Marriott Nets Two in Woking Comeback
Saturday, 16th Nov 2013 17:02

Striker Jack Marriott netted twice as his loan side Woking came from two goals behind to beat Hyde 3-2 at the Kingfield Stadium this afternoon.

Marriott, who scored one and created one on his debut as the Cards beat Dartford 3-0 on Tuesday, made it 2-1 in the 40th minute then, after ex-Cambridge man Scott Rendell had equalised, added the third on 74.

The 19-year-old was replaced in the 88th minute and as on Tuesday received a standing ovation from the home fans. There's a post-match interview with Marriott on the Woking official website here.

Elsewhere, right-back Elliott Hewitt made his debut for his loan club Gillingham as they beat Sheffield United 2-1 at Bramall Lane and impressed Gills manager Peter Taylor: "Hewitt looks like the real deal."

The 19-year-old played the full 90 minutes and picked up a second-half booking for a foul.

Young left-back David October, 18, played the full 90 minutes as Histon were defeated 3-0 at Guiseley in the FA Trophy third qualifying round.

Meanwhile, academy first-year scholar Jonny Smith is likely to be in action for Northern Ireland’s U17s against Luxembourg in the European Championships mini-tournament they are hosting at Solitude in Belfast this evening (KO 7pm).

Smith came on as a sub in the Northern Irish youngsters’ 1-0 defeat to Latvia in their opening game on Thursday.

Ive seen him play a good number of times. I have to say what stood out is how he shoots with no back lift , gets his shots off quick , nicks space from defenders but above all always makes the keeper work. His shooting accuracy is brilliant , hence the goals to games ratio for the youth sides ,under 21s and now for his loan club. We have a real hot prospect here , i have no doubt. Here is hoping he makes a contribution in our first team on the pitch this season.

Another great performance from the lad. Looked sharp and his pace caused lots of problems. I predict he will keep scoring at this level. He is on fire! Will do loads for his confidence.

Exciting prospect. Had hoped he would have gone out at a higher level but maybe throwing him in the deep end in the championship might come off. Of he's good enough nothing else will matter. We wait and watch......

...... don't know why people are surprised at this, because he is Class in terms of knowing where the net is - equally so I cannot understand why he is not being introduced HERE, and offered another contract - IT NEEDS DOING KNOW. Before it's too late !!!.

Well done Jack - 19 is NOT too young at Championship level, when you have the ability this lad has, he should be HERE.

Dont understand why some people arent keen on this deal. He has now played two games while the first team has been on an international break and scored three goals. This can only help his development surely ?, both in experience and fitness (even at that level).
He will play a few more and come back to us in even better shape in a few weeks, when i would agree that he should be then on the bench regularly and gradually introduced into the side.
blueboy - who has said they are surprised ? no one as far as i can see.

Good comments bluefeast and wokingblue.
Am delighted to see Jack rising to the challange and making the most of his opportunity.
Phil, do you have any video highlights of this game please?

Question for Phil , or anyone else -
I am very keen that we get Marriott signed up asap, however, does it make that much difference financially if he goes out of contract ?
As he is under 24 and a home grown player and we would retain his registration, would it actually lessen the fee we received if he chose to leave at the end of his contract next year ?

Dozzells another sensible post as usual, getting the youngsters out on loan to experience real competitive games is good for all and they will come back hungry! Hewitt had a good game also according to the reports

Dozzells- I might be wrong but I think we have to offer him an improved contract which he has to refuse in order to get compensation when he goes to another club.

Good work Phil. Thanks for keeping us in touch with these lads, how they do is important to us because they are our future and I, for one, hope our very near future. I am really looking to the time when the bulk of our first team consists of people who have come through the Town mill just the way it used to be. TWTD!

He was already too good for this level befor he went , can't honestly see how this is going to improve him as a player , should have been given a sub appearance whiile taylor was away

Hopefully he gets himself a Football League club to go on loan to in January, because that will be what makes him push on. A great talent though, and pleased to see he's tearing it up at that level - but it's what I'd expect of a future first-teamer.

Assume they are or will be soon talking about new terms and I'm sure he'll be happy to stay given the progress he's making here and he's a sensible lad from what I know of him.

If a contract is offered to a player under 24 and it's turned down, as long as it's equal to his current terms compensation is due when they join another club.

Again pleasantly surprised by the skill factor from both sides. After watching the dross of England I know who I would rather pay to see play.

Jack was on the shoulder of the last man every time the ball was near the box, looking for any knock downs or rebounds.
