Brown Excited to Be Joining Blues
Monday, 25th Feb 2013 12:59

New signing Reece Brown says he’s excited to be joining the Blues on loan from Manchester United until the end of the season, subject to the paperwork being rubber-stamped. The 21-year-old, the brother of ex-England man Wes, will wear the number 21 shirt while at Portman Road.

Speaking in an interview with Ipswich Player Brown, who has previously spent time on loan with Coventry, Oldham and Bradford, said: “This is a big challenge for me and I’m excited to be signing for Ipswich.

"It’s a big club with great facilities and I’m looking forward to meeting all the lads and getting started.

“I’ve played here once before - in an U15 academy showcase game for United - so it’s nice to be back here again and I’m ready to try and prove myself at Ipswich.

“I’m still only 21 and getting experience at a Championship club like Ipswich is good for me and it’s all part of my education.”

He says the move went through very fast: “The deal got done pretty quickly and it was a bit of a whirlwind really.

“I first heard of the interest about two days ago and I didn’t really know too much about it to be honest.

"I just came in from training at United and then I spoke to the gaffer [Sir Alex Ferguson], who told me I was going down to Ipswich for a few months and things went from there really.

“There’s a few of the lads here that I know already. I know David [McGoldrick] from playing with him at Coventry earlier this season and I also know Frank Nouble from playing for England youth with him.

“I obviously know Lee Martin as well, from when he was at United, so it will be good to see a few familiar faces and hopefully that will help me to settle in.”

The Mancunian says he's out to emulate the achievements of older brother Wes, who keeps a close watch on his progress: "My brother keeps an eye on how I'm doing and it's good to know that someone with his experience is looking out for me.

"He's had a great career and he will often ask for the DVDs of my games to see where I went right and wrong in my performances.

"It's great to have him offering bits of advice here and there. People often compare me to my brother but I think we are quite individual and I want to be known for Reece, not Wes."

21?? He's not even all that young. I guess that's what you get though when you sign up as a youngster at a big club.

Maybe I am missing something!!

Unless we plan to play a team made up of defenders to earn a point in each game left or this is with a view to a permanent signing, am really struggling to see why.

load of rubbish - "big club with excellent facilities....." this guy is signed to Manchester United for goodness sake. we are not a big club

Now that rant is over all i will just add is PLEASE do not mess with our existing back four. it is the only section of the team performing well Asda unit

or play 352 for half a game to see how it goes????

or 41321

or 2468 never too late
or some numbers to catch a fish alive

Can you imagine what the reaction would be if he said something like this:

I was gutted when the gaffer [Sir Alex Ferguson] told me I was going to Ipswich for a few months. I love it at Utd and to hear I'm having to go to a tiny little tin pot club like Ipswich is devastating. Their setup is crap, I don't like the manager or Chopra!.

Seriously though. I'm sure most of the moaners on here would moan about the fact they had nothing to moan about - YOU ARE ALL WORSE THAN MY MRS!

For all the positives with MM (and overall he's doing a great job) his recruitment policy is a tad concerning. Defensively we're looking solid now, but aren't creating enough up front. Brown will do little to address that.

Was pulled back from Coventry because they weren't playing him so does that mean Mick has given assurances he will get plenty of action ? Wasn't good enough to get first team football for mid-table Div 1 team so struggling to see why we went for it ? Not being negative just confused

I think it's obvious that MM is going for the 'slow grind' to stay in the championship, a point here and a point there as opposed to trying to put a winning side together this late in the season. We will have to respect his judgement and experience on this, his appointment initially anyway was all about survival this season, so let's stop moaning and support the team. Think it maybe time to shake up the pack anyway as the performances have gone a bit stale. Just my opinion!

Oh and welcome to Ipswich Reece from a true supporter!!!!

IF he was any good Peterborough would have signed him as they are more in need of defenders than we are!

My understanding of this signing is possibly his set piece characteristics; maybe handy at corners (I wish Martin was) Also; imagine if Tommy and/or Chambers got injured- we have been extremely lucky that hasn't happened this season but if it did we'd all be moaning our berries off about being thin in the back. Mick knows what he's doing; Paul Jewell never convinced me he did, give over.

if that's excited there's no hope

RaymondovicBlue - your post made me laugh, most of the others made me cry. FGS! MM has been in this business forever and has a plan. Most of those on here know nothing about this guy, MM's plans for him or the conversations between MM and Sir Alex, but why should that stop them adding their negative post having given the subject a whole 3.5 seconds thought beforehand?

Christ, dont blame our woes on Reece, if we were leaking goals and he came in he would be well recieved like Kisnorbo was, its not his fault we're struggling offensively. Ideally I would like to see a more attacking player come in, Sammy Ameobi has joined Boro' on loan and I thought he may have been an exciting signing but It doesn't mean I'm not going to welcome someone else, especially when I haven't even seen him play. Besides sometimes defensive midfielders can have an eye for goal and can get into the box aswell as do the dirty worklike Schneiderlin does for Southampton for example. Unfortunately we've got two holding players who sit and fail to have a creative side. Hope you can make an impact Reece.

His profile states "Reece Brown is a tall and very powerful central defender, who can also play at full-back and in midfield."

Im seriously starting to doubt this website. I keep thinking its populated by scum fans and AB-ITFC fans. Some of the comments about signing defenders and not attackers border on the ridiculous!! We brought in Nouble, McGoldrick and McLean in the space of a few days only a few weeks ago. Whatever you choose to think about these players you cannot say MM didnt address the attacking situation.
Give it a bloody rest you moaners. Your bad attitudes are contagious and will not help in a "backs-to-the-wall" scrap to stay up.
