penalty for the team and we have scored.
“I asked DJ last time to take the penalty but he was not having any of it. When he missed that I thought I might be in with a chance this time but again he was not having it.
“I let him have it and when you score like that and the confidence is so high then you let him, I’m not too bothered.”
Overall, he felt it was an excellent display from the Blues: “It’s a clean sheet, three goals and a decent performance.
“It is up there with the best performances I have been involved in. We kept our shape and worked hard and even though they had a few chances we were absolutely brilliant.
“Everyone was on top of their game. Stephen Henderson is a good keeper, we all knew that but the run we were on, confidence was low and we made it easy for teams to score, so it wasn’t down to him.
“You can see now after winning a few games, the confidence is coming back. We are scoring few goals and Hendo has pulled of four or five good saves.”
The Waterford-born striker was pleased to give supporters something to shout about: “The fans have been brilliant and stuck with us. They have been right to boo us a few times, so they deserved that and I’m delighted we did it for them.”
Meanwhile, Millwall's on-loan West Brom striker Chris Wood celebrated turning 21 on Friday at his New Zealand room-mate Tommy Smith’s house after Saturday’s game.
Smith tweeted the frontman’s whereabouts in case anyone was looking for him: “And for everyone asking where [Chris Wood] is, he is at my house still struggling to get out of my pocket ;-) Love you really mate!”

Its down to Harry Redknapp at QPR. If he wants a goalscorer that is on form to help a struggling team, then he would be very silly not to give DJ his chance. DJ did score alot of goals in PL for Blackpool + he is fully fit and on form. Unfortunately for us I think he may leave in January :( BUT.... Harry is goods friends with Marcus Evans so there is still a small chance!

“And for everyone asking where [Chris Wood] is, he is at my house still struggling to get out of my pocket ;-) Love you really mate!” Fantastic tweet from Tommy, there's a really good feeling following the town now. Particularly if we can carry at least some of this form into the hectic Christmas period we could be finding ourselves climbing that table in double quick time with the games coming thick and fast

I'm gonna have a word with Harry myself tonight. He's normally out on a Monday night near where I live.

I would like to see us keep DJ, though I'd be very surprised if he didn't end up elsewhere. The thing I would hate to see would be if it was in our hands to keep him and we just didn't stump up with the goods to do the deal - being kept at QPR or going to another Premier League club is one thing, but I'd hate for Mick McCarthy to suffer from insufficient backing as far as transfer resources are concerned. On another note, some credit to Daryl Murphy too - I've never been overwhelmed by him in any of the spells he's had with us, but he's played a pretty crucial role in this recent turnaround himself.

Good goalscorer at the moment but the club will just not break the bank to keep him. This will be understandable considering his age etc. Unfortunately he relies quite heavily on pace and every season this is going to get less and less and in the end you end up like Scotland or Ellington. No problem if you could play against Shittu every week! The amount of money offered to QPR wil not tip the balance against them thinking "may as well keep him, nothing to lose in giving him a couple of prem games, even if he eventually leaves for nothing".

JUST PUBLISHED IN FULHAM CHRONICLE: Redknapp offers DJ Campbell QPR lifeline QPR'S manager has left the door open for DJ Campbell to provide the goals he needs — as well as save the club millions in the January transfer window. Harry Redknapp is monitoring the efforts of Campbell on loan to Ipswich, and likes what he is hearing, after the Hammersmith-born player shot to the top of the scorers' lists in a struggling Championship side. The forward who hit 14 Premier League goals for Blackpool in 2010-11 when the Seasiders were in the same dire straits as Rangers are now, is on loan at the Tractor Boys until January. But if Campbell continues to add to the eight goals he has already — Redknapp will send a fast car to get him back to west London. “DJ's out on loan at the moment,” the Rs boss told the Chronicle. “Of course, we'll see how he goes, and if he works hard and continues to score, then you never know.” Read More http://www.fulhamchronicle.co.uk/london-qpr/2012/12/10/redknapp-offers-dj-campbe

Is it me or does Murphy have a lot to say considering he too is a player on loan? but yes would be good to get him but not sure it will happen!

What I like about Murphy's statement is that I believe he see's himself as a permanent Town player, for all intensive purposes thats exactly what he has been over the last few seasons. I also think he's allowed to voice his opinion in this way because he really put in a good shift on Saturday, well impressed with his efforts. COYB

...... DJ would certainly take some replacing here - always looks capable and confident of scoring goals at this level. Murphy/Barnett and DJ, look very capable of achieving much as a partnership - my preference would be slightly in favour of Murphy, but Barnett has his merits. The team looks, and is, so much better balanced with this combination up front, than it would ever have been under Jewell. Can't think of another player (available anyway) that could adequately replace him if he returns to QPR - don't say Chopra please (just not alive, or sharp enough) for sure. Going back to QPR in early Jan just doesn't need thinking about - he is an absolute 'ace' for us right now.

at the end of the day we know loan players have a habit of playing with something to prove.. whether it be to there parent club or loaned club.. In january I am of hope we do not have 1 loanee in our ranks, but should we, I wouldnt be dissapointed if it was DJ Campbell : )
