Marriott "Absolutely Loved" Woking Debut
Wednesday, 13th Nov 2013 17:17

Striker Jack Marriott says he “absolutely loved” his match-winning debut for loan club Woking as he scored one, created one and carried off the sponsor’s man of the match award in the Cards' 3-0 victory over Dartford in the Skrill Premier last night.

The 19-year-old, who was making his first start in senior football having made his only Town appearance as a sub at Burnley on the final day of last season, told Get Surrey: “I absolutely loved it, I think the fans were a massive aspect of our performance and the victory, they were different class tonight.”

Of his first senior goal, which put his side in front in the 63rd minute, he said: “What a ball in from [Josh Payne], they are the ones you dream of as a striker.

"Then I saw Scott [Rendell] at the far stick when I was running through on goal and I thought I would slide it across goal and it’s a great finish from him at a tight angle. I’m building a partnership with him and hopefully we can continue that.”

Town top scorer David McGoldrick recently said he believed Marriott is "like a young Michael Owen” an assessment which flatters the first-year pro: “It’s an honour. David’s a top, top bloke and if he compares me to a young Michael Owen I can only take that as a compliment and that’s one of the highest you can get.”

It's great to see him making such a start. Not wanting to compare him to Rhodes but I remember feeling this excited about him when he was down at Brentford on loan. The difference this time around is that MM can be trusted to keep hold of him and develop his potential.

Just seen the Woking highlights. JM took his goal brilliantly & laid on the 2nd with a cross that was impossible to defend. I have to ask, WTF is he doing playing at this level apart from giving him confidence. I doubt anyone apart fro DM could have taken the goal so he should be in the 1st team squad ahead of various others.

Glass half full view: But isn't it nice that we are loaning players out as other clubs want them, rather than loaning players in? This is in just one year. I know results this season have not been spectacular, but I think the club is moving forward much faster off the field.

Hegansheroes - have to agree with you - no logical reason why he couldn't have been introduced gradually here - right where he should be. The lad is good enough, I just hope he doesn't go the way of Rhodes - his current contract is up at the end of this season and people will ALREADY be queuing up for him.

Have to say was pleasantly surprised at the skill factor in the game by both teams.
I think it's a good call to send young players out to the lower league sides, helps to toughen them up a bit and show what could happen if they don't apply them selves.

Jack should come back a better player in thought and deed after this experience.

Excellent debut by Jack, should be a great confidence booster for him and us. Brilliant idea to send out our younger, more promising players to play at a competitive level, all part of the learning curve from which they should come back stronger and more worldy wise

First time I've seen him play, looks a very intelligent player, hopefully he comes back full of confidence.

MM I assumed Sindre - and what he was probbly saying was "Why didn't YOU play me?"

........ if we want to keep him (which we undoubtedly should) - he needs putting on a long term contract NOW.

Waiting any longer could so easily be too late - IF it happens remember you saw it here first !!!

Excellent, well done Jack. Keep it up and maybe you will be in the first team by the end of the year.
