Doherty at Town This Weekend
Friday, 19th Jul 2013 21:59

TWTD understands that Waterford United winger Jack Doherty is due at Town over the weekend to finalise the details of his move from the Airtricity First Division side. The 18-year-old impressed Blues boss Mick McCarthy while with the squad at the training camp in Ireland earlier this month.

The clubs are understood to have agreed an initial fee of around £50,000 plus further cash when the Clonmel-born player hits set appearance milestones. The youngster is yet to agree personal terms but they are unlikely to prove a stumbling block.

Speaking last week, Doherty was looking forward to his big move: “It’s what you dream about when you’re younger — to be a professional footballer.

"To go over and then do it is another thing but the hard work starts when you get over there.”

Doherty came through the youth system at Waterford and was promoted to the first team in August 2011. Since then he has established himself as a regular member of the senior squad.

Capped by Ireland Schools, Doherty was called up to an Ireland U19 squad for a training camp in Spain in March.

watched a youtube video and this guy looks fairly promising. squad taking shape nicely, however I still think we may be one striker short. I may also be in the minority and I know he has gone a little stale and has alienated many fan through his antics, but I personally believe Chopra still has plenty to offer in a town shirt, if provided with decent service, which has been sadly lacking during his time at the club!!! he was played as a lone striker under jewell yet still scored 13 goals!!!

Like the sound of this deal. Low risk and worth a punt. Mick's scouts have found gems in the past so i trust their judgement.

Can we get our manager to change his behaviour as I am finding it difficult to live with the new way of getting players in before the end of the transfer window ! It means there will be no panic signings to look forward to and no reason to complain about the players who do not want to come as we are in the outback of England ! This signing of players early to gel will upset a lot of people as they will be unable to complain about anything !

A club that nobody wants to come to? and then suddenly a club that everybody wants to join. I'm sure I speak for most that this Mick fella is doing a grand Job. This board is getting more exciting to read by the day. Just a couple of centre halfs to go and it's job done and we'll be raring to go. Mick and Terry really are making this very easy. :) COYB

Mick has seen something in this lad to want to sign him from the lower leagues but who know he might turn out to be a gem
As we all see when we watch the lower teams in the F A cup early rounds there are some good players out their
If he do sign for us Mick and Terry will bring him through slowly and good luck to the lad and I hope he make it

Compare this to seasons past... my god how long has it been since ive fertile a pee season buzz like this COYB In Mick and Terry! This time last year I felt we could only sign people as a lay resort; this year I almost feel as if we could sign Messi! However to be fair; we're way to big for Messi :D

Think this will be the first transfer fee this window, Mick seems to be building a squad with little or no fuss and with a low budget, well done.

MM clearly knows what he is doing. This time last year we were getting ready for the influx of loanees - and although we will need to sign one or two - it's great that we have competition all over the pitch with permanent players.

This could be another good signing - another player with potential - rather than wasting wages on the likes of Sonko, Bullard and Bowyer: all decent players in their day, but not exactly great moving forward.

meekreech, hopes that one is true although EADT is not the most reliable or ITFC friendly paper.

Strong squad coming together & competition for places which we haven't seen in ages. No more square pegs in round holes, haven't been more excited for a season to start. Good times ahead me thinks!! COYB

Some really positive signings and all without spending a penny yet.

We are really starting to develope not only a strong starting 11 but a strong squad.

Onwards and upwards. I feel we will be pushing for a top 6 finish this season.

"To go over and then do it is another thing but the hard work starts when you get over there.”

this sentence makes no sense, read it again, what on earth is he talking about!?
