McCarthy Wants to Keep Tunnicliffe
Wednesday, 18th Sep 2013 12:49

Boss Mick McCarthy says he’d like to keep on-loan Manchester United midfielder Ryan Tunnicliffe at Portman Road for the whole season. The 20-year-old, who has started the last three games, is currently due to remain with the Blues until January.

McCarthy told BBC Radio Suffolk: "Hopefully, if he's playing every week, he'll want to stay. I know he's enjoying it and he looks like he is because he's playing well.

"Tunners is great. I'm really, really delighted with him. I think he's a real talent and we're lucky to have him."

So far, Tunnicliffe, who has two years left on his Old Trafford contract, has made three starts and three sub appearances for the Blues.

Tunners is certainly a great prospect and being at Town for a season must make sense for ManU. I'd like to see him or Wordsworth in the centre of midfield to create the chances for our strikers!

We've looked much better since he's been brought into the team. Out of our midfielders, he's probably looked the most likely to get us a few goals. I'd like to see Jay Tabb come into central midfield for Luke Hyam at Wigan. Carlos Edwards may as well not have turned up last night too, hope he isn't considered as a first team regular this season.

Tunnicliffe is proving to be a bright spark for us so far, and better than I imagined he would be (my ignorance on not knowing much about him previously).

Whilst I agree it would be good and/or better having him in the centre of the park, he does offer cover for Cresswell on that left flank. Cresswell clearly is an attacking full-back so, for example, if Wordsworth was on left midfield would he offer the same level of protection? Probably not. That isn't a dig at him either as I think he is a creative spark we lack at present. Wordsworth in the centre?

Hyam is getting a bit too much stick isn't he? Was only recently the crowd were demanding he was in the side! Short memories...

Bit of a bum that he still has 2 years on his contract :/, unless they will let him go cheap?

What's wrong with Tunnicliffe out wide (in combination with Cresswell) creating chances for our strikers? Why do people have this obsession with playing through the centre?

I think we will end up doing a deal with Man Utd for permanent deal, because talking to a staunch Man Utd fan at work recently , he says Tunnicliffe us unlikely to make their 1st team squad.

Would like to see him central, on a couple of occasions last night space opened up for him to cross with his left foot but didn't seem confident and either turned back into trouble or waited for Cressy to support him.

Quality player though who will do well for us, would like him to stay beyond January.

Really like Tunnicliffe, can carry the ball and has lots of energy.

I think he's best out wide at the moment, he can be a little loose so I think Hyam and Skuse are our strongest central midfield players at the moment.

like someone said he isnt confident on his left t foot. Looks like he fancies himself a bit ( man U reserve= Dogs knackers ) but he played well last night. I dont think he is anywhere near as good as he recons he is or other people on here recon or Mick for that matter

Guthrum is right, I think that Cresswell and Tunni will make a good partnership on the left, especially as MM likes to play narrow wingers. You never know they could be as good as Taricco and Mason who seemed to know exactly what each other was going to do down the left side.

Manningtreeblue99 to be honest I just thought his passing and decision making and passing in the first half was awful, certainly not disputing his work rate

Just one passing was intended in that last comment as I'm sure you'll gather!

Well Rome was,nt built in a day and at least we've got a hard working team now.Which at least knows what it's doing .Yes we need more of this &that but then every team in the world including the so called top teams wants a bit more if anybody's got the odd 100 million to chip in we should be gratefull we have a competitive team thanks to mm & tc and this team will progress & not go backwards (sorry Carlos but you were awful last night) please just remember that young players will have dodgy periods its called getting experience I,m looking forward to a productive season So get off hyams back he's a good kid with a big future and he's ours

Great if he is in for the season, if he keeps improving. Not sure why MM persists with Carlos, he looks like a lost sheep at times, caught in no man's land on many occasions. Certainly should not be Captain, shows no great leadership on the pitch. But hey ho MM should know best.

What's the story behind Taylor, he's had plenty of time to get fit!! Why no time coming on as sub, looked really lively when he played last season before injury.

Havnt seen enough of him to form an opinion as to how good he is or could be but first impressions are he seems an honest hard working lad who is forming a partnership with cresswell. Some important pairings in the side right now. Smith and berra , Hyam and Skuse and if we find someone to play with Mcgoldrick I think we will have a chance this season.

I liked the look of him, energetic, positive, determined. I think he makes some good runs and has a little quality. Not perfect but looks like a partnership with Cresswell could be formed. We'll see on Sunday what that partnership is like away from home but he is in most peoples starting 11.
