Swap Deal Complete
Monday, 8th Jul 2013 15:13

Town and Bristol City have completed the deal which sees Jay Emmanuel-Thomas move to Ashton Gate and winger Paul Anderson join the Blues. Both players have signed two-year contracts with their new clubs.

Anderson started his career as a youth player with West Brom, before moving on to Hull City and then Liverpool in November 2005.

The 24-year-old spent time on loan at Swansea and Nottingham Forest — when he was linked with a move to the Blues - while with the Reds, before making the switch to the City Ground permanent in the summer of 2009 for £250,000.

The 5ft 9in tall former England U19 international moved on to Bristol City last summer, signing a two-year deal. He made 19 starts and 11 sub appearances for the Robins during their 2012/13 relegation campaign, scoring three goals.

The clubs are understood to have thrashed out a deal over the weekend which will see Town settle the remaining year on Emmanuel-Thomas’s contract.

The Blues are said to have been looking for a player plus cash arrangement — having paid in excess of £1 million for Emmanuel-Thomas when he signed from Arsenal — but have had to settle for just the player swap.

The 22-year-old midfielder played for Robins boss Sean O'Driscoll on loan at Doncaster and was initially targeted as a loan signing back in January.

Londoner Emmanuel-Thomas joined the Blues from the Gunners in July 2011 and made 43 starts and 32 sub appearances, scoring nine goals.

Never seen Anderson play but he looks a good prospect. As for JET, I still think he is a brilliant player with plenty of potential. Honestly, I am sad to see him go, but he has now gone and we can look forward to a GOOD season under MM and TC

Although sad to see JET go - a man who showed glimpses of his potential at ITFC but never fully delivered - I welcome Paul Anderson and look forward to exciting wing play, something we have been short on for a few seasons.

A deal which seems to be sensible for every party.

the remainder of JET's wages that we would've had to pay anyway vs what the potential fee for Anderson would've been = good deal.

Any news on the length of contracts? especially JET's, it'll be interesting to see how long he's going to be committing himself to lower league wages for.

So goodbye JET and thanks for the glimpses - maybe that's why Arsenal let you go, too many glimpses and not enough consistency. I hope you find the latter.

Don't know anything about Anderson but would assume that MM & TC talked to skuse so expect him to be decent, and better than Martin/JET.

For all of you guys moaning about JET's talent, here's a simple business talent assessment matrix that should help you realize what is talent and why it's overrated - to be considered talented you should be in the green fields ;)

Good luck to both - it seems that MM is looking for players who are going to get 7/10 every game rather than 9/10 for a game and then 3/10 for the next three. In a 46 game Championship season you can't disagree with that, as it will get you to the play-offs or higher and whichever way you look at it, JET had his chances and didn't take them, at Town, Cardiff or Arsenal. In Mick we trust.

Don't get me wrong, I quite like JET but I really think his contribution to the team is overrated by many... Anyway, welcome Paul. COYB!

There are two ways of looking at this;
1. We have let a really talented player with lots of potential go.
2. We have sold a player and got one of roughly the same ability but who is on cheaper wages, so that we can bring in more players to improve the squad.
Both reasons will fight any case.

So we've paid ANOTHER player to go away? If only this worked in 'real life' : do a crap job and have money thrown at you to leave.

Did we put a percentage sell on clause? Or did we just rip up a £1.5 million 22 year old's contract?

Not a bad deal, Bristol City fans seem to think Anderson is quite good so am looking forward to seeing him play. Best of luck to JET at Bristol.

Another tattoo sleeve! Hate those.

Glad to see JET go..... I dont mean that in a bad way, fair play to him for dropping down a division to kick start his career. Good luck to the lad, clearly wasnt working out at PR.

Welcome Anderson.
