McCarthy Linked With Palace
Sunday, 3rd Nov 2013 09:56

Town boss Mick McCarthy is amongst the potential contenders for the vacant manager’s job at Crystal Palace, according a number of this morning’s tabloids. Ian Holloway left the Premier League’s bottom club by mutual consent in late October.

It’s claimed that Cardiff boss Malky Mackay has turned down the job, while former Stoke manager Tony Pulis is believed to be less than keen on the financial package having reportedly held talks.

Wales boss Chris Coleman, a former Palace player, is said to be the current frontrunner, with McCarthy and ex-England U21s boss Stuart Pearce also said to be on Palace’s long list. Former Birmingham and Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish is thought to be interested.

One paper says serial Palace boss Steve Coppell, currently the director of football at Crawley, is wanted for a similar role with the Eagles.

Palace are said to be loath to pay compensation for their new boss, which would rule out McCarthy, who is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2015.

In any case, despite his family home being in South London, it seems unlikely that the Town boss would be interested in moving to a club which looks destined for relegation back to the Championship having been promoted through the play-offs in May.

Meanwhile, the Irish Examiner reports that Martin O’Neill has verbally accepted the Ireland job and will formally put pen to paper on a contract this week. Ex-Town boss Roy Keane will be his number two.

Elsewhere, the Blues are linked with a loan move for Tottenham's England U21 international striker Harry Kane.

The 20-year-old has previously spent time on loan at Leyton Orient, Millwall, Norwich and Leicester and was recently in action at Portman Road in the England U21s' 5-0 victory over Lithuania.

He won't go. Palace are certain for the drop. What a terrible season they are having. Could beat the lowest points record set by Derby I reckon.

he needs to sign a new contract to show his commitment to the club.

Not worried about this at all. The Ireland job was a different matter, but I can't see him leaving us for another league club any time soon.

Over the Ireland Manager's job, the consequences of MM not coming out and saying that he is committed to ITFC is that he will be linked as a 'possible' for other jobs like the Crystal Palace one.

This is not good for morale in our dressing room and one wonders if the consequence is the below par performances since he did not declare himself as 'not interested' in other jobs?

Why, in God's name, did he not come out and say he has a contract with ITFC until 2015?

Why would you not want to manage your country Many millions of fantastic people die representing there country .for far less money than a football manager.is it not an honour any more Sorry but surely this must be top of the tree for me

This is the downside of having a good manager, they always will be linked when other jobs come up. I don't remember it happening many times with our recent managers so perhaps we should be grateful with who we have, rather than wanting change for the sake of it or on the back of a poor performance.

This is really starting to p*** me off now. As soon as the Ireland job gets dropped Mick McCarthy is then linked with another job. Wouldn't suprise me either if when Malky Mackay or Gus Poyet get sacked then Mick will be linked with those as well! All he needs to say is that he doesn't want the job and then all this trouble will be other but instead he doesn't say anything about the job and that makes us feel as if he's going to leave!

he can be such a k-ob for not coming out and saying hes contracted and wants to stay,,plus no plan b or flair so not bothered about him town can do better

This doesn't seem like a job that would appeal to Mick anyway... If I was him I would prefer to potentially lead a Championship team to the play-offs rather than enter an extremely stressful Premier League relegation battle.

I wish tabloid stuff like this wasn't reported on here. It's obviously just lazy journalism and ends up winding people up.

Just as we think things will settle down after the Ireland speculation.....this pops up, however reports in Wales are say the current Wales manager Chris Coleman is very close to joining Palace, so this could be short lived.

Let him go then maybe our style of play will go forward instead of backward at he moment if we concede a goal no plan B . Don't think MM really wants to be here after the talk of the Ireland job not all his fault inherited TOWN with no shape and 10 years of bad management at youth and senior level.

More worried about this job as its in premiership and closer to his home

Bring on our Mr Holloway, he was my first choice from the beginning, at least we would be entertained! (should he ever leave)
Can,t see MM leaving unless a decent prem club comes knocking, Palace would be a pointless move!
Just wish MM had a plan B, every other Champ club has our 442 sussed before kick off, and then change things around at half time to suit and we have no answer!

Not worried by this at all. Although i just want to say MicMac should reinstate Hewitt at RB with Mings covering Cressy's 2 game absense with Taylor replacing Hyam in the middle for the games against Blackpool and Leicester. Really not sure about changing the formation from a 4-4-2 although i feel for Wordsworth not getting much of a look in at the mo :)
