Tabb Joins Town
Thursday, 7th Mar 2013 17:57

Reading have confirmed that midfielder Jay Tabb is to join the Blues on an initial one-month loan. News of Town’s interest in the 29-year-old former Ireland U21 international first broke yesterday.

The paperwork on the deal is expected to be completed on Friday with Tabb available for Saturday's trip to Peterborough.

Tabb is out of contract at the Madejski Stadium at the end of the season and has been told he will not be offered new terms.

The 5ft 7in tall Tooting-born midfielder hasn’t featured in the Premier League since December and was previously been mentioned in connection with a move to Blackburn.

The loan is understood to be with an eye on a full-time switch in the close season. The Blues recently signed Manchester United’s Reece Brown, who is also out of contract in the summer, on a similar basis.

Quite happy with this loan. He'll definitely add an extra element to our midfield that we seem to be lacking (an attacking playmaker). Hope he does well enough to get offered a contract.

He sounds quite versatile, it says on Wiki "He is primarily a central midfielder but has also played as full back, on both wings and as centre forward." No goals in 89 games for Reading though.

Interesting piece here: http://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/football/readingfc/s/2123718_old_school_tabb_s

Sounds encouraging, but he may not be the creative spark we're looking for - "Tabb's qualities of winning the ball back, playing it simple and relieving pressure is what makes him the player that he is."

@oscarwhiting Why was Lee Martin sent off? Because he lashed out and elbowed a player, 100% deserved it.

What I like about MM is he loses Martin for three games and then bang! Straight away a replacement is in. We still have too many loans though. Will be interesting to see who misses out!

Daft decision , keep a settled team as much as poss , not the time to be trialling new players imo

I see Jay Tabb doesnt score many goals. So based on previous form by some Town fans , we should by rights be booing this player for lacking end product??

"Welcome" Jay - Knock 'em dead mate !

He is not a playmaker - anybody that watched him for Coventry and even Reading could tell you that, but a good engine and as said a box to box player and likes to put his foot in - but please don't say he's a replacement for Martin as that is false!

The sort of midfielder that can make things happen going forward..hope he can weigh in with a few goals too.
