Town Target Non-League Youngster
Wednesday, 12th Dec 2012 10:26

Town are believed to be closing in on the signing of 19-year-old Chippenham Town defender Tyrone Mings. We understand Mings recently spent time on trial at Playford Road and impressed manager Mick McCarthy.

Bath-born Mings joined the Evostik Southern League club from from Yate Town in September, having previously been with Southampton’s academy and the Bristol Rovers youth set-up. His father Adie was director of football at Chippenham until earlier in the season.

Amongst Mings’s team-mates at Chippenham is current Blues U18s coach Russell Osman’s son Toby, who himself had a trial with the Blues in 2007.

Another really bright young prospect at a similar level is Tom Pett at Wealdstone.

They play in the Isthmian League and he is a skilful left sided attacking player.

Well worth a look.

Horribly unfortunate name but I like the fact that we might be picking up a youngster from such a small club - he must be good. Shows a good scouting network is in place

Bwood - more likely he was recommended to the club by a contact, agent etc.

Like this, wonder if Osman recommended this signing or the 2 new scouts? It's nice to see us benture into non-league for once, there's a lot of undiscovered gems down there.

Certainly nice to hear and while we're looking at prospects perhaps MM should be taking closer look at Nahki Wells who gave Arsenal the runaround last night. Definitely one for the future.

@itfcjc I would agree I have worked alongside him at football training courses, however I'm not sure Ipswich will a) be able to afford him and b) offer him the level of football he deserves.

ITFC1958, why am I getting the feeling your a Budgie Bellend?!

Why TF did MaySixth get a negative for suggesting a player & adding some good supporting evidence?? There definitely are some Budgies amongst the ranks. Phil get rid of this stupid scoring button please & bring back the stats on users.

Speaking of Budgies, it was great to hear they got dumped out of the cup! ;o)

Guys I have been in football all of my life, I have worked alongside this player and yes he is a very good prospect. I have also been an Ipswich fan all of my life. These days however young players want lots of money and I'm not sure we can afford to be handing the sums that they require when they are so young. And also can we put all of our trust on a 19 year olds shoulders, would be good to get in the U21s, but is it worth it?
